I'll be honest, I had COMPLETELY forgotten about this

I had actually started it back a year ago, but got tired because artblock lmao

so this log will pretty much just be a hazy memory of what I remembered since I didnt keep notes

Log 1:

Everything goes per usual up until the catching tutorial, Where I immediately got my Purrloin, nicknamed "Alaska", a fitting sassy nature for the little fiend (Although not that good for her speed,,). Until the first gym, all else went as a normal playthrough, although I knew because of Purrloin's weak defense, I had to grind, and grind I did. Until level 15. (Because I thought I had turned on Challenge Mode until I notice I hadn't when I battled Cheren)

First gym: This actually took a lot of tries, to the point I ran out of money and potions, I think I got lucky because even with Pursuit and Fury Swipes, that Lilipup is an absolute monster with the constant work-up, and most of the time, the Patrat had hurt Alaska by a lot. Lucky attacks and constant reloads to save potions later, the Basic Badge was mine.

Nothing really happened up until Virbank City, grabbed the Silk Scarf so Return gets boosted (So happy I got an actual attacking move,,) and I trained until Alaska evolved into a Liepard (Lvl. 20) because Roxie's Whirlpede scares me.

Second Gym: Luckilly nothing much really happened, Turns out neither mons had anything strong to strike Alaska and Return spam made quick work of them. Toxic Badge optained.

Same thing, just followed the story, finally got access to the artist, but I haven't caught any mons until now so I didn't really had anything.. Trained up until around lvl. 25-26 because...you know, Leavanny.

Third Gym: I can't recall much on this, I think Return really helped me on this, Leavanny was quite terrifying, Struggle Bug and Razor Leaf still does a lot of damage..

Trainer:
Due to how in-tune your Pokemon have become with ghosts and the afterlife, they all must have one Ghost move and keep it throughout. Furthermore, due to the negativity stigma surrounding your trainer class, a lot of trainers are more likely to flee away. As such, any avoidable trainers must be avoided if possible. Obviously not every avoidable trainer is easy to avoid so just avoid as many as possible. Finally, make sure to tip the man in the haunted house telling the spooky story. Due to your interest in the afterlife, the story must have resonated with you.

Optional Trainer Mission:
If you plan on doing update posts, write up a short little memorial post for the ace Pokemon of any important trainers that you faint.

Meowstic:
Meowstic has been your loyal pet throughout the majority of your lifetime. Due to its overall intelligence, it must lead the front of the party in order to lead the way throughout the region. Furthermore, after every important battle, your Meowstic should be tended to through Pokemon Amie.

Chandelure:
Your Chandelure has become a guide for spirits, helping to escort them into the afterlife. As such, your Chandelure is the only Pokemon that can faint Ghost type pokemon if it hasn't fainted. If it has fainted, then any of the other Pokemon can be used.

Garchomp:
Your Garchomp help with the burial of the bodies that come into your graveyard. As such, it must learn Dig as soon as possible and keep it on its moveset throughout the rest of the run

 

[Explorer of Time]

This looks very fun. I love the team. The only thing I'm not enthused about is the "no fighting avoidable trainers" rule, as it's going to be hard to keep track of who's a trainer and who's a non-trainer NPC for a game I don't know well. But I absolutely love the missions for the three pokemon on my team and I'm really, really excited.

(Currently playing Mono-Ground Gold right now, since I wasn't expecting a response so quickly. I'll probably finish that first, but I might start two games at once, because, again, your challenge is very cool.)

 

[Explorer of Time]

Graveyard Keeper Agnes: Update 1 (Vaniville Town -> Santalune City)

Since I can't get any of my Pokemon before the first gym, with two being from after the fourth and sixth gyms, I brought in Level 5 versions of each Pokemon under rule 5. My first battle against Shauna's Fennekin (I picked Froakie because it can learn every non-Fly HM in this game) ended with my Espurr fainting it in a 1v1 duel. Over through Santalune Forest and Route 3, I leveled my three Pokemon up to around Level 8-ish. Litwick's early Ghost typing completely shuts down the early normal-type trainers, making it extremely useful at this stage of the game. Gible, an early Pseudo-Legendary, has been even more powerful at this stage of the game, learning Dragon Rage at level seven. While this move is useless at the levels you normally obtain it at, right now it'll OHKO literally anything that isn't a Fairy type.

Viola was very easy. I ended up fighting her Surskit with my Espurr because I wanted some challenge, and it ended up with my Espurr nearly fainted when Surskit finally went down. Apparently it didn't even know any bug-type moves. Anyway, Vivillon, which I'm supposed to write a memorial post for... I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a memorial, so I'll just add in a description of the battle. When Vivillon was sent out, I switched to Litwick. It wasted most of its moves using Harden, which did nothing against my Fire Spin, and only used Infestation twice. I started off by using Confuse Ray, then Fire Spin. I tried using Smog once to poison it, but it hit me with Infestation and then got burned by Flame Body. It ended up hurting itself in it's confusion, while burnt, while taking Fire Spin damage, which finally fainted it. That being said, I hope to face it again in the Battle Chateau in the postgame, where Viola will have trained it up for a rematch.

Litwick has Astonish and Confuse Ray, both Ghost-Type moves, but Espurr and Gible can't learn their Ghost type moves yet, and Gible can't learn dig yet. Should I loan Gible (and Meowstic when it evolves because Espurr can't learn any Ghost-type moves) to my copy of Pokemon X to teach them the TMs for their mandatory moves, or should I wait until I get the TMs in this game?

Gardevoir: Because you're self-aware enough to know that you aren't the smartest trainer, you delegate most of your strategic planning to your Gardevoir, your smartest Pokemon. If Gardevoir is ever asleep, frozen, confused, or fainted, treat your other Pokemon as though they were under the effect of both Taunt and Torment until Gardevoir is recovered or the battle is over. Once you win a master-rank Smart contest, you'll have learned enough from your Gardevoir to no longer need its advice.

Mawile: Because neither of your other Pokemon looks particularly intimidating, Mawile must toughen up to scare off any potential threats to you or your other Pokemon. Teach it only Tough condition contest moves until it has proven itself by winning a master-rank Tough contest.

Spheal: As Spheal is arguably the cutest-looking Pokemon in existence, you must keep Spheal unevolved until it has won a master-rank Cute or Beauty contest. After that, it's your choice on whether to keep it as its adorable self or evolve it to make it better at battling.

The game of choice ended up being Pokémon Ruby
As for the pokémon chosen, i had to modify the starter pick from Mudkip to Spheal due to the latter being only obtainable around late game.

It was quite the walk in the park as a Level 5 Spheal (Which i named Pinby) already knows some devastating early game moves like Snow Powder and Water Gun.
Caught a Female Ralts at Level 5 (named Fantasica) and started to passive train her until Confusion popped up in her moveset, easily sweeped the Petalburg Forest and Roxanne at the Rustboro City Gym with Pinby and his Water Gun while using Fantasica for some of the fights in the Gym and in Route 116.

Then quickly moved on to Dewford Town to catch a Mawile where i must say, it took me around 30 Great Balls, in order to get the money for that i had to beat Brawly right as i arrived with Fantastica and Confusion with some Double Team setup while the first Machop was trying to setup Bulk Up. Also the name of the Mawile is Muville, caught at Level 10.

Arrived at Slateport City, dealt with the Team Magma issue in the museum and fought May in Route 110 with no major issue for Fantasica and a Double Team setup aside from Wailmer doing an occasional Water Gun dealing a ton of damage in between the countless Splash moves, Fantasica finally evolved into Kirlia after that.

So right now i'm on my way to Mauville City and more importantly, Verdanturf Town to receive my Contest Pass and start my Special Mission!

The person who originally started this challenge hasn't been on the site since last year. Since then, you just have to wait until someone else has a good idea for your team/missions, which can take quite a while. I've never played any of the Alola games and can't help come up with a challenge, but just be patient and someone else will get to yours eventually.
