Zelda has been part of my life pretty much ever since I got my first game system (excluding the handhelds). The first system I ever got which I could call my very own was a Gamecube at Christmas when I was about 6 years old, and I got Mario Kart: Double Dash and the Zelda Collector's Edition along with it. To be honest, despite the fact that it was only a demo, Wind Waker was what caught my eye on that disk at first, and the only one of the games that I actually spent any time on when I first got it. I reckon it might've been the cartoony look that appealed more to me than the dark and gloomy art style that both OoT and MM had, and the first two Zelda games just looked waay too old for me haha. But yeah, WW got a spot on the wishlist for my birthday, and luckily I also got it :D And as one could guess, it was also the first Zelda game I managed to complete.
After that, I believe Four Swords Adventures was the next game I got. I enjoyed it, but I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any form of local multiplayer that didn't anything more than just another controller, but oh well. The concept was pretty cool though, and I liked how it gave some new and interesting puzzles. But again, I'm sure it would've been much more fun with multiplayer.
Next game was The Minish Cap, and I really enjoyed that game. I thought it was really fun, and made the whole shrinking aspect work really well into the gameplay. Both in puzzles and with the kinstone "sidequest", and I really enjoyed just looking around to find possible secret areas that I'd missed. While the Earth, Fire and Water/Ice settings are pretty standard for the Zelda series, I believe it was the first time there was a sky setting, which has become a bit of a staple. In any case, I liked the story, the puzzles, the temples, the items, etc., and I would definitely love to see a sequel utilizing the same concept. Unfortunately, I lost this game quite a while. It especially sucks, since it was my favourite at the time ;'(
After that, I got the A Link to the Past port for the GBA, and if I'm gonna completely honest, the game didn't appeal quite that much to me. Don't get me wrong, I still found it fun, but not nearly on the same scale as Wind Waker and Minish Cap. I reckon it might've been because I got so accustomed to the cartoon artstyle of those two games, so going back to the old artstyle, which I again saw as kinda dark and gloomy in comparison; I just didn't like it quite as much. The game definitely took me a while to beat, since the difficulty was quite a bit higher than the previous ones I'd played, and everything wasn't quite as set in stone. Like how you needed to locate an item somewhere in the overworld before you could beat a certain boss. Luckily I've always been a bit of an exploration junkie when it comes to the Zelda games, so I didn't manage to find it beforehand, but yeah. And I often had an extremely hard time with the bosses. One thing I really liked was the length though. I believe it was quite a bit longer than Minish Cap, excluding the post-game elements MC had, so I definitely felt like I got a lot out of it :D
After that, I finally returned to the Collector's Edition, and realised that Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask actually weren't demos, and I managed to play through both games over some time. When I would inevitably get stuck in one game, I'd go to the other and continue/try to figure out how to get past whatever I was stuck at, rinse and repeat. I never actually beat OoT 'because I sucked too much to beat Ganon, and last time I got close to getting through it again, my GC memory card stopped working. So yeah, I don't have any of my save files from the GC games anymore D: But yeah, I did manage to beat MM, and to this day it's actually my favourite Zelda game, solely for the concept and atmosphere it's built all around. I felt like it played really well on the entire doomed feeling, and the fact you couldn't go anywhere without being reminded that the world was close to being destroyed. And overall it was also a fun game, especially the mask sidequests. Both OoT and MM really played with my arachnophobia though, so I still hate them for that :(
Next was Twilight Princess. I'm honestly not quite sure how I feel about this game.I found it fun through the first time I played it, and I remember playing it through again, but I just left it there for a while and didn't return to it for a long time. I reckon it might be due to the temples honestly. I never really liked them too much, but a lot of the pre-temple stuff and just all the story-driven things we had to do. I found them really fun. I wasn't a huge fan of finding the bugs as a wolf, but some of it was fun, like the ones in Kakariko village. So yeah, I found it to be really fun, apart from most of the temples. I especially hated the Ice Mansion one. I did play quite a way through not too long ago, but that was after my memory card stopped working, and once I eventually reached the snow area, I honestly lost interest. And I couldn't ever pick up on it, since I had no way to save it D: But yeah, once I get a working memory card again, I might play through it again.
Last game was Skyward Sword, and honestly, I'm really confused here. I enjoyed it a whole lot while playing it through the first time, but I just haven't been able to play through it again. I reckon it might be all the cutscenes. I really enjoyed the story the first time around, but now that I know it and everything they explain, I feel like they're honestly just dragging the game out. And I can't just skip them, because that's exclusive to Hero Mode, and that means I have to play through the game on a harder difficulty, which I'm honestly not interested in. So so far, I haven't even made it past the first temple on a second playthrough :/
But that's about it. I definitely need a Wii U for the next Zelda game. I already went through the experience of missing every single DS and 3DS release there was, I don't want to do the same with the Wii U :[
