The Rom Hacking Newsletter. New.

Yay, my hack got reviewed ^^. I'll get to work on the vegies problem now, or rather, my graphics person will ^^. I'm glad you like it ^^. Oh, and great job with the hack form of RHN :D

I noticed an alarmingly large number of grammatical/spelling errors but I'm on my phone right now so I can't show you them.
Still, this was a nice issue. Yes, it was long but for some reason it just doesn't seem the same as it did back in the day when dshayabusa was running the RHN. Still, good work everyone. I'll get around to playing that patch tomorrow ;)

I played the RHN game!
I got to meet myself xD
Anyways a great issue guys;
I feel good because I got to contribute.

Yeah, that's what I think too...

Still, it was a good read, nice and long. But that game was littered with grammatical errors and my eyes hurt. >_>

Darn, I missed my own mistake. Please change there to their in my rant Panda. I don't usually mix those up.

You may not realise this, but not everyone knows who Malin is. It might be a good idea to change that to dshayabusa... I mean Thrace. Or maybe you shouldn't have named darthatron, and just written Darcy.

Instead of putting "Review 2:", why not put "Second Opinion:"?

Actually, why don't we just make it so like one hack a week can get a Second Opinion, so that people can get a broader range of criticism when they get their hack rated.

Also, I think it's a good idea to name who won the HotW and what hack won before we put in the article, like they did before. :)

Ha true, i am just so used to the visitor font on MSN saying Malin and Darthatron [Darcy]. I will control myself next time ;)

That meet the RHN team is going straight to Dusk
It'll help get more people to look here.
And guys, don't forget that I can fix your spelling and grammar if you need me to.
Because I found a lot of mistakes

Edit: You should add to my text " I'm also incredibly lazy and didn't write an article for this week" XD.

Seeing as I'm going to build a ROM Hacker's Corp. in the big city in my ROM Hack, can I use this as a floor? Not the exact thing, of course, but can I use the idea?

Do you guys need a gfx man for awards 'n stuff? :cer_nod:

Yea, but include names for all the staff if there are names so no one feels left out :P

The issue will now be bi weekly so new issue every 2 weeks.

Could I make a suggestion about for next week's issue, put the Sav file error issues people are having with the Flash 56k sav files. Everyone has seen too much of that.

I haven't read through an entire issue but I've browsed through parts of them. Its a pretty good effort and some of your new ideas are really good. I thought I'd give you guys some advice...

One of the reasons RHN was so popular is because of the Tips and Tricks section. When I was doing RHN my tricks were actually helpful. No offence but its the truth. A few tutorials exist already that explain exactly how to do what you've described.

The rant idea isn't good. The reports in the old RHN while opinionated were clear and concise. And to be brutally honest I don't think people really care. Most of the people that I hired when RHN first started were well known and well respected in the community. Most of the people doing RHN now aren't.

The interviews are too short and seem the same every week. This is something I was guilty of when I was running RHN too. You should have a list of questions at the start but you need to ask questions that provoke more questions. People are sick of hearing the same questions week after week. Asking the interviewee what they'd like to be asked might work however awkward it might be. You need to have something special about every hacker you interview to make them memorable. I for one can still remember the best interviews of the old RHN (Cartmic, HackMew, Darthatron, zel) because they're interviews were unlike the others which followed the same boring pattern.

Theres a few other things I'd go over but I think this is enough for now.

I was one of them :D.

In latter versions the interviews in old RHN started to become the same aswell.
"What got you into hacking"
"What do you find fun about hacking"
"Why do you hack"
"Thanks goodbye"

You make a good point Thrace, the Tips / Tricks section is an important part of the RHN, but I mean, there are not so many topics left... I CAN think of some things that would come in handy, that I think I will give to Panda..
I also agree on how most of the RHN staff is not very well known... I mean, I don't know how well known I am even... and how a lot of our staff is pretty unknown, or new at the whole hacking thing / reporting...
Finally, I ALSO agree on your views about the interviews, they are far too small, and often repetitive, but as I say again, there are not many more people worth interviewing... The RHN of old was pretty much the Ultimate RHN, especially since there were people TO interview... not many people are left, and all we can do is just sit here, hoping some shining star of hope will make it onto the Rom Hacking scene. Unfortunately, people either give up, or just suck at what they do... *cough*Simple edits like legendary starters...*cough*

Thanks for the advice though, if you have anything to say, everyone here at the RHN will listen, respect it, and take it into mind when we do what we do here... I know I will!
