2nd Gen The starters were holding a Berry

In this generation, all the Johto starters were holding a berry. Since then, no starter has ever come with a held item attached to them when given to you. What did you think of this? I think this was obviously a thing to take advantage of, at the time, the held item mechanic. Although, I wish they'd still do this today. This wasn't even in the remakes, just G/S/C.

It was cool. I remember taking the berry from my Chikorita at the start of the game and gave it back to it only before fighting Falkner just to have advantage over him.

I always keep the starting potion in the PC, and when I noticed that the starter held a berry I stored it too. It's kind of a treasure.

I don't even think I ever noticed this.

Playing the VC versions, it took me by surprise during my first battle with the rival. It was a very nice surprise indeed.
