Yeah, not a fan of its Mega either. You can absolutely go the whole game without it, though; the only moment in which I Mega Evolved my Sandy was during the battle against Steven. I kind of regret it that too.

Water and ground is a great typing, only weakness is grass, which isn't as common of a typing, none of the Hoenn gym or Elite Four members specialize in grass types, so lots of good matchups for Swampert.
