In Generation 3, Game Freak introduced the Doubles Format, and there was much rejoicing.

A lot of Pokémon that were kinda meh in Singles suddenly had a new life in Doubles by fulfilling a certain niche and there were a lot of different strategies and gimmicks you could use!

And it seems that from that point on GameFreak decided Singles don't really matter outside of the main campaign. In fact you can argue that the only reason the Singles format still exist is because it's easier for little kids (which are clearly Game Freak's target demographic) to comprehend.

So my questions are the following: do you like double battles? Would you like if the next core game had a doubles main campaign? Would you like another spinoff focused in doubles like Colosseum and XD?

I feel like one of the few who didn't click with them too much originally tbh. They were fun, but way back in their introduction I tended to just blast through the game with just my starter, and being forced to throw in a lv. 4 Zigzagoon along with it into a double battle was a little bleh. Nowadays I think I can handle them much better though! Especially in another Colo-like spinoff since that was part of what made it unique back in the day and since I never played I missed out!!

I don't mind them, but I don't build my team around double battles if that makes sense? I enjoy single battles the most, but a double battle here and there helps change things up and are fun. It could be interesting having a main stream game go with double battles as the standard, but that wouldn't be something that would draw me to buy the game.

I concur with this. Double battles are good every now and then, but I get tired of the format quickly.

i liked doubles when i was forced into them in the days of Pokemon Colosseum. nowadays, i rarely think about doubles because i'm so used to single battles.

I think Doubles are good when the game they are in is based around them, like Colosseum. I feel like the main series could have done a little better. Because they used it as an occasional gimmick I got annoyed whenever I ran into a Double battle. I remember trying to avoid Double battles in gen 3 as best as possible.

I think you can do a lot more strategic play in Double battles and it does not surprise me that VGC is Doubles only as a result. One thing that bugged me about Singles competitive was that at some point it always centered around certain threads which could only be resolved by banning something (the Smogon metas in particular).

I mean I like double battles, I do wish they'd come up a little more though. A modern game based around doubles would be great because I'd actually like to build a doubles based strategy team, but I'm too dumb for competitive. Also on a side note I love doubles but I also miss the hell out of Triple and Rotation battles :(

In casual playthroughs attacking enemies is my only strategy so I've never cared to actually use any of the synergy moves or mechanics you can do in double battles. I'd probably enjoy it more in competitive but I haven't done much of that.

Double Battles are pretty aight. i like the strategy of ganging up on one Pokemon at a time so it eventually turns into a 2v1, but that's also why i prefer just my own team do Doubles versus having an NPC buddy to tag with. usually i don't like their choices of moves lol.
