I prefer hack n slash games.. mainly because they have the most pumping BGM and theres cool action too!
X, Y, X, X, Y, Y, X, Y, X, Y, and you repeat to finish the game.
I'd rather have a strategy game myself.
It's almost as if someone at Alphadream knew exactly what Westerners hated about JRPGs.

Or maybe they just wanted to 1-up Squeenix. o3o

Either way, they've made a trilogy of awesome games.

The only thing I hate about JRPGs these days are that they're trying to be Western. I never actually had a problem with Dragon Quest because they never became influenced too much, but I'm worried about Final Fantasy. Although XIII isn't bad so far, it has a lot of potential that could be used.

Well, the core market for JRPGs is probably bored with the turn-based, random encounters method. (b'-')b

Dragon Quest disagrees with you. It still has staggeringly high sales in Japan(where I can only assume JRPGs are the most popular) and stuck to the turn based combat since the beginning. I can understand random battles much more, but even then, as long as it isn't an absurdly high amount it should be fine.

I found out today at school that most of their computers are infected with the Conficker worm. Yep, that's another reason why their network sucks and those computers are already crappy enough without it. This is gonna be a FUN year because I have two classes in which I have to use the damned things.

What is a JRPG? Japanese RPG? EH? ?0_o?

I hate random encounters and slow battle systems with a passion. I also hate slow grinding, which usually ends up being caused by either the battles being slow or the game sucking.

There are really lame turn-baseds, like Pokemon and the old Final Fantasies. Their battle systems suck and are boring as because they are /slow/ and the random encounters get piss-annoying.

Then there are faster turn-based systems, like Mario and Luigi and Epic Battle Fantasy, where the attacks are flashier, more player input is needed and there aren't random encounters; you can see all the monsters before they attack you.

Finally, there are the awesome non-turn-based battle systems, like TWEWY. These rock. I need moar of these.

Strategy RPGs are fine by me. Turn-based there is preferable, as it gives me time to think. I don't want hard ones, though. D: Grinding sucks.

So, anyone have any of latter ones? Games like Mario and Luigi or TWEWY that they know? What's KH:385/2 like?

Technically, Final Fantasy isn't turn based because it adopted Active Time Battle in Final Fantasy IV~
And personally, most battles are really fast in most Final Fantasy games. Save Final Fantasy 2 and its awfulness, they were never like Dragon Quest where some of the random encounters had a high chance kill you if you ever met them.

KH: 385/2 is pretty boring to be honest. I liked Kingdom Hearts I and II but this was just a stale game. I didn't even finish it, so I guess it could be my fault.

Or what about Paper Mario? :D

I've never really gotten into KH, but I've been a Final Fantasy fan for quite a while. It was just my misfortune to start my FF career with X-2, which is quite honestly an embarrassment to the series. Once I got over that, though, I saw how good they really were. I like JRPGs, though I don't play nearly as many of them as I would like. Pokemon is my staple, and I've been getting at least one game from each sub-generation since I got into them in earnest (ie I have FR, E, D, P, Pt, SS and plan on getting W). The battle system in Pokemon is basic, repetitive and stupid, yes, but I couldn't abandon it if I tried. I'm not an old-school gamer by any definition, but back in the days, that was all it was. Attack, get attacked, attack, get attacked, item, get attacked, attack, something dies. Rinse and repeat. Pokemon is a nice, relaxing game for my brain, because it hardly requires me to actually think. Currently, I'm spamming the E4 on my Platinum to get some more Level 100s for battling friends.

Yeah, go ahead and pull off a good combo in Devil May Cry or something..

I only normally play Pokemon, zelda, animal crossing, FF and kingdom hearts,

I think B&W "3D" aspects are going to be sub par at best I mean how can a HandHeld be 3d I am greatly anticipating the failure of the 3Ds.
As for the current subject I have played a great deal of Final Fantasy games and yes it gets old after awhile boring and repetitive I did like Final Fantasy 12's Battle System even though its easy to trick and exploit it shook up the whole rut they fell in. I never really considered Pokemon a JRPG but I guess it is I've always thought of it as Pokemon. :)

This is a question thats a little off-topic on whatever you guys are talking about right now but...

Can anyone give me a heads up on who some of the better graphics artists are on PC? I'd like to ask some of them for help.

*Reads JRPG discussion*

I think it's good to have a mixture of everything. I like JRPGS that have real time fighting, grids, and all that good stuff, but sometimes you just need a good, hard grindalicious dungeon game to eat up your time.

Labyrinth of Touhou... :D
