[Pokémon] The Cosmic Channelers: Psychic types club

Here for the "Wondefull Gifts of Surprises Challenge" and i'm looking to hopefully claim a badge that will make me feel a bit more important on this forum.

Before trading:
Spoiler:

After trading:
Spoiler:

I only got one Psychic type from all the surprise trades. Which is Drowsee (that i highlighted).

Gen 9 has been out for a bit now.

Did you use any of the new Psychic type Pokemon on your team? Did you have any non-Psychic type Pokemon with a Psychic Tera type on your team?

There are currently no Psychic type regional forms. I'm honestly kinda shocked myself. Alola, Galar and even Hisui all had at least one regional form that was a Psychic type!
However, some might yet be introduced via DLC, like with the Galarian Slowpoke line.

Do you think there will be any Psychic type regional forms introduced via DLC?

Also, time to look back on the gen 9 predictions :fufu:

Lol I feel that I'll go horribly wrong with this, but let's try!

Number of new Psychic types (including regional forms): 15
Psychic type regional forms for the following Pokemon: Tauros
Any Psychic type legendaries: hmmm, nope. I think the number of Legendaries will be similar to Swo/Shi and the third legendary won't be a psychic type imo.
Will there be a Psychic type Pseudo: nope.
Will there be a Psychic type Specialist: Yes, indeed. Either gyms or whatever, there's gonna be a psychic specialist imo
Amount of new Psychic type moves: 2. New psychic pokemon signature moves, probably.
Will any Psychic types be included in the new gimmick: Yes. Imo the new gimmick will be similar to dynamax, so it would include every pokemon, so yeah.

What are your predictions, Mr. ReKoil? ^_^

Number of new Psychic types (including regional forms): 12.

Psychic type regional forms for the following Pokemon: Abra line, Hoothoot line, Spinda.
Knowing Game Freak there will be several gen 1 Pokemon getting a regional Form. A regional form for the Abra line that is Psychic/some other type could be nice. Maybe a Psychic/Dark or Psychic/Ghost variation? As for Hoothoot/Noctowl, I've just always wanted them to be part Psychic type =p
Spinda could use some love too, could make a regional form that entrances it's opponents with it's confused staggering or something.

Any Psychic type legendaries: The Violet Box Art legendary looks like it could be Electric/Psychic. Just because it's a lizard doesn't have to mean it's a Dragon type =)
Though that's more of a hope than an actual expectation I guess. That said every generation has had at least one Psychic type legendary, though for gen 6 the only one was a mythical.
So basically yes, I'm expecting at least one legendary Psychic type in gen 9, be it on release or in DLC or a mythical.

Will there be a Psychic type Pseudo: I'd love for it to be the case, but I'm not counting on it.

Will there be a Psychic type Specialist: If they expand on the split gyms between versions thing they had going in SwSh, a Psychic type gym or E4/E4 replacement seems very likely to me.
Even if they don't, it seems likely to me due to there being no real Psychic type specialist in the last two generations (I guess Avery in IoA is sort of a Psychic type specialist... but I consider him more of a nuisance rival of sorts I guess xD)

Amount of new Psychic type moves: 2 or 3.

Will any Psychic types be included in the new gimmick: Yes.
Although I'm hoping for there not to be a gimmick, there probably will be, and there probably will be at least one Psychic type involved if there is a gimmick.[/SPOILER]

Now the info might yet change with DLC, as for example, they gave us Galarian Slowpoke and it's evos through DLC in Sword/Shield.
But atm it is as follows:

Number of new Psychic types (including regional forms):

7: Armarouge, Rabsca, Flittle, Espathra, Veluza, Farigiraf, Scream Tail.
Both of us went with too high a number lol

Psychic type regional forms for the following Pokemon:

None so far =(

Any Psychic type legendaries:

None so far.
Might yet get one via DLC or a mythical, but looks like I'm gonna be wrong =\

Will there be a Psychic type Pseudo:

Nope.
As expected by both lol

Will there be a Psychic type Specialist:

Yep, they gave us a Psychic type Gym Leader, in charge of the '7th' Gym.

Amount of new Psychic type moves:

2: Lumina Crash, Twin Beam.
Both signature moves, Piplup totally called this one!

Will any Psychic types be included in the new gimmick:

Yes, the gimmick is for all types. Piplup is correct again =3
Also as expected the Tera Crown for the Psychic types is an eye =3
An image is in the spoiler below if you haven't seen it yet:

I'll be making weekly prompts again for a while so we can go over the new stuff =3

Paldea has given us a new Psychic type Gym leader, Tulip:

[PokeCommunity.com] The Cosmic Channelers: Psychic types club

Pokemon levels-wise, Tulip would be the 7th Gym Leader. Her team is in spoilers:
Spoiler:

Do you like Tulip?
What did you think of her team?
Would you have given her any different Pokemon?

How do you feel about her gym challenge?

Spoiler:

Do you like Tulip?
Yes, I like her quite much. I mean she's quite forgettable and stuff, but she's really stylish and I like her colours. She's probably my favourite of the new games.

What did you think of her team?
Her team wasn't particularly great, but she was one of the hardest when rematching but that's probably just me and my team which wasn't the greatest counter against psychic types.

Would you have given her any different Pokemon?
Hmmm, well, considering the gimmick and some psychic Pokémon, I would tbh.
I would have given her some Pokémon like Mr.Mime to set the screens and let Gardevoir use Calm Mind. That would have been not a very hard Pokemon to defeat, but still pretty annoying. Idek how many Pokémon I sweeped in gen 9 thanks to calm mind Gardevoir lol. Also some sort of psychic terrain setter.
Then, Florges has 1000 reasons to be in her team, but maybe I would have given the gimmick to Gardevoir. Maybe Aromatisse, if we wanna follow the flower line thing. It would learn Psychic, when Florges can't!

How do you feel about her gym challenge?
I don't really remember, but in general I didn't like any of the ones in this gen. The giant olive was really hard to control, so that's basically the only one I remember and not even positively. So, yeah I am pretty sure I didn't like this one either.

I'm obsessed with Tulip, her and Grusha are my two favourite characters introduced in Scarlet and Violet, not to mention two of my favourite gym leaders overall. I absolutely adore her design, she's so gorgeous and I love that she is a beautician! I thought her profession was incorporated well into her character, and I feel as though she is highly memorable! I would love for nothing more than to be her best friend!

I think her team suits her quite well, I feel as though the Pokémon she utilizes match her aesthetic almost perfectly. I would perhaps give her a Scream Tail, an Espeon, or an Alolan Raichu, if I were to give her an additional Pokémon.

I love Tulip's gym challenge, it's easily my favourite by a landslide, and the only one that I replay on a consistent basis. It's like a fun little minigame and it's just so enjoyable! :)

Scream Tail and Iron Leaves are currently the only Psychic type Paradox Pokemon.

Do you like them?
Are there any other Paradox Pokemon you think could've been part Psychic type?
Would you like to see more Paradox Pokemon in the upcoming DLC's, Psychic type or not?

On Tullip. I haven't played Scarvio yet, remedying that in near future, but I do love her design, so magical, I want to meet her, and see what battling her is like.

Do I like Scream Tail and Iron Leaves?

I like Scream Tail a lot. While the design perhaps can't take the place of a Jigglypuff in terms of charm, it still has a cuteness of it's own, in a more devilish sorta way, and it looks very interesting to use, a mixed wall that is fast. Pimpnite sweeps make me want to try out a physical Scream Tail set with bulk up, drain punch, wish and psychic fangs.

I am okay with Iron Leaves. I am one of the few people who actually likes the way that Iron Leaves looks a bit better than Walking Wake. True, it doesn't change that much visually, it's just got a metallic-looking finish and a robotic gaze, but when you have designs like Virizion or Suicune that are that enchanting to begin with, i personally would rather not mess with them too much. While I don't doubt that Walking Wake is the stronger, i don't think Iron Leaves seems shabby. Something cool that Foofootoo pointed out that interested me is how it could benefit from lots of terrain, grassy or psychic for its stab moves, electric for quark drive.

Are there any other Paradox Pokemon you think could've been part Psychic type?

I think the paradox pokemon generally look like the type that they are supposed to be. Nothing misled into thinking it was a psychic type, and shocked me to learn otherwise, but I would be interested in seeing more psychic Paradox pokemon.

Would I like to see more psychic Paradox Pokemon?

Yup, keep them coming! I think psychic types make sense for future form Paradox pokemon especially because a psychic is someone who can literally see into the future.

Do you like them?
I am not a fan of Scream Tail, while I like quite a lot Iron Leaves. In general, I definitely prefer future paradoxes.

Are there any other Paradox Pokemon you think could've been part Psychic type?
Iron Valiant, maybe. I guess the idea was tu fuse Gardevoir and Gallade though, so I see why they came up with that typing.

Would you like to see more Paradox Pokemon in the upcoming DLC's, Psychic type or not?

I would definitely want to see more Psychic type paradoxes. Not really sure who though, because almost every pokemon can be a nice paradox. I'd like to see psychic with another good typing, so they can make a combo and be very useful in a team.

Gen 9 introduced several new abilities on it's Psychic type Pokemon, some of which are a signature ability; as well as gave a couple abilities to Psychic types that were already around, but not on any Psychic types.

Signature abilities:
-Opportunist (Espathra). "If an opponent's stat is boosted, the Pokémon seizes the opportunity to boost the same stat for itself."
-Armor Tail (Farigiraf). "The mysterious tail covering the Pokémon's head makes opponents unable to use priority moves against the Pokémon or its allies."

New abilities that aren't exclusive to a singular Pokemon:
-Cud Chew (Farigiraf and Paldean Tauros). "When the Pokémon eats a Berry, it will regurgitate that Berry at the end of the next turn and eat it one more time."
-Sharpness (Gallade, Hisuian Samurott, Kleavor, Veluza). "Increases the power of Slicing moves used by this Pokémon by 50%."

In Gallade's case it's received Sharpness as a second possible regular ability. Prior to gen 9 it's only regular ability was Steadfast.

Have you used or seen any of these abilities ingame?

Which of these new abilities do you think is the best or most helpful?

What do you think about Gallade receiving an extra regular ability in Sharpness?

Espathra is the first Psychic type to receive Speed Boost as a possible ability, and Veluza the first Psychic Type to receive Mold Breaker.
Are there any other existing abilities you'd like to see make their way onto a Psychic type Pokemon?

Let's talk PokeDex entries :fufu:

What's your favorite Dex entry from all the Psychic type Pokemon?

Are there any Dex entries that you find interesting?

Are there any Dex entries for Psychic types that you find weird or funny?

Do you prefer more serious Dex entries or quirkier ones?

If you want to look up the Dex entries, bulbapedia is probably better than Serebii as it has all dex entries for a single Pokemon on a single page. If you use the link you can just click on a Pokemon and then on PokeDex Entries under Game Data in the page's table of contents.
You can also use Serebii ofc. You'll just have to click on each generation separately to see that generation's dex entries.

Wait, I am not in the Psychic type club yet ? That is factually wrong, and I thus ask to join!

Iron Leaves looks cool! I have no special interest for Scream Tail though.

Are there any other Paradox Pokemon you think could've been part Psychic type?
I would have preferred Iron Valiant as Psychic / Fighting type!

Would you like to see more Paradox Pokemon in the upcoming DLC's, Psychic type or not?
I would! These pokémon are certainly interesting!

What's your favorite Dex entry from all the Psychic type Pokemon?
Gardevoir! Psychic type only, now, Alakazam!

Are there any Dex entries that you find interesting?
A great number, too many to list them!

Are there any Dex entries for Psychic types that you find weird or funny?
Mew's entry, talking about its hair being only visible through microscope. Good luck finding some then!

Do you prefer more serious Dex entries or quirkier ones?
Quirkier ones!

It is indeed. 😔
You did join, I found your join post and I've quoted it into the spoiler below. I added you to the member list too back then.

I just seem to have persistently forgotten to add you to the ping list for new prompts/topics ever since you joined 😅 😟
I've now added you to the pokelist for the most recent prompt as I tend to just copy paste it from the last one whenever I make a new one xD

Reading the pokedex is one of the most fun parts of the game world-building to me, and I think it's also interesting to see how facts and lore about a pokemon species might vary between games. So I'm glad that this question was asked.

What's your favorite Dex entry from all the Psychic type Pokemon?

I think what the Pokemon Black's dex entry has to say about Sigilyph is cool.

They never vary the route they fly, because their memories of guarding an ancient city remain steadfast.

I like to learn about earlier times in the pokemon world, and it's a nice image that this mystic-looking pokemon was used as the guadian of a city once. I also think it's a neat detail how the role served in the past has affected how they fly today.

Malamar's entry in Pokemon Shield specifically got my attention.

It's said that Malamar's hypnotic powers played a role in certain history-changing events.

Most of it's entries are basically what I would expect it to say, but this one intrigued me, and made me want to know- What events in history it might have been behind. Hmm...

If I can only pick one favorite, it would be Starmie's entry for Emerald. Starmie has a lot of fun entries about how it's central core glows the different colors of the rainbow, and uses the colors to communicate like a mood ring, and there's even an entry about how it sends mysyerious radio signal into the night sky, and might be from another world. But the Emerald entry sounds so beautiful, and like a real myth about the stars that people might believe in.

People in ancient times imagined that STARMIE were transformed from the reflections of stars that twinkled on gentle waves at night.

Are there any Dex entries for Psychic types that you find weird or funny?

I think flittle has a pretty funny one in pokemon Violet.

It spends its time running around wastelands. If anyone steals its beloved berries, it will chase them down and exact its revenge.

It's an amusing image, this tweety bird-like critter in a tutu viciously hunting you down. I can't help but smile, and giggle a little.

Hattrem is another one in Shield.

Using the braids on its head, it pummels foes to get them to quiet down. One blow from those braids would knock out a professional boxer.

Animated hair braids swinging into action is already something surreal, and being mighty enough to beating up a heavyweight with a swing of the hair makes this entry even better.

Do you prefer more serious Dex entries or quirkier ones?

I think I like the serious more, but think both are entertaining.

Sticking with PokeDex entries, the Paradox Pokemon have fairly different from usual Dex entries. Below is Scream Tail's. As for Iron Leaves it hasn't got any at all... though perhaps they are still to come.

Scream Tail

Scarlet - There has been only one reported sighting of this Pokémon. It resembles a mysterious creature depicted in an old expedition journal.
Violet - It resembles a mysterious Pokémon described in a paranormal magazine as a Jigglypuff from one billion years ago.

I thought perhaps it would be fun to try making our own PokeDex entries for them?
For Scream Tail we could try making some dex entries that are more closely to normal dex entries. For Iron Leaves we could make both a more traditional dex entry as well as one more similar to the other Paradox dex entries.

If you were to make a more traditional Dex entry for the Psychic type Paradox Pokemon, what would it be?

Iron Leaves has no Dex entries whatsoever. If you were to make a Paradox Pokemon styled Dex entry for it, what would it be?

Hopped onto Ultra Sun for some wonder trading for the Gift of Surprise 2023 event. Prepared 30 Psychic types:

- 10 level 26 Kadabras. Timid nature with the Magic Guard (hidden) ability. Loaded it with four eggs moves (Encore + elemental punches). 4-5 perfect IVs. Carries a spoon in one hand and a Starf Berry in the other.
- 10 level 1 Musharnas in Dream Balls. Bold nature. 4-5 perfect IVs. Held Lansat Berries.
- 10 level 1 Slowpokes (with King's Rocks) and the Regenerator (hidden) ability. Resides in a Dream Ball. Quiet nature with 3-5 perfect IVs. Knows two egg moves: Belch and Future Sight.

Spoiler:

Result: 1 Psychic type (Ralts).

Other notable things:
- Got an Ice type in this set of trades.
- Saw players from Japan, United States, South Korea, Spain, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Italy, France, Peru, Mexico, and Canada. Caught far fewer Europeans, relative to the Ice trades, because of the time zone difference (probably around midnight for them). Must have gotten the tail end of them last time.
- Special balls: Dream (Gengar), Beast x2 (Gigalith, Froakie), Moon (Goldeen), and Cherish (Keldeo).
- Hidden abilities: Rowlet (Long Reach) and Froakie (Protean)
- Held items: Max Revive (Gigalith) and Altarianite (Keldeo)
- Four Pokemon with 5 perfect IVs (Gengar, Ralts, Froakie, and Rotom)
- ...A 0 IV Keldeo? What?

Ooh, Necrozema!

After finding your fated Legendary, you can additionally choose any 1 (legendary) Psychic type Pokemon of choice as an additional companion !
Legendary is in brackets, because it doesn't have to be a Legendary, but it can be!
Well, what kind of Fire Warrior fighter would I be without my ace, Armarouge!

As for a starting question:
What are your favorite Psychic type Pokemon?

Armarouge, Indeedee, Farigiraf, Scream Tail, Mewtwo, Mew, Delphox, Victini, Solgaleo

A loyal Armarouge at your side is a wise choice indeed! You couldn't ask for a more loyal companion =)

I'm seeing a lot of Psychic type Pokemon that are among my favorites as well, great picks!
