Anyone named Dick should automatically be predestined to be a private dick.Dick Turtledove sounds like an awesome name for a P.I. character.
(I meant Turtledove though.)

You do realize that the Darkness series is just World War II WITH MAGIC, right? Hell, the vast majority of Turtledove's work is just retellings of World War II, either with a single historical variable changed or shoehorned into a different setting entirely.I like Harry Turtledove's The Tale of Krispos series, because I love the Byzantine Empire. I've also been meaning to read his Darkness series. Is that bad?

As for S. M. Stirling, don't get me started on the literary abortion that is the Draka series. Just don't.

There's nothing wrong with that, though, is there? If you like a time period and can play around with it, I say go for it.

Ooh, that...yeah. That doesn't sound fun. XD; Same pretty much happened to me when I got into college, had been a couple of years since I was in school and I just forgot so much math.
Yeees. I once came home with about five books from a secondhand store and only ended up paying about $7 for the entire stack because hardcover books were on sale that day.
Ooh, good on you. :O I did...eh, not so well in my most recent math class, but I can't let any setbacks keep me down for too long. XD;I've done surprising well in the course, considering how much I had forgotten, though. XD;
If you know what to look for, books at garage sales are amazing deals, since they'll all still have their covers, and people take pretty good care of their books considering they probably just let them sit on the shelf all the time. XD;
Listen to him, he knows his stuff.

If you can find a copy of The Iron Dream, I'd say check it out. The Years of Rice and Salt may also be worth a read, though the alt-history may be a bit too soft for your liking. Of course, there's always Full Metal Panic!; only the first three novels have been translated into English, however.

But Alternate History talk in DCC? What can you recommend to me Jack?, I have a bunch of books on the docket.
Why am I reading Time Patrol again? XD
Of course there's nothing wrong with it per se, but it does get a bit tiresome after a while.

Outside of books, don't dwell too much on the sheer historical implausibility of Code Geass; do stick around to watch it turn into an utterly spectacular trainwreck halfway through its second season, though. Since I already mentioned the Full Metal Panic! novels, I might as well mention the anime; The Second Raid has been out on DVD and Blu-Ray for quite some time, but Funimation's rerelease schedule for the first season and Fumoffu is a complete mess. Inglourious Basterds is good for a laugh or two, though the fact that it's a Quentin Tarantino film means that your mileage can and will vary. I seem to recall you saying you were a big fan of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and its expansion; have you played the original Red Alert, by any chance?

Well, that's good to hear.
Oh I've browsed those titles before, not the second one tho. And I am trying to fit in Full Metal Panic in my list of to read manga since there is a Line ATM. But yes, the second one looks very interesting...I'll try to borrow it.
Already finished Code Geass. (Jeez, I'm still looking for the viable back-plot since the compilation is confusing) FMP is on the Docket after Angel Beats! And I am going to finish our DVD of Inglorious Basterds today...slipped my mind.
As for Red Alert, I've played #2 and Yuri's Revenge but not the First one. Although I've looked up the plot. Maybe I'll play it after I get a PC.
Darn you have great memory for remembering my liking for Red Alert. Seems there isn't that many people who know about it around here.

I didn't know you already watched Code Geass. If you're interested in the backstory, the Code Geass Wiki has a timeline gleaned from various sources (light novels, booklets that came with the DVDs, and other obscure and possibly apocryphal things); one look at it, and you'll probably agree that it's best not to dwell on it too much so as not to taint your enjoyment of the series. The second season was a trainwreck no matter how you look at it, though. As for FMP!, the setting may be fantastical, but at least it's more plausible than Code Geass or the Draka; besides, its real strengths lie in other areas.
I was surprised I was able to remember your liking of Red Alert, too. Anyway, EA made the first Red Alert available as freeware a while back, along with Tiberian Dawn and Tiberian Sun. Gameplay-wise, they're quite obviously long in the tooth, but they can be fun if you're willing to be patient with them.
