I am not a huge fan of the newer FFs. They just seem more of a graphical spectacle than anything. But that is just what I think.

I actually liked Final Fantasy XIII despite all of its flaws. The characters probably had the most depth out of any Square Enix character, especially near the end when they develop so much over that time. And the battle system is quite possibly my favorite, with V and Tactics following closely behind, despite the Auto-Battle and lack of control for other characters.

It was just poorly executed in many spots.

I loved Final Fantasy XIII's story, but I hated the actual gameplay. For most of the game, I felt like all I was doing was just walking forward and eventually I got really bored and stopped playing. Don't get me wrong - the graphics are beautiful, I loved the characters and even loved the battle system. However, being on the field ruined it a bit for me, especially since you don't get actual free reign until much, much later in the game and I'm a person who likes to explore the world a lot more than I could in this game.

Fair enough. But one of the main things I didn't like, was how long it took to get into the ACTUAL good storyline.
I just got bored and it felt like pulling teeth down those linear levels.

The linearity screwed me over because I have even more trouble with finding my direction in large games now.

However, it should be noted that almost all Final Fantasy games are like this. They're all really linear until you get an airship, go to the Great Plains, WoR, etc then you have quite a few side quests to do. XIII just took it to an extreme by making it look incredibly cramped.

Don't worry, you weren't missing out on much. The storyline could've been so much more, but the ending was just so bad that even the script forgot what was happening in the game. It was cool while it lasted I suppose, but it's annoying to see that XIII-2 will be unrelated to the story in XIII. Motomu Toriyama just sucks at executing game storylines, it's a fact.

That's very true. However, I think the difference between FFXIII and other FF games was that in FFXIII, there was pretty much no interaction with NPCs, can't enter homes, etc. No basic exploration, I guess. It just felt like being in a giant tunnel for the first ten or so chapters of the game.

I didn't think I was missing out on much! My friends said they were getting bored of it at times as well and they love FF! XD

I still think the best game was FF VIII, IMO.

Well, towns wouldn't really work in the game since the l'Cie are constantly targeted and everyone already knows what they are, but I think that was just a bad design idea overall. It's a technically magnificent, but lifeless game. I really liked the art style though, the bizarre science fiction has always been something I adored.

I sincerely hope Tetsuya Nomura wasn't scratching his ass and working with 3D Realms for 7 years, because Versus XIII seems like it could undo all of the mistakes XIII made.

How quickly your credibility went down the drain :[

Final Fantasy XIII was polarizing for most people. Many of the fans felt betrayed but I know a few people who loved XIII despite hating other Final Fantasy games.

Anywho.

The trailer for that FF looks amazing. :0

Uhhhhhhhhh, I am not with it today. Lets try that again without the typo.

I think the best game was FF VII.

YESSS <333 FFVIII is my favourite Final Fantasy game next to FFVII! I really liked the characters (except for Squall and Rinoa funny enough - I found Squall irritatingly emo up to a certain point and then really whiny afterward, and I've just never liked Rinoa), and the story was quite nice as well.

lmfao, saw your typo. XD; Well, I liked FFVII too, haha. Definitely my favourite Final Fantasy game, even now.

I agree with all of that! I think that's what was missing from the game - there was no life.

HAHA! Shame it was a typo! Sorry for getting your hopes up!

I know, I read your post and I was like, "...damn."

I swear I'm the only person who actually liked FFVIII. XD

Indeed, I heard from other people that the camera was wonky but I never saw a problem with it.

I think the best game was Final Fantasy Tactics, but that's my favorite game ever(tied with NieR, which you really should play since it's only $20 these days) so yeah.

I loved Final Fantasy VII as a kid, but I tried coming back to it and it was so horribly boring. I can still appreciate and like the game, but I'll come back to it later when I have 40+ hours to spend on a JRPG.

I enjoyed Final Fantasy VIII myself, but it was too flawed for me to say I loved it. Squall was my most hated protagonist in any Final Fantasy game now, because he was emo but he wasn't emo for a good reason. "Wah, I'm an orphan, wah, life sucks". Even Hope was less annoying than him, and he was forced to travel with the man responsible for the death of his mother.

I've never owned a Sony system past the PS1 so I haven't played any of the newer Final Fantasy games. I did enjoy Tactics, though. Probably my favorite PS1 game.

Also, I don't understand how someone could hate Squall more than Cloud. Cloud didn't even have a personality. And he's bipolar.

Never really played Final Fantasy, I was always more into the sonic the hedgehog games. Though I did play a spinoff of Final fantasy.. Sword of Mana I think it was?

Miss me?
PC died on me for like 20 minutes, but apparently for no one else. And it wasn't my Internet since I was looking at other things.

Strange...

There's really no excuse to not own the PS2. It's $100 for a new PS2 and it has some of the best third party support on the market. The first party support is pretty good too, considering Team ICO and Naughty Dog exist.

Spoiler alerts of course.

I played that as well, it was pretty cool. It wasn't really related to Final Fantasy though. It was a remake of a game labeled Final Fantasy to get more attention, and it never had any Final Fantasy-esque themes.

I didn't have that problem at all :(
