I didn't know about the males not evolving when I first played. Figured out the hard way.

Pokemon that only evolve with certain gender (like combee) are some of my least favorite things in the series. It does nothing except punish people playing blind.

I don't necessarily dislike Gender specific evolutions.
I do dislike that they often make it the rarer gender though.

Gallade and Froslass are good gender-specific evolutions. Female Ralts and male Snorunt can evolve.

That and they got a better gender ratio that's pretty much 50-50.
Whereas Combee and Salandit are a roughly 12% chance of getting the right gender that can actually evolve. Which is just tedious unless you get lucky.
