5th Gen The Generation Five Speculation Thread

But the first gym needs to be really difficult and Rock at the start is just that.

Two of the three starter types are super effective against Rock. THAT's why it's a common Gym 1. It needs to be easy. Do people even notice that the first gym is always Rock (bar Falkner)? This is another one of those things that I just don't notice and wouldn't complain about. Though there probably would be some subconscious appreciation of a different starter gym.

And I reckon dark will be about the fifth gym, so that it can use Zoa-whatever, the evolved version, instead of the prevolved version. After all, they seem to be prouder of the evolved one, seeing as they showed it off instead of the younger one (like they showed Lucario instead of Riolu last time).

I'm pretty sure that Heart Gold and Soul Silver prove a change to what we consider a normal gym order by having Flying first and including a dark type gym.

That's because it was a remake of Gen 2, so it can't really be counted. They would never have changed the gym types, that would be a bit far.

Well, honestly, we don't know what will happen until more information is released, but I'm hoping they'll just stick with the Rock type gym as the first one.

OK, I see one poster arguing that it's always Rock because it's easy, another arguing it's always Rock because it's hard. Basically, it's always Rock because they aren't daring enough to break with tradition again. More or less any type would react differently to the starter types, it doesn't matter whether it's Rock or Bug or Ice or Steel... it's just that having a Rock-type gym in the same place in every game is boring.

Well some of the possibilities could be ground types, which are weak x1 fire x2 water x2 grass

well i guess its always rock type due to the weakness of rock types to water and grass, and the fire starters of gen 3 and 4 evolve into fire/fight types which is relatively facilitates the gym (poor charmander :P), so i guess thats why, i remember my friend nagging because he just couldn't defeat falkner in heatgold with his chicorita as he was being defeated very easily since every time he inflicts damage the pidgeotto roosts back to full health, so i guess other types might make it hard for some some starters to pass this gym singlehanded...

I wonder, will this next game use 3D models, or stick with the sprites?

3-D Models are consistent with the consoles.

Pokemon has its own sprite style, and are quite good at it...At times.

"image removed"

They may do 3D in the future, but I would be satisfied with them keeping sprites.

I think they'll stick to sprites for the hand-held games. Console games however, much different.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they decided to use 3d models. That would definitely make me think "is the Pokémon?"....but, I personally would prefer the sprites, and I think if they were going to change up the look they'd save it for a game on a new handheld.

I think they can add a Cell Shading graphic. Like Zelda Wind Waker or DBZ Budokai. The graphics are 3D objects with a drawing look. And it's beautiful. I don't think it would be less Pokémon.

The first gym should be Normal, or bug, If there is a dark gym I could see it using both Zorua and Zoroark and maybe even absol.

Actually, I'd like the first gym to remain rock xD
...I think it's a nice tradition, lol =S

They better have a good story this time, though, like a ff or something x3

It's name is "Zoroark". It has a pre-evolve from "Zorua". The name is in Japanes. If any one want to know more visit Serebii web sites.

If resistance is what it's about, why not a Steel Gym as the first Gym. Fire and Water starters would have no problem, just give Fighting or Ground moves to the Grass one.

I'd like them to stick with the sprites.. at least for this gen!

Also, remember when Lucario was our glimpse of Sinnoh? don't one of the gym leaders have him? or was it jsut the E4?
Either way, I'm sure Zorua/Zorark'll be used by a tough person in-game.

Also, wjhere do you think Hoenn will fall in all of this?

Well, here's my Gen 5 'idea' list:

  • Pokemon Onyx Version & Pokemon Opal Version
  • Evil Teams: Team Sol & Team Luna, intent on harnessing the powers of the Sun/Moon to takeover the world through the use of the version exclusive legendaries.
  • Baby Legendary: Something pertaining to a balance between the Sun and Moon. Perhaps a Sunset, Sunrise, Twilight, or Eclipse Pokemon. Fairy-like, similar to Jirachi.
  • Version Exclusive Legends: The Solar and Lunar Pokemon. Solar Pokemon is Fire/Dragon (Chinese Dragon), Lunar Pokemon is Ice/Dark (Timber Wolf)
  • New Methods of Evloution: Evolving based on a Pokemon's hatred, evolving based on a Pokemon's condition (Other tahn Feebas), evolving when a specific Pokemon is in your party (Similar to Mantyke)
  • New Evolutions: Pincer, Jynx, Mr.Mime, Mightyena, Sandslash, Manaphy, Girafarig, Mawhile
  • New Pre-evolutions: Kangaskan, Smeargle, Zangoose, Seviper, Lapras
  • Zorua and Zoroark are one-time Pokemon that are inbreedable. Preferably given Legendary status, similar to Manaphy and Phione.
  • Jirachi is included in the regional dex. Dunno why, but Jirachi seems to fit into the whole Sun/Moon theme to me.
  • Revisit Hoenn in the post-game.
  • NO BATTLE FRONTIER/BATTLE TOWER.
  • Better in-game trades. Able to rename Pokemon traded in-game.
  • Pokemon Contests system similar to anime. Allowing payers to make combinations using their Pokemon's moves in the appeal round and then entering a battle round to determine the winner.
  • Customizable Trainer. This is a gimme.
  • Pokemon Follow Me feature.
  • PokeWalker <3
  • Secret bases! NO UNDERGROUND EVER AGAIN!
  • No more than 7 Legendary Pokemon.
  • Able to battle Brendan and May in Hoenn (Given Hoenn is accessable)
  • V.S. Seeker is a must.
  • No Poffins. Return to PokeBlock, so much easier and better.
  • Apricorns and Berry Planters.
  • Criminal Rival. Silver is awsome, but how about a female one this time?
  • Bare minimum of 4th Gen Pokemon. Like ten, if that.
  • Shiny Pokemon actually have some significance other than being different colored.
  • Variation Pokemon. If you catch a Tropius in a grassland area then it'll be regular-colored, but catching one in a snowy mountain area will have white leaves and a lighter skin pigment.
  • Alternative to Bicycle. Skateboard, anyone?
  • Make Fly nonlinear. I want to be able to fly to any route I want.
  • Only 5 HMs. Cut, Strength, Surf, Fly, and Waterfall.
  • Dive routes make a return.
Well, there's my whole list.

I definitely think Wind Waker-esque graphics are possible for the next gen, although I'll be happy as long as they are a significant improvement over the previous generations. The DS has much more capacity graphics-wise than what the fourth gen requires. I really have no idea what they'll do, but I will be extremely disappointed if the graphics remain at the standard of the fourth gen.

  • Pokemon Onyx Version & Pokemon Opal Version
Well, there's my whole list.

Pokemon Onyx Version is extremely unlikely since, well, you know...

Spoiler:

New Methods of Evloution: Evolving based on a Pokemon's hatred

I bet that's how Zorua will evolve.

I like some of those ideas, but some of them I don't like. Mind if I criticize?.. too late, I'm doing it anyway.

Pokemon Amber and Jade
Pokemon Turquoise
Pokemon WaterBlue and ThunderYellow
Pokemon LandRuby and SeaSapphire

Overworld: Now that we have had time of day and weather combined into one game, now is the time to introduce seasons. Much like how time of day influenced the rates of Pokemon availability, the season too will have the same effect.

Legends: Headed by the master of time Dialga, there should be a trio of beasts representing past, present, and future. These three beasts will each serve as a mascot for each game. I don't think time travel should be in these games, but I would like the past and future mentioned much more.

Coming as a new Ying/Yang couple like Mew to Mewtwo and Cresselia to Darkrai, there needs to be a close-to-uber duo of Peace and War. It would be nice if this duo premiered in a region that has a history or a future that intertwines between war and peace. The peace legendary is said to be seen during times of unjust war, and the war legendary is said to be seen during times of corrupt peace (I don't know how war will fly with some parents, but, going on...).

Customization: Instead of receiving the classic introduction from a Professor, the game should begin with a screen that comes up and no characters can be seen, much like the Mystery Dungeon series. The questions answered are a part of registering for your Pokemon licenses. Hidden with the answers will decide the initial outer appearance of your character. Here are some of the criteria covered:
- Name
- Gender
- Age
- Height/Weight
- Skin Tone
- Hair Color
- Eye Color

As you progress through the game, the media may want you to expand on this information and may be included on television programs during wi-fi usage.

The clothing your character will be basic and most likely, much like Animal Crossing, random. You will be able to buy clothes for customization later in the game.

Age does change the storyline and is more befitting to more mature audiences.

Pokemon need to continue to follow the trainer around.

Happiness: This system will be much more complex. For example, it is no longer limited to trade for a Pokemon to disobey you. If your Pokemon is unhappy, even if you caught it, it may not follow your commands.

With this, there will also be a new way to catch Pokemon. Some Pokemon, especially babies like Pichu, do not want to be hurt and then caught- that upsets them. Instead, some Pokemon may prefer for you to befriend them. However, befriending rates vary like catch rates. Some Pokemon may join if you invite them and other times the Pokemon will show an interest in joining your party. Some Pokemon, like Mew, cannot be caught the traditional way, but will require heavy wooing to get her to join.

Pokemon Changes: As shown before, many type combinations, designs, and other details such as gender ratio will be edited. Legendaries really need to have genders, but they should be readily available for breeding.

With the one comment that you made on Pokemon-party evolutions, they could do that if they introduce a Plusle-Minun evolution. Plusle will evolve into the "neutral" evolution if it levels up with a Minun in the party and Minun will evolve into the same evolution if it levels up with a Plusle in the party.

Wi-Fi Features: Internet play will be safer at times. For example, now you can select to do a random battle with anybody in the world with a following set of rules, but if they are a younger age, Pokemon nicknames will not appear and your character will be given a basic name.

Other Gameplay Changes: Secret bases need to come back, and if adults can be player characters, then the option to purchase a house should be available.

In past posts, I discussed variants and HMs. Since I'm too lazy to type is all again, just search and refer to those posts wherever they are.

Oh yes, and I'm going to just toss this out in the open, but here's my idea for gyms.

1. Poison
----- Venessa (venom)
----- This will challenge players as poisoning really sucks the life out of Pokemon, especially whenever they are underleveled.
2. Fire
----- Bernard (burn)
----- Again, this will be another challenge dealing with burn.
3. Dragon
----- Arthur (King Arthur)
----- Great, now you have to deal with a resistance to grass, fire, water, and electric.
4. ???
5. Dark
----- Mark and/or Meredith (Mark=Dark, Meredith sounds like "death")
6. Ground
----- Sandy (sand)
7. Bug
----- Tirana (sounds similar to "tarantula")
8. Grass
----- Herb (plant)

Elite Four
Normal (Jane)
Electric (Elle)
Flying (Ariel)
Rock (George)
