    Fedoras have quite the reputation on the internet. On one hand, it's one of those fancy-looking headwear you wish you could own, but on the other hand, it's become a symbol for a stereotypical "neckbeard" group who hate fun and only enjoy subjects that are "2deep4u," causing some people to avoid wearing these hats like the plague. I would like hear your thoughts on this infamous headwear. Ever owned a fedora yourself, and if so, how do you deal with these stereotypes?
     
    I have one somewhere in a cabinet. It smells like booze and drugs, as it used to be my uncles, who was a hobo, and substance abuser. I do believe that there must be someone who can pull it off, and that someone probably isn't obese, and his probably doesn't confine to his neck alone. If he even has one at all. He's probably very attractive.
     
    They were really cool in the 20's and 30's.
     
    I actually wore fedoras myself from time to time a couple of years ago before they were stigmatized. I'm not even a guy, and thus cannot be a "neckbeard" nice guy™ or whatever kids call it these days but even so... I'm probably better fashionably for ditching that type of hat.

    I initially started wearing them cuz my stepfather had too many and wearing hats was one (lazy) way of keeping my fluffy hair under control. I made sure each hat fit the color scheme of what I was wearing and I actually got complimented on my hats a lot by both men and women. While now I've ditched the fedora, I still wear other types of hats such as berets, beanies, and newsboy caps sometimes.

    I was never euphoric enough to wear a fedora ever.

    That says alot coming from someone who went through a "militant atheist socialist" phase when I was a middle schooler.
     
    I tell you what, tho...

    One time at college I saw a dude wearing a top hat with casual clothes. There was no special event or anything going on...
    Another time on campus, there was a dude wearing a fedora AND an Anonymous "V for Vendetta" mask while playing the guitar in an elevator.

    Sometimes I can't even... Ya see it all at college, I guess.
     
    Never owned one, but I have been told that it works with my head when my curly hair pokes out. Personally, though, I dislike them because so very few people I see can actually pull them off. I see people wear them, and I just mentally go "no... stop." Also, people who /have/ to wear them with suits just make my eye roll.
     
    I'm all for breaking stereotypes, but I've only seen one person irl wear a fedora/trilby (idk the difference tbh) and he fit all of the neckbeard stereotypes.
     
    OKAY I'M GOING TO CLEAR A FUCKING MISCONCEPTION HERE. NO SELF-RESPECTING "HIPSTER" (WHATEVER THAT EVEN MEANS ANYMORE) WOULD EVER GET CAUGHT DEAD WEARING A FEDORA. THEY WERE IN FASHION AT SOME POINT BUT NOW THEY'RE A TOTAL JOKE. the whole *tips fedora* meme is really overplayed and unfunny though. but I mean it's a meme so.

    I think they look douchy but that might just be a result of the stigma.

    My husband had and wore one before it got lame to. The cool window for the hat was very short lived. I'd love to see hats brought back into mainstream fashion. Except for floppy beach hats on women and caps on men you don't tend to see them much at all.
     
    I actually have a fedora looking at me right now. Admittedly it's covered in dust because it's been buried at the back of a wardrobe for Christ knows how long but it IS here. I think I wore it like twice before moving on to something more along these lines for the whole of about 2 days:

    As for the stigma, yeah it's kinda dumb but it's also sorta founded. You only have to look at some seriously cringe-worthy OKCupid profiles to see where people get it from, really.
    Hell if you want to see one in the wild just go into pretty much any Games Workshop. They aren't as prevailent as you might think but they do happen and it always seems to be the same kinds of people wearing them: your stereotypical neckbeard.
     
    you shouldn't wear fedoras unless you are: bruno mars, michael jackson or a confused 12 year old. if you have come to the realization that you do not fit into any of those three categories please stop at once. when i was 12 i owned a fedora (and it matched my grandma's so heck yeah for us) but it was a phase that no one should have to go through.
     
    If you're some smartass douche canoe then I'll know from talking to you, not by your hat. I'm not gonna judge you unless I know you.

    Unless you're wearing a turtle neck. Then we gotta problem.
