Being a mathematician with PhD, I know that I know basically nothing in almost any topic other than mathematics, including politics or geopolitics or diplomacy or justice or everything else.
Even in mathematics, I would probably err on most subfields other than the few ones I studied ^^"

I've always had a problem motivating myself for things I'm not interested in.
There were subjects in courses in school that just had me 0% interested in them and consequently got 0% effort from me as well =P

Tbf. school doesn't really do a good job when it comes to engaging kids into subjects. Their main focus is to ump knowledge into your head so you can become a proper wage slave. :P

Tbh my main issue with school is that only now I realize I still have no idea what kind of things I like to study and what I'd have loved to do for the rest of my life. If I think that High school required me to stay home studying, I understand that they never really invested in making us find what is right for us. Like, I just wish there was more attention to that.

I think that the goal of school is not to get you interested in anything. For one student who will go far in one subject of school, you will find 100 other students that have no interest in it.
School doesn't try to guide you towards a job, it's supposed to guide you to be a citizen of your country. The job comes from outside of school, what you watch on TV, what you talk about with friends and all.

Education here has been struggling for a good while now due to teacher shortage. It was still manageable when I was in school, but I can't help but wonder what the quality of the kids' education in school is nowadays.

Could be worse though... *looks at Trump wanting to axe the US' Department of Education*

I think that the goal of school is not to get you interested in anything. For one student who will go far in one subject of school, you will find 100 other students that have no interest in it.
School doesn't try to guide you towards a job, it's supposed to guide you to be a citizen of your country. The job comes from outside of school, what you watch on TV, what you talk about with friends and all.

While that may be the general purpose we want to assign them nowadays. The whole concept gets thrown out of the window when your country decides it to be best to assign the school planning to a company. Companies aren't exactly known for their focus on improving society.
