Anime/Manga uguu?

I lean Team Onondera because of 2 things:

1. Chitoge, while an interesting (and often fun) character, is extremely unnecessarily violent and abusive relationships are bad and that whole spiel. Plus, the two were forced into the relationship, and that doesn't sit well with me.

2. I actually want the author to try to write her character and give her more depth. That constant clamming up around Raku gets annoying extremely quickly after 70 chapters of it. Plus, maybe glasses wing-man and glasses wing-girl will get better character development of their own in the process aside from being wing-man and wing-girl.

Though glasses stalker guy is my least favorite character because he threatens a minor with death without hesitation (if he would come across a moment where his face was completely rearranged and then completely disappear from the story forever and not be brought back, it would probably be my favorite moment in the series).

Also, hi guys, I'm a book behind the American release having finished the first 7 volumes and being lazy about getting around to the 8th volume, which I've had in my possession for a couple months. I have not watched the anime, so I'm not sure if the anime is farther along than I am or not.

On a wider scale, Rei is probably popular because people seem to be into those shy, emotionless types. It's at least easier to understand than the strange Yuki Nagato obsession people have.

"She's like me! I have a chance!" is probably not an uncommon thought process regarding Rei, and a variant of that is probably applied regarding main series Yuki.
Spoiler:

Quiet, blue haired girl vs. Rambunctious Redhead- the former always wins out in popularity regardless of how well-developed they are.

After all, just look at Shiro from NGNL.

It can be pretty ridiculous, but it's the "She's like me! I have a chance!" logic that is so pervasive among introverted and awkward shut-in types that tend to dominate anime fanbases that leads to this.

Well, that and Asuka is kind of a total asshole to Shinji at times.

I'd like Shiro a lot better as a character if she weren't hypersexualized for an 11 year old.

I will understand the collective hive mind of anime fans on the internet, or that of select fandoms. I think I'm better off just being a filthy casual. xD
Trying to understand a hive mind is just asking for headaches.

Nico from Love Live could take a few notes from Azuza when it comes to fan popularity.
But Nico doesn't need to be popular. She already has a pairing.
Azu-nyan is still torn between Mio and Yui.

I didn't know people still lusted after a character from a franchise that's nearly 20 years old now. I thought these days it was all about moe girls or something?
Moe lolis!

Also, how is Rei more popular than Asuka? I've never understood this...
Kuudere > Tsundere, I guess?
But Shinji fapped to selected Asuka.

I guess I'll watch NGE after Index. Also, finally finished Nisekoi and now I'm torn between Chitoge and Onodera someone halp I've never felt this torn in a harem before.

Onodera is VERY, VERY plain tbh. She's too plain. And she's either in "DOUSHIOU??!?" or "Etto..." mode at all times. Which is boring imo. Also she's got nothing on BESTGRILL's oppai.

The last episode of the anime was adapted from the second last chapter of Volume 7 (I think) so you're ever so slightly still ahead of the anime.

Is the manga good? I've been considering reading it since the anime misses some chapters and since the manga is so far ahead.

re: nisekoi conversation

Chitoge is cuter, and that's my two cents on the matter. ~w~

LOL true that. he needs to be specific. XD

either way, it'll all come down to onodera and chitoge in the end. And I think this is how it'll go at the end: Raku and Chitoge are finished with their three year old thing. They don't have any reasons for being together anymore. Then he's like, I'm free to go after Onodera, right? Till that point (hopefully) Onodera will have gathered enough courage to ask him out. They start going out. Then Raku realizes that he's actually missing something. Something feels off. And then he'll end up telling Onodera that his feelings for her resemble those of a guy for his sister. And then he runs off into the sunset and ends up hitting Tsugumi's boobs. He's been in love with Tsugumi's oppai, he realizes. He will eventually marry the oppai and they'll live happily ever after.
No though swap tsugumi's oppai with Chitoge and you have a winrar.

Really, it's the author's lazy writing, having kind of boxed her into specific behavior patterns whenever she appears. Though generally harem series kinda have crap writing for most of the girls anyway because most authors aren't very good at building more than one or two specific character tropes.

It's... readable. Not a masterpiece by any means. Progress toward any sort of end is slow for a series that supposedly has a premise and an end goal. Plus, and this may just be because I've read all of Ken Akamatsu's works as well as many other romantic comedies early on when first picking up manga, I can see most of the gags coming from a mile away (it does subvert a few trope gags, but that's nothing new in the genre).

And then he'll end up telling Onodera that his feelings for her resemble those of a guy for his sister.

You lost me right here. This totally does not reconcile with Raku's awkward af bashful behavior around Kosaki. If you're gonna go the Tsugumi route, you need to do a couple of things: 1) deal with how glasses stalker dude won't kill Raku at the end of his "relationship" with Chitoge, and 2) rewrite Raku into a horny S.O.B. who focuses on boobs. Also, 3) writing off Raku's feelings for Onondera as like those of a guy for his sister is just really inconsistent with what will likely be his behavior toward her most of the series.

But, really, we'll probably get a vague ending to piss off everyone. :P

And it figures you'd base your choice on boobs. :P

Lmfao don I thought the whole oppai thing made it abundantly clear that I was kidding. I was serious till the part where I said he'd start missing something in life. But then I went crazy haha.

Anyway, this is what I think for real - he realizes that his love for plainodera was something he thought was love - he was just extremely fond of onodera because of how nice she was. But once they're together, he keeps thinking about the times he and chitoge have spent together. He just wouldn't have his mind off of chitoge. And then he, after a lot of difficulties, faces his real feelings and confesses to onodera that he does really like her but the only person with a special place in his heart is for chitoge - a place she has created over the course of the past three years they were together.

But the more I think about it from a financial point of view, the more I have doubts. Like you said, we'll probably get some vague ending to avoid pissing off fans from the camps that end up losing the best girl war. :p

Also it is cool how even Obama is aware of stuff like anime. Just goes to show the medium has quite a bit of penetration.

I just finished my Death Note re-watch...it's interesting how your perspective on a show changes after you've not seen it for years. You already know what's coming, but you spot little things you missed.

...doesn't change my scoring though; the second half is still complete bullshit and so obviously contrived because of morality issues with Light's way of doing things. Bah. That aspect was what drew me to the anime when I first saw it, and I hate how it ended.

On the current topic, I've seen Nisekoi DVDs on Amazon...the price is a bit steep for ten episodes, and it's not released until July anyway, but...oh god, do I really want to buy it? The show is good enough to warrant supporting the official release from me, but I'm terrified of who they'll use in the dub voice cast; I get a horrible feeling they'll make as big of a mess of it as they did with Death Note and Gurren Lagann, to name but two that got butchered beyond belief. If Yuri Lowenthal voiced Raku I think I'd flip a table or three. Lord knows who they'd use for Chitoge...

Hey now, those two dubs standalone are actually pretty good.

Plus, nobody's forcing you to watch the dubs on the DVDs. Unless licensors do things differently in the UK, there's always subs on them, too.

I base my dub/sub on DVDs based on what kind of series it is. Moecrap? Sub. Shounen or Harem crap? Dub/sub don't matter. Series I will watch with friends? Go with majority, which is usually dubs because of accessibility for non-watchers.

If you do decide to get them, keep an eye out for a limited edition with bonus goodies.

This is true, but...my curiosity gets the better of me. I don't usually watch a show dubbed if I've watched it subbed beforehand, or vice versa. This might be why I disliked the two I mentioned in my earlier post, as I watched them dubbed second (although TTGL had Yuri Lowenthal in it, and I loathe his voice) but if I've got the DVD and it's got the dub on it as well, I usually give in to temptation. xD

Limited editions are too expensive for a penny-pinching pirate like me, aha. The Kill la Kill special edition box sets they've been releasing have been ridiculously overpriced for the number of episodes they've had on them, and the quality of the extra stuff doesn't justify the price either. I prefer to just wait for the complete boxset most of the time and pick that up, it's usually cheaper~

I don't remember them doing a bad job with either of those shows (Light's VA did a bang-up job, among others, and GurLag was good as well- heck, I think English Nia was better than Japanese Nia), and I don't see anything wrong with Yuri, he's one of the best male VAs in the dub biz (I don't think he'd fit Raku, nor do I see why they'd cast him, but I'd say he nailed it as Simon).
