News: Trademarks hint at identity of Pokémon Sun and Moon Mascots

Talk about a mood swing in the Land of Nerd-dom; reeling from last night's Agents of SHIELD episode and I log on to discover this happening.{XD}

Even though these trademarks were first discovered 2 months ago, I feel like we're getting closer to hearing something sooner about the boxart Legendaries before CoroCoro comes out next month. Even though the companies typically associated with Pokemon aren't the source for this, it may be worth something because otherwise I don't think Joe Serebii wouldn't have posted it... even weirder that he waited two months to post about it. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought of the possible lion reference. I think even a Fire/Fairy lion would be awesome.
 
"Nyabby" makes me think of a cross between a cat and crab. (because of the "nya" and sounding a bit like Krabby)

If the water starter is a crab with a cats head I'm so picking it.
 
Lion would be so, so boring and obvious. Game Freak is more creative than this.

In Spanish, Gáleo is a type of shark, so you know what would be better than some boring fire lion?

Also Sun Sharks are technically real :) Look up basking shark, a popular name for it is "Sun Fish".

The romanji on some of those seem off. Yabb should be Yabii. As for the choopu in front of Rshadow is odd...I have never seen that done. Usually it's used to make the sound long, but it's at the end of the character like in the case of the bi in Yabii. If they wanted an R sound I imagine they'll used 'ra' (if the way I'm thinking Rshadow is correct). I also doubt it's the similar looking Kanji for 'ichi' one, as Kanji isn't used for Pokemon names, plus the kanji for one doesn't have a reading of 'r' (that I'm aware of)

Not really off. A long "a" sound is commonly used for an "ar" sound. Like, for instance, Mario Kart which in Japanese is マリオカート or MARIO KAATO.

I'll agree that NYABBY doesn't follow the typical pattern. A completely straight transliteration of ニャビー would normally be NYABII, but the way they translate the names ソルガレオ and ルナアーラ as "Solgaleo" and "Lunaala" is also nonstandard since they would normally be written as SORUGAREO and RUNAAARA (yes, three A's). But if we assume that the names are based on some non-Japanese word, for instance "tabby", then it makes sense that when it is translated back it would use a non-standard spelling.
 
A fire lion is boring/really safe/cliche, but I do think it has the potential to be really cool if they pull it off. I imagine it'll look super majestic, with it's mane in the shape of the symbol in the sun logo.

He didn't wait. It's just that it took whoever found them 2 months to find them. I'm hoping it'll be a griffin instead of another fire lion mon.

Opps, my computer seems to have cut out the Ni and A, so I thought it was only Yabii and Shadow xD. That's why I was confused by the Rshadow, but it makes sense now.

Yes, the guy claiming the animal bases was doing just that. He could be right and it makes sense( except for the water and fire ones), but we can't say for sure. What people have figured out if that it's fire something for the nyabby. The second part of the word has people confused, as it seems to be hard to fully translate based on what I've seen across sites. I could see cat/ tiger in the rock thing, but it looks more rabbitish to me.

The water one fits the translation for the supposed water starter. It' come out as round, and people believe the second part to be a variation of the word seal. Which that kind of looks like. As I said before though, I think the grass owl(if these are real that is) had it's designed finished, hence full coloring, and the other weren't final sketches, but were close.

Where are these again? Nyabby sounds like it'll be a cat. A tabby cat that is.So that might not be the fire starter's name if the starter is a Rabbit/Bunny.

He theorized it might be the 'earth' legendary. Thinking about it rica is the feminine form of rico, which is spanish for 'rich/ tasty'. And Giga is greek or latin for 'big/huge'. Hmm, Rico...Puerto Rico...
Rika also sounds similar to riku, japanese for 'land'Edit: Wait, it was Gigareki. Reki makes me think of destruction as it sound like reckt.

If you saw the video then the names are there, but if you'd like, I'll upload the picture of them.

It's not fully confirmed to be cat or tiger, just speculated. Nyabby is apparently hard for people to make a full translation with how it's setup. The rabbit could still somehow be a cat, but I doubt it. It could work but we'd need the final design first.

I've seen Gigarka. Somewhere on here speculated that it was giga energy andcould actually be a new mechanic, in which it's synergy like in pokken. Which could work as they were asked if shadow mewtwo was cannon, but would not comment on it. Which is odd as they make sure to tell people when spinoffs are just that...

After the way that it has turned out for Zygarde in-game wise so far, I'm starting to hope that these trademarks aren't true. By that, I'm meaning that if they're going to start throwing away the Trio Master of the Legendaries without any potential in-game plot, then I prefer that they start keeping them at Duos from now on... or at least pull a Delta Episode if they continue to give us Trio Masters that have potential for an in-game plot.
 
Ashi in Ashimaru could stand for Bright (as in light). Maru is a suffix for names, usually used by males like Shikamaru, Orochimaru, etc. Ashi can also mean reed (the plant). So it could be the any of the three based on the name.
 
The name Gigareki has the word "gareki" in it which means rubble or wreckage. So, it's a big wreck.

Wasn't it Ashimari? "Ashi" is the word for food/leg. (Where are you getting 'bright' from?) "Shima" is the word for island or stripe. (They're homophones) "Mari" could be short for marine (or a similar word). Could be watery. "Shimari" is the stem form of the verb "close" or "shut". A dictionary search also shows me that the word for chipmunk is "shimarisu". Not sure how all these could fit together.

Ashi is a reading for the first kanji in the word tomorrow, 'Ashita'. The kanji by itself can be read as 'bright'.

Another rodent (I think Chespin is based on a chipmuck too, at least name wise) , possibly, huh? Well we did get two flightless birds in a row.
 
Well , I want the firecat "Nyabby" to be true if its get caught by Ash since he doesn't any feline or canine pokemon.
Plus , A "Fire Tiger" seem a such better starter idea then another bipedal fire pokemon.
 
Nyabby eh? I don't know where this one came from, but it seems like a Pokemon with a name like that could easily be another cat-based Pokemon and we can never get enough cat Pokemon.

Also, the name Ashimaru seems to remind me too much of Oshawott and Dewott's Japanese names, likely because they also end in "maru".
