Well, the E4 were disappointing. Will, on a practice battle, KOd two of my Mons, and on the real deal killed all but Tetrid II. Koga successfully killed Docori II. Karen and Bruno were defeated without casualty. Lance actually wasn't that hard, either.
After the E4, my first stop in Kanto was Celadon, where I grabbed Mito II (Grimer), my final team member, and gave him an EXP Share. I defeated Celadon Gym, then beat Vermillion Gym as well. I completed the Power Plant mission and taught Tetrid II Giga Drain and Ice Beam. I also got the Rail Pass.
Docori II the male Ariados (Johto MVP)
Psychic, Night Shade, Sludge Bomb, Dig
Daclus the male Crobat
Return, Wing Attack, Fly, Confuse Ray
Lang the Nidoking (E4 MVP)
Ice Punch, Thunderpunch, Thrash, EQ
Tetrid II the female Tentacruel (Honorable mention, surprisingly)
Surf, Ice Beam, Bubblebeam, Giga Drain
- I had to play through the first two gyms without an electric type since Mareep isn't in Crystal.
- Beat Falkner with Totodile (Rage! lol) and Bugsy with Rocky, the traded Onix.
- After I realized that Totdile and Onix were both OHKOs to Bayleef's Razor Leaf, I caught a Spearow to use against him, and beat Jack with it.
- When I got to Goldenrod, I hatched the Odd Egg like 20 times trying to get Elekid.
- Got one finally and named her Elektra. Taught her Ice Punch.
- Beat Whitney with Elektra, then headed to Ecruteak.
- Bypassed everything and went to Olivine. Elektra evolved into Electabuzz.
- Got a Good Rod and caught a Chinchou named Light.
- Went back and beat Jack in the Burned Tower and released the dogs.
- Beat the Kimono Girls and taught Surf to Light.
- Beat Morty pretty easily with Light, who evolved into Lanturn after the battle.
- Got Eevee from Bill, then bred a L5 Eevee so Jolteon could learn Thundershock. Named her Shock.
- Got a Thunderstone when Shock was at L12 and evolved her.
- Surfed to Cianwood City and taught Strength to Rocky.
- Beat Chuck pretty easily and taught Fly to a Farfetch'd I caught earlier.

Next up is Mahogony Town, Lake of Rage, and the Rocket Hideout.
Why no Ampharos!?!? You should have played through one where Amp was available! Seriously, when I did that challenge, I only used Amp and a Lanturn, and Amp was by far the most useful Electric type I've ever had.
My update: In Normal Platinum, I beat Wake, did stuff, and got to Celestic Town.

Meh, I wanted to play it with someone different. I've never used Electabuzz before, and have used Ampharos so many times it's not even funny.
Anyway, I completed Crystal in my Ground Monotype:
Final Update (#5) on Crystal.
I sped through Kanto in like a couple hours, if that (300% throttle plus speed button). I'm feeling lazy so I guess I'm not doing details lol.
One thing I will say is that this is the first time I have beaten Red without having to grind against the Elite Four. Main reason that happened is because Rocky is a trade, so more experience was available for the other two. I was even a little overleveled against Blue, which can be difficult to do during normal gameplay (with at least three members I would say. With just two it's a bit more feasible).

Earthquake, anyone?
*image removed*
Pushed through Espeon with Rocky, then was able to finish with Royal.
*image removed*
Easy peasy. Sweep with Rollout.
*image removed*
Thunderbolt, baby! (Got it before coming to Kanto from the move tutor)
*image removed*
Royal's Surfin' Kanto.
*image removed*
Rollout x5, then EQ'd Gengar.
*image removed*
Return was enough here - weak opponents...
*image removed*
Three Blind Surfs. Wait...what?
*image removed*
Best Kanto battle - lost once due to Gyarados Hydro Pumpin' me. Second time around, Gyarados was taken down by Thunderbolt, and then Surfed and Ice Punched the rest of the way.
- Taught Ice Beam to Royal, then used a couple Rare Candies on each member to bring them to L65 even. Time for Red!
*image removed*
I had to restart several times to get past Espeon. Here's what happened once I did:
Rocky VS Pikachu: Quick Attack, Earthquake, Pikachu fainted!
VS Espeon: Psychic, Earthquake, Psychic (6 HP left!), Earthquake, Espeon fainted!
VS Venusaur: Switch to Royal!
Royal VS Venusaur: (took in sunlight!), Ice Beam (frozen solid!), (frozen solid!), Ice Beam (frozen solid!), Full Restore (Rocky), (frozen solid!), Thunderbolt, Venusaur fainted!
VS Snorlax: Switch to Rocky!
Rocky VS Snorlax: Ammnesia, Earthquake, Body Slam (paralyzed!), (fully paralyzed!), Ammnesia, Earthquake, Body Slam (critical hit!), (fully paralyzed!), Rest, Earthquake (critical hit!), Snore, (fully paralyzed!), Snore (critical hit!), Earthquake, Snorlax fainted! Rocky grew to L66!
VS Charizard: Flamethrower, Rocky fainted!
Roland VS Charizard: Fire Spin, Rollout, Flamethrower, Rollout, Charizard fainted!
VS Blastoise: Surf, Roland fainted!
Royal VS Blastoise: Thunderbolt (critical hit!), Rain Dance, Thunderbolt (critical hit!), Blastoise fainted! PKMN Trainer Red was defeated!
Since I already did Hoenn on Ruby with Flygon, Swampert, and Camerupt, and got Zam's permission to use that as my Hoenn leg, I'm going straight to Sinnoh on Platinum.

Update for Ultimate Monotype Challenge (Fighting).
Final Update (#3) on Sapphire.
- Went diving, and beat up Team Aqua and Archie.
- Surfed around, beating most of the trainers I could, and got Return in Pacifidlog Town.
- Got to Sootopolis and killed Kyogre. Taught Brick Break to Pyre.
- Beat Wallace easily with Harriet.
- Surfed to Victory Road, then made it through pretty easily with my team at L47-48, beating Wally along the way.
- EV trained everyone and got Effort Ribbons.
- Grinded everyone to L51, then used some Rare candies to get everyone except Pyre to L54.
- Grinded Pyre to L53, then scraped enough money together to get Flamethrower at the Game Corner for Pyre.
- Took on the Elite Four after teaching Earthquake to Harriet and Return to Ares.
- Beat the Elite Four prett easily - Pheobe and Drake were to difficult ones this time around, and I lost to Drake once (Flying owns this team...)
- Used a Rare Candy on both Harriet and Breloom to get them to L55.
- Pushed through and beat Steven, mostly with Harriet, to become the champion!
Screens:
Spoiler:
Harriet got a couple Bulk Ups on Luvdisc, then pushed through confusion to OHKO everyone with Brick Break while surviving thanks to her high SpD.
- Here's the Elite Four!
Soloed with Pyre. Brick Break and Flamethrower.
This one was harder, as most of my more damaging moves are ineffective against ghosts.
Soloed with Pyre again. Flamethrower and Brick Break were all OHKOs.
Hardest fight of the bunch. Set up a few Bulk Ups with Harriet on Shelgon, then OHKOed Shelgon and both Flygons with Brick Break. Salamence then finished Harriet, and after Breloom damaged Salamence with Sky Uppercut while he was flying (then was OHKOed by Fly), Pyre finished off Salamence and then Altaria with Return.
And here was the grand finale. Makit beat Skarmory with Belly Drum + Vital Throw, then fell to Armaldo's Aerial Ace. Harriet then 2HKOed Armaldo with Earthquake after surviving Aerial Ace. I Full Restored Harriet while Claydol used Light Screen, then Megahorned Claydol's ass. Harriet then 2HKOed Metagross with Earthquake while taking a Meteor Mash, then OHKOed Cradily with Megahorn to finish the fight!
Time to party like it's...
Sinnoh is next on Platinum.
Team Norris (Final):
Harriet the Sassy Heracross, ♀ - L56 @ Soft Sand -> Steven MVP
Ability: Swarm
Moves: Earthquake, Megahorn, Brick Break, Bulk Up
Final Stats: 181/185/106/62/154/102
-Made it to Union Cave alive.
-Made it to Route 33 alive.
-Saw this Rocket Grunt abusing this innocent bystander. I thought they broke up 3 years ago?
-Went to Kurt's house and got him to break his back on the fall down the well.
-Beat up Team Rocket and their girly-looking boss.
-Freed the town and hatched my special egg. Inside it was a Pokemon I could only use as a very affective HM slave: Togepoop.
-Beat Bugsy and her stupid little bug worshipers.
-Beat Kamon (my rival)'s little butt yet again.
-Went into Ilex Forest and helped some guy catch his Farfetch'd(is he gonna eat 'em?...)and got HM 1-Cut from his dad? master? owner?
-Togepoop showed the crazy lady with powdered sugar all over her face and amnesia the way out.
-Trudged onward through Route 34, meeting Lyra's Grandpa and Grandma(who thinks I'm her boyfriend--no way. She's a collection of pixels.)
-Went to the bike shop and got a red bike from the weird guy. I hate red.
-Rode my shiny new bike to the Radio Tower, where I got all of the questions right and gotz myself a Radio Card. The stupid girl with pink hair went back to her gym.
-I beat up all of the stupid girl's trainer followers and Pokemon, but she didn't give me my badge until I walked away. What a rip.
-I went to Route 36 through Route 35 the quick way--chopping down even more trees.
-Beat some puny little trainers, a fake tree, and some more puny little trainers. I got into Ecruteak City.
-I went into the Pokemon Center where my newly evolved Haunter(yay!) was to be traded back and forth, evolving him yet again, into Gengar. (MORE YAY!)
-Went to the Burned Tower, met Eusine and Morty, and beat my rival, Kamon, again.
'At's 'bout it. Oh, and if you don't mind, I'll also be doing an Electric Ultimate Monotype--thought I'd challenge myself in three ways: 1.) A regular Monotype. 2.) An Ultimate Monotype. 3.) Both of them at once.
I'll go like this: Yellow-->Crystal-->Emerald-->Platinum-->Black. Thanks!
Poison Ruby: Beat Groudon, Wallace, and Wally. I tried an initial fight with Sydney, but didn't like it so I turned the game off. Don't know if I'm actually going to strategize, if I'm going to out Revive/Hyper Potion everyone, or if I'm going to suicide run the E4 some.
Edit: Dark Sapphire: Caught Kyogre (because I couldn't beat him...), beat Wallace and Wally. Bought lots of revives, Hyper potions, and full heals. E4 time!
Alright, hopefully my attention span will let me actually make it through this whole challenge without losing interest and dropping out. I'll be giving this a shot with water Pokemon starting with Blue then going; Soul Silver-Sapphire-Diamond-White.
I've got updates for my three monotypes (Electric, Ground, Fighting):
Electric: Update #2 on Crystal.
Spoiler:
- First I beat Jasmine.
- Then I went to the Lake of Rage, beat the Gyarados and talked to Lance.

- Got a call about the Radio Tower, so I headed there next.
- Beat Jack in the Underground, then defeated the last TR executive with Shock's Double Kick.
- Went through Ice Path and arrived in Blackthorn City.
Screens:

Elektra ThunderPunched Seel and Dewgong, then Light Surfed Piloswine.
- I played through the first two gyms with my Turtwig named Atlas.
- Caught Scythe the Gligar underneath Cycling Road, and Chomper the Gible in Wayward Cave. Both of them had Adamant natures, I couldn't believe it!
- Atlas was a Torterra by now as well.
- Chomper evolved into Gabite while I was training in Wayward Cave with Mira.
- Beat Fantina in Hearthome City thanks to Scythe's Faint Attack.
- Beat Jacen again as well.

In Wayward Cave.

Mach Punch 2HKOed Geodude and Onix while they used Defense Curl and Screech, then OHKOed Cranidos.
I'm back! Didn't wanna post until i finished my Fighting on platinum. And I just completed it. i Went into the E4 a tad under leveled. As is standard with Sinnoh, Lucian was a nightmare. Cynthia was a walk in the park though.
Final Team:
Infernape (lvl 55)
-Close Combat
-Flamethrower
-Brick Break
-Shadow Claw
solid. was easily ko'd though. there seemed to be an abundance of psychic, flying and things that knew aerial ace late in the game, making training him hard, and as a result he was the lowest level going into the E4
Machamp (lvl 59)
-Ice Punch
-Thunder Punch
-Earthquake
-Cross Chop
Definitely the MVP, she was essential for the E4 and many gyms.
Lucario (Lvl 55)
-Dark Pulse
-Flash Cannon
-Aura Sphere
-Psychic
wasn't as helpful as i thought. probably would have been better if i had leveled more before the E4
Got started in Blue and here's what I've done so far:
-Picked up Squirtle as my starter
-Grinded through the beginning of the game
-Got past the Viridian Forest and beat Brock
-Zoomed through Route 4 and got myself a Magikarp from the Magikarp salesman
-Squirtled evolved into Wartortle on this route
-Raised Magikarp a little through Mt.Moon
-Got to Cerulean City and beat Gary
-Made to Bill's house and got the SS Ticket
-Magikarp evolved into Gyarados on the way back to Cerulean
-Beat Misty and headed for Vermilion City
-Did all of the SS Anne stuff and caught a HM01 slave(Diglett)
-After many failed attempts, Lt.Surge finally made some CPU AI mistakes and I won against him
-Got through the Rock Tunnel and into Lavender Town where I helped Mr.Fuji
-Got the Poke Flute and took the long way to Fuschia instead of going to Celadon
-Caught a Staryu with the Super Rod on Route 19
-Took the cycling road to Celadon and evolved Staryu with a Water Stone
-Wartortle evolved into Blastoise on Cycling Road
- did a lot of uninteresting stuff
- beat Fantina's gym trainers, evolving Jetboat in the progress
VS Fantina
Spoiler:
- Beat Duskull with some Bubblebeam's from Mech Pengu. it cost me ca. 80% of Mech Pengus HP, but it did take out her Duskull and her only super potion.
- Her Mismagius was easily defeated by 2 Crunches from jet boat, through it took half its HP with Magical Leaf
- Jetboat had to beat Haunter too, after Barrel found itself unable to even get to do damage before it began hitting itself and then fall asleep.
- got the Good Rod
- Did something i had discounted even before i started on the game (All of you did now loose "the game"), I CAUGHT A FINNEON! :'O (For you who don't know, Lumineon is BAD) just because i thought "Havn't caught any team members with a rod yet in this ultimate" (Through its not real, i caught 2 members of my kanto and johto teams with rod)
So now my team suddenly looks like this:
Mech Pengu lv 27
Bubblebeam
Metal Claw
Grass Knot (For beating Waters)
Shadow Claw (Was the only one who could learn it)
Barrel lv 26 @Sothe Bell
Return
Water Gun
Rollout
Defence Curl (Actually useful due to Simple)
Jetboat lv 29
Crunch (Stronger than Aqua Jet + STAB)
Aqua Jet
Swift
Quick Attack
Nipsy lv 19 @EXP Share
Water Gun
Gust
Pound
Attract
Coincidentally they are on Pokedex order, the order i caught them in and the order i would call them my MVP from best to worst (The last wont last much longer since Jetboat has learnt Crunch now, but the other two will stand true for the rest of the challenge)
