I had a thought before and then someone brought it up the other day in another thread, why don't we take the Pokemon trading card forum and fuse it together with tabletop and the other popular trading card games and then put it in an all new forum called Traditional Gaming? It's just a suggestion, but it would encompass things like pokemon, magic, yu gi oh, werewolf, mafia, people searching to create other tabletop type stuff, and all the other fun stuff that I haven't listed. Stuff like werewolf and mafia might actually end up getting followed through with and seen if they are somewhere where they won't get buried moments after they're created.

If there's enough interest for it, I'd support it. It all comes down to whether or not it would attract enough traffic. Just by looking at the existing forum, it's definitely not the most active forum on PC, which begs the question of whether or not there would be a significant boost in activity by creating this (which I believe there's a lot of potential, just depends really on how it will be received by PC.)

this seems like a good idea
i'd prefer the title alternate gaming myself but i think the only issues are activity/where it would be placed

making such a idea a subforum, considering the original 'traditional gaming' forum (the one with yugioh and d&d and w/e) was beyond dead, is almost certainly condemning it to death before it's even born
and i don't know if it's important enough to warrant a forum of its own
    then again
    a) if it were to be made a subforum, it'd be placed in a now highly active video games section, something which was lacking during the original forum's existence
    b) the inclusion of the pokemon tcg would provide an extra spark, though i know nothing about that section

Mafia and Werewolf both technically belong in forum games, but I can see your point about them being buried quickly.

If we were to fuse those then we'd need to have a reason for activity, like El just said. As fun as board games are, it's not easily something you can do online, unless it's chess or some such. And as fun as Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic are, aside from a few topics, there isn't too much to talk about, and RPGs would be too easy to cheat in. (Inner D&D fan crys a little)

The idea of a nice Traditional Game Lounge section is definitely one I can roll with, though. Forum Games is really, really spammy. Not that that's a bad thing, but endlessly posting reasons for people to be banned isn't very fun in my humble opinion.

    Traditional Game Lounge, best name

There's actually quite a few sites out there for d&d where the dm can see all your rolls and such and it's usually also got webcams. The traditional/alternate games forum would probably fit best in entertainment and hobbies. I know there's a couple of sites where you can play things like monopoly online as well so it's not just games that would last a while. We could have weekly game nights and stuff. There'd be speculation thread, help and rate threads for decks, news, manuals and guides, maybe somewhere to put concept art. There's a lot that could potentially be done, even without possibly stepping on the toes of other sections.

We actually had a Tabletop Gaming section a few years that got killed off due to a serious lack of activity, one worse than TCG ever has been.

I suspect that merging TCG into a hypothetical TG section would probably harm activity in TCG and in the hypothetical section in the long run, as there'd be no focus on any one tabletop game, and people coming here looking specifically for a Pokemon TCG section would be turned away because they couldn't find anything on the Pokemon TCG by looking on the index (there's the description, of course, but how many of you actually read those?).

A standalone TG section would probably require a lot of TLC to get off the ground. People here do play tabletop games, but most of those people discuss them elsewhere.

I'd say it might have about a month where things are a bit rocky, but after a little bit things should start getting smoother. I don't foresee it getting really cluttered either, there'd be a bit of signup type things and then there'd be threads for each cycle of whatever game people are playing. And there's more members here now than there were then, and I would think that if we had somewhere that you could go specifically to talk about those kinds of things then we should get more activity. Like, why have 1 or 2 goldfish in 5 or 6 tanks when you could get a bigger better tank and put them all in there together? That's kinda what PC is, a bigger better tank.

Of course I wasn't here when we had the last version of this idea so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

I'd stop into such a forum now and again to discuss deck building, strategy, planes, and color philosophies relating to MtG.

I'm the rare exception that plays a lot but only hangs out in this forum. Perhaps our needs would be better served by a club or clubs?

Clubs would be useful for Mtg, yu gi oh, and dnd, but the tg forum would range from those things to random get together type things like poker, uno, and CAH card game wise and then again things like werewolf and mafia would also be present. Which is why it's Traditional gaming, not just trading card games general, there's a pretty good chunk of stuff that it would encompass.

For the sake of support for the idea, I'd like to voice my disappointment, again, in the forum games section. The mods are lovely people there, and I'm not trying to pin blame on anyone... but it's really not a very conducive place for forum games that do what forum games should do. Bring people together and create new relations, that is to say.

It's a bothersome thing, to be honest, because FG is a fun forum to hang out in. But I personally have made and played forum games before that bring people together from all over the site, and the atmosphere, for lack of a better word, in there doesn't leave me inclined to. I don't feel like it can really nurture something that's deeper than a post by post based game, like "Rate the Avatar".
I can understand the point of forum games being a more relaxed place in general, but relaxed doesn't have to mean sloppy. Why are there three threads based on avatar/signature ratings? Why are there two general chat threads? (dLtMs0, and Count to ∞)

If we made a section where games like Mafia, Forum Truth or Dare, and Who-Dun-It? could thrive, then it would be really cool.

Some people here have mentioned being worried about a lack of activity, and that would be one of the biggest obstacles to overcome. Hell, even the FF&W section is mostly dead. My suggestion would be to maybe have a forum announcement and a poll, to see how many people would be interested or frequent such a place. To make it a democratic thing.

I'm really curious what the S-Mods, and Admins think, though. They'll be the ones doing most of the work in setting up the forum, finding mods for it, and keeping it properly guided in it's early stages. Not to mention the coding affiliated with it. donavannj should also rightfully have a say in it, since they're the current mod of PTCG.

As with other forums around here that don't get as much attention as they should, they're a labor of love for the people who mod them and the people who do post there often. And as far as the modding goes I had no intentions of trying to say we just take away all rights to ptcg that donavannj has, and if anyone thought that I'm sorry. I would expect that if we were to go about reforming one forum into something else or something more the current mod would be allowed to shift his moderation over to the new forum unless they for some reason either didn't want to mod it or didn't want it. And I don't know how things work but I would assume that if he was totally against it then a trusted mod who's been a member here for almost 10 years would probably rule out over the group of people who do want it to happen and might not have been around to see what happened the last time we had something like this. But I dunno. We'll see what happens.

As someone who has been getting more and more interesting in tabletop gaming, I would support something like this.

The problem, though, as said is getting enough people interesting and I think the last forum died due to lack of interest.

If we do go forward with making a new one, I wouldn't mind moderating.
