We do have the word cake in Dutch, but it refers to something else.
Can't really show a pic atm due to inferior mobile browsers.

I had that wonderful chocolate pie I like so much today! It was great! Also, next T'oW Pizza vs Calzone!

I just found out that cheesecake is actually not really a cake. Scandalous! I had considered them one of the most reliable "cakes" because cheesecake is meant to be light and moist. However, it turns out that it's actually a hybrid between a cake and pie...which explains a lot for me.

I'm not sure which side I am now 🤔

In English there are quite a few terms of an endearment for our loved ones that are plays on the word pie. You can call someone a "sweetie pie" or "cutie pie" for instance. There's an old love song- Can't Help Myself that's about a man pining for a girl he describes as his "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch". You can even say that somebody is "nice as pie" to express what a pleasant person they are.

I'm not saying that we couldn't find a way to also use cake to show affection or describe someone kindly, but pie seems to be more associated with phrases like that.

A vote for pie is a vote to spread peace, love and all sorts of good vibes

Personally I've always considered it kinda creepy when a stranger uses words like sweetie pie and cutie pie, rather than seeing them as a term of endearment. Actually... if my parents or siblings would use them on me it would weird me out as well.... but we've never been that close lol. Might be different for a romantic relationship, but I've never been in one so I'll never know 😔

As for idioms:
The icing on the cake - something extra that makes a good thing even better. Clearly cake is already good, and can only be enhanced! 😏

When I opened Google I saw a picture taken from a blog about cooking, home and garden, featuring a rustic pie called a gallete. I'm not even a big fan of blueberries, but this looks yummy. I want to sink my teeth into that crust.

I have never had a gallete before, and it's supposed to be easy to make. I didn't get around to baking my pie this week, I made strawberry ice cream instead, but maybe destiny wanted me to save my flour for a gallete instead

I did a Google search, it can evidently be made with anything, i am seeing some stuffed with blackberries, pears, plums, any fruit you can think of. There also some nice savory ones that look like pizzas.

Has anybody ever eaten this before?

It seems like the only things the word cake are used for when aimed at a person are either something like 'hot cakes' or a reference to a person's large backside.
Kinda cringe ngl...

And I've never tried a galette before, but that one sure looks good! 🤤
