3rd Gen The Johto Starters

If you could complete the regional Pokedex in Pokemon Emerald, Professor Birch would give you the choice of a Johto Starter Pokemon! Did you complete the regional Pokedex in Emerald? Did you know you would get one of these Pokemon as a reward? AND FINALLY, which one did you pick?

I picked Cyndaquil, because Quilava was my favorite Pokemon when I was younger. :)

It took a long time but I managed to finish it. I chose Totodile as it was my first ever starter.

I did try completing it, but no, I wasn't able to. :( If I were, I most likely would have picked Cyndaquil.

In my very first play through of Emerald, I think I earned the privilege of choosing a Johto starter. To vary my regular choice of Cyndaquil, I decided to go with Chikorita. Never got to training her, though. At the moment, she sits in my Emerald PC at her original level. :c

I picked Cyndaquil first, then Chikorita on another. Totodile is by far my favorite, but I want to fully raise him as a starter when I do get Soul Silver.

I never got to complete the Pokedex, because I never really paid attention to it. If I did though, then I'd probably pick Cyndaquil.

I did try completing it, but no, I wasn't able to. :( If I were, I most likely would have picked Cyndaquil.

Same here. I only needed Gorebyss too :(. I would've also picked Cyndaquil (for some reason I tend to pick all fire when ever Torchic is involved...)

Yeah, I did. My choice was of course Totodile and it helped me to become Champion once again. :)

All I needed was Feebas and Moltic to complete the dex.
I would of taken Totodile as I love that little guy.

Right now I just need to evolve Milotic and will choose the starter I'm missing out of the two I chose on Colosseum. Forget what one is, but know I got the Quilava on Colo first. All the batteries died on my RSE games, so no berries to evolve Feebas. Thankfully, thanks to Garadge Sales I for a legit mint Emerald some kid used for 5 hours for a dollar with working battery. See? Dreams do come true XD I have had a lot of fun on my Hoenn adventures though <3

I got Emerald fairly late (didn't originally think I wanted it, but decided that the Battle Frontier looked fun, so I picked it up used later on). I generally complete my Pokedex in one game in a region, and I was much closer in Sapphire, so I never bothered completing it in Emerald. I knew about the starters, but I'd already picked them up from Colosseum/XD and bred a bunch, so I actually played through Emerald with the Johto starters already on my team.


I liked how XY gave out a Kanto starter early on. Saving the Johto starters for as long as Emerald decreased their usefulness substantially for in-game purposes.


I probably would have picked Totodile, my Gold version starter, or if not that, Cyndaquil (to complement my Mudkip). I doubt I would have gone for Chikorita.

I was aware one could receive a Johto starter thanks to the Internet; however, I didn't both completing the regional Pokedex in Emerald just to get one. I like using certain Pokemon more than collecting them, and as I already got the opportunity to use the Johto starters in Colo, I felt that there was no need to obtain them in Emerald. If I -did- make an effort to get them, then I probably would've picked Totodile for sentimental value.
