New Haruhi Suzumiya Anime Series Details Revealed

The official Japanese website for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya television anime series has announced further details about the franchise's next anime project. In the spirit of the first anime series and the Haruhi Suzumiya science fiction comedy light novels that spawned the franchise, the announcement was made in a roundabout, cryptic manner.

On Tuesday, the site "disappeared" and began displaying a false error message that read, "The page cannot be found." A second message then appears over the first message; it states that a computer program is starting up and prompts the user for a password. If the user enters "K," "N," "S," "A," and "K" (the initials of the family names of the members of SOS brigade, the main characters in the series) into the password fields and selects the radio button to the right, a fake xterm terminal session opens. A series of messages from "YUKI.N" confirms that the key to the "emergency escape program" has been found and asks for a final confirmation before starting the program. If the user hits the enter key, a new page opens that shows the character Yuki and lists the production credits of the new series.

The page reveals that the previously announced second anime season of Haruhi Suzumiya has been "cancelled" and replaced with a new animation project. Yasuhiro Takemoto (Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, Lucky Star) will direct the new project, and Kyoto Animation will still be animating as it did for the first anime project. As in the previous anime project, the fictional "leader" of the new anime project is the character Haruhi Suzumiya herself. The "disappearance" of the website on December 18 at 4:00 a.m. (Japan Standard Time) is a reference to the pivotal date in The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the fourth volume in the light novel series and an apparent indication of which novel plot the new anime project will adapt. Bandai Entertainment finished its English-language release of the first anime project in November.

I think that's the most Haruhi-ish thing that they could have done with their website.
 
Well, haruhi.tv went back to normal only a few days after they took it down.

Either way, we're going to get our second season.

So, whatever happened to that RP you guys had going? Did it die like everything else in that forum? Not enough RPers around to commit to big projects now-a-days. It's a shame, really. =/

I don't know if this has ever been answered outside of the anime (like in the novels or something), but has anyone ever wondered why Haruhi seems to attract aliens, time travelers, and espers, but nothing else? I know Koizumi explains it as them all being there because Haruhi wills it, but I've never understood why just those three types. Like, there could be things like ghosts and dimension travelers and stuff like that, and there are a lot more common things for Haruhi to believe in other than espers. I didn't even know what an esper was before watching this. XD

That's a pretty good point. I mean I've never even thought of that either. It would have been interesting to see that too. Maybe something like that will happen in the second season.

By the way, your Haruhi theme is really awesome, David. <3
 
Could I please join too?
I just finished watching the first season (English sub) a few days ago and it was really fun to watch. Haruhi was awesome. And the songs in it are pretty cool, not to mention the Hare Hare Yukai dance.

Concerning the Haruhi RP, it's just about as good as dead, really. I've been called upon several times to join up and give it the kick in the rear that it so desperately needs, but I simply haven't had the time. Your involvement might improve things, but I understand perfectly if you've got more pressing matters to attend to.

Haruhi theory was never my strong suit; I was more concerned with how that theory was put into practice. In any case, Haruhi does express interest in sliders, if fan translations are to be trusted. Also, it would stand to reason that ghosts would be among the various phenomena that the SOS Brigade ostensibly investigates.

That would make an interesting plot right there. At least for a fanfiction. o.o;

Also, there was also the remote island syndrome episode where upon entering that mansion, Haruhi seemed really interested about it having ghosts or being haunted, remember that?

There was only two people actively posting in it and another one who came and went XD;
It wasn't paid too much attention to either so whatever, it was fun while it lasted~

Same, kinda. I knew what it WAS but I didn't catch on to the ESP in esper for a while ^^'

Jack and Kimi: Yeah... the only thing I really caught onto when they were at that mansion was the Ace Attorney refrence(hah...). Kimi makes an excellent point though, I thought the same thing(vaguely) when ghosts were brought up as a topic-ish point.

We'll just wait for the current one to die and then restart it with new participants. Hopefully, the second time will be the charm.

Huuummm... Okay, TOPIC! Of all the Haruhi Eccentricities did you find funniest?
I liked the boyfriend thing in the beginning "Said yes then dumped him five minutes later". It was awesome ._.
 
Well I've been ungodly busy since I have exams next week, but all of my projects are done now so I officially have plenty of free time again. So I'm in. Although I don't see a purpose In waiting another week for it to hit the one month mark if nobody is posting anyways. XD; I think when it is remade, however, you should try and quiet the tone down a bit. I was looking at the plot, and one of the things that bugged me was all fo the transfer students coming nowhere and the hectic SOS Brigade. I think a better and easier to use background would be just to have the originals all just go off to college, have the SOS Brigade day for a little while, and then have this new girl (who would replace Haruhi) just come along one day, hear about the Brigade somehow, and try to make a new one. Also, the hunt for Haruhi. That seems fun and all, but with the novels not even finished, we have no clue what happens in the end. Anything could have happened to her. I think it may just be best to end up just doing a "Fresh SOS Brigade Start" kind of deal to avoid making things overly complicated. The novel has already proven that Haruhi may not be the only one capable of manipulating the world, so why not this new girl as well? Just my 2 cents that may not be worth anything. XD

That being said, I had a good idea for my character, though it extends out of the esper / alien / time traveler norm. Instead, my character idea was someone from another world who claims his / her world may be at risk because of this girl, so he / she needs to monitor her.

Anyways... Haruhi's eccentricities. This is hard. I'm not overly fond of Haruhi as a character, I like Kyon and the supporting cast much more. But, I suppose the hairstyle thing is pretty interesting.
