6th Gen Too many legendaries?

I've often felt this way, but playing AS has sort of reinforced this idea. It seems that everywhere I go I'm chasing another legendary from another trio, another myth. Originally I was okay with the addition of slightly mythical Pokémon who's existence was doubted, but now I feel like it's too much. How come this 10 year old kid (or whatever age you feel your character represents) ends up with so many of these one of a kind pokés which most grown adults haven't even decided if they're real or not?

It kind of annoys me that there are such a ridiculously high number of one offs - I'd rather see truly "legendary" pokémon that don't exist, as they are truly mythical. It seems a bit far fetched that Arceus creates the universe and then gets captured by a child.

I'd rather have more basic pokés to catch, with perhaps slight individual differences to make them stand out from themselves, over catching 50+ one time only legendary beings.

Well, XY didn't have many legendaries (only having the XYZ and bird trios, as well as Mewtwo) so it had to make sense that ORAS included all the others that weren't in XY, because Game Freak were going for an approach to have legit 6th Gen non-mythical legendaries with the blue pentagon since some tournaments are restricted to said pentagon, which also explains why all the non-legendaries are also available by trading between all 6th Gen main series games.

I guess that explains a bit, but it doesn't really help with this feeling that something like 15% of the animals in our world are associated with some myth

I personally dont like legendaries, they cant be bred are often rubbish statrs/nature (unless you can be bothered to SR for ages) and cant be used for maison anyway because their base stats are overpowered.

I'd much prefer they remove legendary/mythical for the most part and just introduce ultra rare species.

Take Mew for exmaple, as far as im aware Mew isnt a specific pokemon its part of an ancient species, so this should mean it should be breedable and rather than having huge stats it should have one trait that makes it special whether a new amazing ability, a singular special attack or in the case of Mew the ability to learn all TM's/HM's.

I kind of agree... I like Mew as a legendary - it should have elevated status given its rarity, but there should be a way to get it in game. However, ORAS seems to have way too many pokés that can be obtained in one specific location at the right time :/

I definitely think there's a few too many legendaries--I think they went a little overboard with them in 4th and 5th gen in particular, but 6th gen seems to be scaling that back a bit (in terms of the number of legendaries introduced, that is). Of course, OR/AS has pretty much all of them (except for the bird trio and the XYZ trio), but like Hikamaru said, that's because they needed to have all of them available with the pentagon symbol.

Regarding there being too many legendaries in OR/AS in particular, bladeofmist made a really good point a while back.

And am i the only person who felt like this game practically just handed us all the legendary Pokémon? I wish they were at least somewhat of a challenge to obtain rather than just flying to an island and sticking your hand in a portal....

I feel like putting so many legendaries in one game may have been overkill (necessary though it was), but it does feel like the game just hands them to you a bit, with the whole "go to random island, enter portal" thing. I still had fun catching them though, of course ^^

I guess my issue with it is partially how you obtain them all... Like you said, find the island and enter the portal.

The other part of the issue though, is given the relative importance of some pokémon (again, for example, Arceus) and how they have gone uncaptured for so long and then all of a sudden one kid comes along and snatches them all up.

I don't think any of the Gym Leaders, for instance, would necessarily be trusted to catch those. Obviously the game's developers were expecting the player to be someone that stands out in the game-world, rather than just going along with things, settling down and being ordinary. Which would not make for a particularly interesting player. The game is about Pokémon, anyway, the player character's specifications don't determine most of the game, let alone the important characteristics of it, they just signify that they can begin with Pokémon, and that younger people are not excluded from it.

Anyway, though, it does seem true that there are too many legendaries with too little attention given to making them stand out or be notable. Just having 'legendaries' who can be caught by showing up in the right place makes them seen akin to normal Pokémon, in that sphere, but less common while easier to find. You'd presumably want them to have some relevance to the game, if they are to re-appear in it, in some form.

If you meant the whole franchise? I disagree. Every regions should have their own myths, lore and that. It would be unfair if we are pointing at the whole franchise.

However, if you meant the amount of post-game legendary in ORAS. Then the answer is hell yeah, it felt too forced even though the reasoning with Hoopa is valid and solid. At the very least they should have left out the Gen V legendary Pokemon. :/

Meh. R/S/E/OR/AS doesn't have much in the way of post-game even with the inclusion of the delta episode, so I think hunting down all these legendaries is an interesting thing to do. I don't really see the problem with it.

That being said, many of the legendaries themselves are fairly boring.

I never complained about the too many legendaries aspect; I consider catching them as something to do in post-game.

I personally really enjoyed hunting them all down after I finished ORAS. Then again, I'm not that into the competitive battle scene so there wasn't much else to do after completing the Delta episode.

Still, I'm a bit of a hoarder so I'm perfectly happy filling my boxes with more and more legendaries.
