4th Gen The 'Pokemon Following You' Discussion Thread

The new video on Filb.de shows footage of Arceus following and Gizamimi & PC Pichu following at the same time.

I would like some of my Pokemon from my Platinum to follow me in Heart Gold. PorygonZ, Dragonite, Leafeon, Floatzel, Togekiss, Venusaur, Mr. Mime, Gengar, Vaporeon, Gyarados... (all of these Pokemon are over level 80 & legit.)

Edit: haven't seen that video yet.

I wonder if shiny pokemon other than Gyrados and Pichu will be shown walking.

I think that the idea of any Pokemon being able to follow you around is the greatest thing yet to happen in a Pokemon game (maybe not, but it's pretty cool). I enjoyed having Pikachu follow me around in Pokemon Yellow; I felt better with company rather than just walking alone. Plus, it makes that lead Pokemon feel closer to you as they follow you around.

I am thinking of making an Aerodactyl follow me for maybe some time of the game as I want to see how they make him look. I may also take a metagross out and see him walk with those four cute legs. I find Metagross's legs very cute. (I am actually going to bring all of my captured pokemon out one by one as I would like to see all of their sprites.)

I wonder if having a pokemon out who has an HM would show that pokemon smashing a rock, or moving a boulder, or cutting down a tree....?

This is actually a good question, because right now nothing is known about it. However, if it is done so, then for the least if the HM using Pokémon is out first then more than likely it may simply step up in front of the object and the usually screen event may happen for the HM use to be fulfilled. This also brings up the topic on surf as well as if we'll actually be getting to ride on our actual Pokémon with their individual OW sprite or if it'll be a set figure like usual. Whichever, it doesn't bother me as I'm used to how things work, but nevertheless it'll still be a nice touch to the game.

A couple of Pokémon I'd like to have following me though are probably Notch Eared Pichu, Houndoom, a few legendaries, and a personal favorite Electivire and a newly trained Dragonite. It'll be really cool to see how it all turns out with this feature and a fun little thing to play around with when bored I would believe. With this new addition to the game along, it only brings the quality of the game to something higher than before. Not to mention, the next generation of games are going to have to come good to overcome this one remake.

I can't wait for my new cyndaquil and mareep :) and then when they evolve it will be amazing :):):):):):)

Since Kanto will be included, I'll take my Pokémon to the Soul House just for the heck of it.

Having an Arceus following you would be win.
And what happens when Wailord follows you?

Yes, Arceus has even been shown to follow us if you didn't see so as yet. They did a really nice job with its OW sprite to fit in one tile. As for Wailord, nothing has been shown on it as yet, but it is known that it'll be shown in one tile as well. It may appear to be floating in the game is my guess, as having it move on the ground would seem a bit odd. I would believe the best thing to do though is to try it out when we actually obtain the game. Nevertheless, it'll be a sight to see for the fun of the game and all.

i dont know if this has been asked yet, but it is optional for the pokemon to follow you, or is it just automatically the first one in your party always follows you?

Right now all we know is that all 493 Pokémon may follow us. It is also known that the first one in your roster follows you as well. Currently though, it is unsure if the feature may be optional or not. Many have speculated about it and some hope for it to be optional. As for myself, I wouldn't mind having it optional because there will be certain times when it may get annoying and then at times when it may just be wanted by the player. So, we'll still need more details on this feature to know whether or not it is optional or permanent within the game.

That seems a bit... annoying. Having 6 Pokemon follow you everywhere? That's gotta be a pain.

Wailord FTW.

I'm going to have a Jirachi follow me throughout the whole game.
