Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald were fantastic games and my favorites in the entire series, however they weren't perfect. There were a few problems such as no mart on Dewford Island meaning you had to travel back (or forward where you would be met by numerous trainers) to get basic items such as potions or poke balls. Also the amount of water routes was annoying although the region was supposed to show the balance between land and water. Also all the Hoenn games were terrible for training, most people could defeat the elite four without much time grinding however the Steven fight was a different story. Due to the upgraded engine and technological advances made in recent years they can surely make some things better :)

So, as these are remakes im sure Game Freak won't change too much, but what changes would you like to see?

I'm hoping they give the villainous teams more variety instead of just seeing the same three Pokémon over and over again, for one.

And yeah I too am desperate to see better training spots, or the Lucky Egg again because that would make it more bearable at least somewhat.

I also didn't enjoy the repetition. I'd hope Archie/Maxie have something their grunts don't... ahaha

    1. Gym leader rematches please! I believe this was possible in Emerald but not in the first two.

    2. Make most of the caves -- specifically the Cave of Origin -- more compelling. The Cave of Origin was a massive disappointment in terms of layout and diversity of wild Pokemon. I will say that Meteor Falls was awesome so no need to change that much.

    3. The rival should be upgraded to be more challenging. No need for the rival to play a huge part of the story like in RBY or even GSC, but the RSE rival was laughable....never even fully evolved their starter.

    4. Postgame in RS was non-existant, so improvements can be made there. Perhaps a gen 5 or 6 legendary can make an appearance? Maybe the player can chase Manaphy across the ocean!

I'd like to see Pokemon League rematches (i.e., they have different and stronger Pokemon), and an easier way of rebattling Trainers (or having a place to go for daily matches, much like the stadiums in BW/BW2 and the Battle Chateau in XY) and Gym Leaders. I disliked the Match Call/whatever it was called in RS; if they bring it back (I assume they will), hopefully it'll be easier to rebattle people.

Other than that, I agree with giving the villainous teams more variety. Even if they're limited to a few types they can still have more than just Mightyenas and Golbats/Crobats and Numels/Camerupts and Carvanhas/Sharpedos and whatnot.

Yeah have to say a different type of roaming legendary like Manaphy which would travel around the ocea would be awesome (not just the same birds and dogs) and perhaps new areas could be accessible that we have never seen before post game. And yeah the rival was pathetic, not fully evolving their starter was strange and made the game less challenging.

There's not much that needs to be changed, RSE are great as they are. They could make some minor additions i.e Elite Four Rematches, slight expansion on the Team Aqua/Magma storyline but other than that I'm happy with those games.

But that was the point. Prof. Birch's Kid wasn't trying to be a hotshot trainer or show you up. They were exploring and cataloging the Pokemon of the region for Prof. Birch. Despite how people in the fandom refer to them, they were never really supposed to be your rival.

Instead, your rival was Wally. He was the one trying to become a great trainer so he could beat you and get validation. This is why Wally shows up in Victory Road, not PBK.

I think it could be improved - add in an extra battle between the Mauville fight, and the PBK fight in Lilycove. He'd maybe have a Kirlia, Swablu, and a Roselia - it'd give his future team some context. It always bothered me how, other than the Gardevoir, his entire team just comes out of nowhere in his second fight.

I think Rayquaza will be obtainable the same way as RSE. I do think if it has a Mega it'll require the presence of the other two in order to obtain the stone.

I think they should simply add more areas. Also add another match between May/Branden and the player. Maybe before the League. Sort of like how Cheren and Bianca challenged us at different points on the road to the league in BW.

    1. Team Magma's Hideout be the Emerald version, not the Ruby one. It never made sense why a team hell bent on expanding the land had a base on the SEA that you had to SURF to. How did they get there anyway? What on their teams could SURF? And why are they training Wailmer? Ugh.

    2. Elite Four rematches. I'd like for them to level up like how they do in newer games. I liked what they did with the gym leader rematches though, so I hope those remain the same, but just make them more frequent so you don't have to wait around for them so often.

    3. More variety for the evil organizations. Pull some Pokemon that they had in the TCG, if anything. Those were good and varied, like Team Magma's Claydol. That's a good card too, btw.

    4. Let Brendan/May fully evolve their starter. I know someone mentioned that they weren't meant to show you up in battle usually, but they still seemed hurt at a loss. Scott mentions that they're red in the face when you beat them before getting to Fortree, so they clearly care, just not to the extent of, say, Blue or Silver. Even though they try to work on the Dex for their dad, you think that'd mean they'd have a final stage starter. At least give them that much, GameFreak.

    5. Rivals in mind, give Wally a better presence as a rival. I feel like he had great potential, but with only two battles in the main story, I feel like he could use some work. I think two battles makes sense, because we see just how much he's grown over all of this time in between the two battles, but at least more contact with him or some tag battles at some point would be pretty interesting. I won't be too upset if we don't see him more in battle, because like I said, it makes sense, but I'd at least like for him to show up more often and have more of a rival role to a better degree of what he had in RSE.

    6. Add Emerald post-game Safari Zone Pokemon to the main areas. I want more variety in the wild life in ORAS than what RSE gave us. Sure, it was a lot, but many of those Safari only Pokemon Emerald gave us were pretty good! Like Mareep, Houndour, and Wooper. I'd like to see those in the region, and going back to the evil teams, Houndour and Wooper would be a nice addition for Magma and Aqua respectively!

I think that's all I have for now!

Hoenn was probably the best region in terms of construction and flow, but there were a few small things that threw me off. I hated the fact that Dewford didn't have a mart, and with the merging of marts in Pokemon Center since Gen V, I think that problem will be fixed in ORAS. Other than that, I really hope they find a way to involve Wally more in the story and develop him as a character of significance. I felt like in the original RSE games, he had a lot of potential, but just kind of went away for most of the game.

Ah, yeah, I almost forgot about Wally ;; I would definitely like him to be more involved, even if it's just seeing him appear a few more times and getting to battle him on more occasions. He definitely has potential to develop, and I always found it odd how he made less appearances than Brendan/May, who I felt weren't so much rivals as they were friends, sort of like Shauna/Tierno/Trevor.

IMO there's only one reason as to why Wally would play a bigger role and that's the idea that he has a Gardevoir, and he'll most likely end up discovering its Mega evolution sooner or later. Other than that, though... not quite sure. Maybe he'll end up with a Gallade in one of the versions?

I would like the return of NPC Refight with a better team from Emerald. And I want not just higher level but new pokemons on their team.

That's most likely what they'll do with him, but I feel like he was meant to have more of a role in the game. Maybe in small doses, like being there when you fight the evil teams on Mt. Pyre, or helping with them near Fortree, or outside of Sootopolis during the epic legendary battle. He just came and went, unimportant and underdeveloped. They could include some double/triple/rotation battles with him and Team Magma/Aqua as well.

Maybe that's why they wanted to expand the land! Getting tired of the fact their base had to be surfed to. ;)

Honestly I just really want a rival that's a challenge! In XY I found the rivals especially ridiculous because one of them was focused on completing the Pokedex and one of them was focused on becoming the best - and each only had 3 Pokemon throughout the main storyline. This isn't the anime - the message that "unevolved Pokemon are just as strong" is never mentioned so I've always been very confused when I meet characters who strive to be the best with only a couple of Pokemon. I let the random trainers slide for the sake of not being ridiculous, but was I honestly supposed to lose to a trainer with 3 Pokemon whose levels are all lower than mine?

I suppose that's all I really want, haha.

Me too, for the most part. In the PokéNav, May's amazing strategy is as follows:
"I'm not so good at battles."

What. WHAT. Then who is our rival, huh? Is May another stupid NPC that stalks us like Scott? Someone who merely provides us with cheap exp points and certain items necessary to advance through the game? I really don't see Wally as our rival, either. The part where we show Wally how to catch a Pokémon is just a tutorial for the player himself, as Wally does pretty much all there is to catching a weak wild Pokémon. And then we meet Wally in Mauville with a really stupid Ralts, after which he proceeds to disappear for almost the entire game. Who is our rival? Huh?

    1. Rematches. Gym leaders, Elite Four, Champion... you name it.

    2. The rival... should have more personality, be more involved in the storyline and be tougher. It's pathetic to see your rival still use a 2nd evolution of the starter at Lilycove City.

    3. Team Magma's hideout should be in the Jagged Pass, or even the Scorched Slab which was terribly underused. Near Lilycove should be more suited for Team Aqua.

    4. Contests can include more elements... (Contest battles?) Wireless contests with friends, strangers and even make PokeBlocks with them would be really cool.

    5. The trick house should have more puzzles... and the trick master shouldn't give up that easily!

    6. Wally should be a lot tougher. I do not wish to see him be a champion, but rather someone like Steven in Emerald.

    7. PSS, Amie, Wonder Trade, Super Training and other Gen 6 elements should make a return to make the games be on par with XY in terms of fairness.

    8. Using SpotPass/StreetPass to discover the secret bases of others!

I'm just hoping there would be like new teams to incorporate the new Pokemon introduced after Gen 3 like use more Fire Pokemon for Magma and Water Pokemon for Aqua, and new and better Pokemon used in Gym Battles. Also rematches! Can't forget about that! :)

Maybe they will introduce a third team that could be Team Zephyr to represent Rayquaza.
