It's a worthwhile catch for an early route pokemon. It's final form has a good attack, very solid defenses, stab return and can learn the elemental fang moves and crunch, iron head, superpower for coverage + has access too useful abilities sand rush and intimidate.
14. That's common for normal types I would say when we look at Pokemon like Persian, Swellow, Noctowl, Buneary, Bunnelby, Tranquil, Ursaring, Wooloo or Toucanon. They usually have seedate designs and are I think intended to closely parallel the animals from our world, hence the name of being normal I guess.

Pokemon Sword expands on it's origins, adding that, "Herdier is a very smart and friendly Pokémon. So much so that there's a theory that Herdier was the first Pokémon to partner with people."
