It really depends on the mess site, for a small area on certain types of flooring like tile or wood, I would rather use a broom because it's quiet, light to carry, no assembly or disassembly required or trips to storage, you just it pick up and sett it back against the wall when you are done. I also have scented brooms to make the area smell nice,best of all brooms functions as transportation for me as I fly off into the night,[/b] but brooms are more limited in what they can clean. So I am probably going to pick the vacuum, without context for what I am cleaning, because a vacuum can go into more areas, so I am covered either way- you can use it on hard surfaces, if you have too, but unlike a broom it will be able to travel across carpets. The vacuum is also less exhausting if you have large areas to clean up, though I can go into small places too with the handheld or extensions, and for heavily soiled areas, vacuum is what you need with it's more powerful suction. Last but not least, there are robot vacuums that can clean the house on their own, and my bissel can do that to save me energy,
