Ultimate Monotype Challenge Thread

Just a quick update on my Bug monotype on Red because I feel lazy.

• Started the game.
• Went through the beginning stuff.
• Caught a Weedle and named it Jd.
• Caught a Caterpie and called it Sydian.
• Evolved Jd and Sydian into Beedrill and Butterfree respectively.
• Beat Brock.
• Caught a Paras in Mt. Moon and named it Myrrh.
• Beat my Rival again and helped Bill.
• Beat Misty.

The Team:

Sydian (Butterfree) Lv23.
Moves: Confusion, Supersonic, Tackle, Sleep Powder.

Update for Ultimate Monotype Challenge (Fighting).

Update #2 on Platinum.

- Caught a Machop named Spartan.
- Got through Valley Windworks and Eterna Forest to Eterna City.
- Beat Gardenia easily, then caught Champunch the Meditite.
- Beat the Eterna building, then headed to Hearthome. Spartan evolved into Machoke.
- Beat Fantina there with much difficulty, and beat Bruce afterwards.
- Went through Solaceon Town and caught Galahad the Ralts. Caught Starvaria for Defog. Galahad evolved into Kirlia.
- Fought my way to Veilstone City and then beat Maylene pretty easily.
- Helped Dawn get her Pokedex back and taught Fly to Starvaria.
- Went down to Pastoria City, where I found a Dawn Stone to evolve Galahad into Gallade. Taught him Leaf Blade and Night Slash with Heart Scales.
- Beat Bruce in front of the gym, then saved.

This one took several tries. Finally I taught Spartan Theif, and he was able to steal Mismagius' Sitrus Berry and take him down through confusion after Dante Tormented Mismagius.

Champunch won here with Hi Jump Kick OHKOing Lucario and 2HKOing Machoke after Dante took down Meditite.

Gonna beat Rt. 212, then face Crasher Wake.

Back from grinding my Sableye twins. Calamity (Physical Sableye) got up to 66, and Cataclysm (Special Sableye) got to 65. Here is the final elite four battle, fully logged. I could never get past Glacia before. Note: Calamity was holding a Black Belt and Cataclysm was holding a Mystic Water.

Triple Update

First, the Crystal leg of my now-ultimate electric type challenge (i beat yellow a while back)

This battle went PERFECTLY. Electabuzz got two headbutt flinches in a row on the first dragonair and a quick attack put it out. beat the other two by confusing them with lanturn and surfing them. they always hit themselves. electrode self destructed on kingdra and a jolteon shadow ball put it out. perfect.

Good lord. This was like the worst challenge I've ever done. Blue was a little justified once I got my Parasect and became megabros with him. Silver was not ever justified.
And finally, a bug run on red. no ultimate here for the time being, just feel like having some fun while also not having a walk in the park
This one was worse than the Grass one. I tried a Parasect/Venomoth duo run. Not something you should do.

Obviously, bold and not what you said was me...

In relevant news, I've decided now to begin Ultimate Normal: Hoenn Edition! From now on, every one of my challenges will be part of an Ultimate Challenge, and not just random monos I feel like doing.

I actually like electrode. He worked well for me in a Random ruby challenge. plus ampharos is in crystal. electabuzz takes its place well IMHO.

and as for the grass, it has been... tedious, but not unenjoyable.

I do recall about the last third of Grass Johto being all right, because by then Meganium could OHKO everything with Razor Leaf or Body Slam or EQ (I think it could learn EQ, and if it could, mine had it...)

Any advise for Roxanne? I have a Tailow and Zigzagoon, but I mean, there's no attack that isn't NVE. I was thinking of using Ziggy to try to get lucky with Sand Attacks, then Growl at him and Tail Whip him and then try Headbutting. Is this like the only thing you can do?

Caught mah Nidoran, named her Queen, Then trained to the max for an epic battle against Whitney (double kick spam). Advanced to Ecruteak town. After realizing my only effective move on Morty is rock throw, I left to go attempt to catch a Sandshrew, but encountered a Wooper in Union cave and caught that instead. While grinding it, Rocky gained a few levels so I challenged Morty and, surprisingly, won. Now I'm on the way to Olivine city.

I also am doing a quick Ice run on Red, it's my next ult mono.

You bet I am playing on Ruby. My final team (which is going have four, ugh, I usually have 2-3) is going to be Swellow, Zangoose, and 2 Exploud.

Also lol, that is my exact team for my Red Ice run. I started with Seel and everything.

-Named myself Jack(I don't know, it just came to mind)
-Tried to escape my grey, boring town, but Professor Oak stopped me and showed me his mad catching skillz--he caught a Pikachu without doing anything! :O
-Beat my rival's sorry little butt with a couple of thundershocks.
-Went to Viridian City where an odd man gave me an odd package for Professor Oak. It was the same size a bomb. Hm...
-Gave Professor Oak his parcel and got...nothing, really. Actually, my freedom got taken away. I can't do whatever I want. I have to challenge the gyms "in order" and "fill the Pokedex 'cause I'm too old and lazy." All I wanted was a Pokemon, old man!
-Passed through Viridian City again and got...a lesson on how to catch Pokemon. Geez, old guy I don't know who apparently needed coffee.
-Took a stroll through Viridian Forest and stole some little kids money. By squashing their bugs.
-Beat Brock's and his Jr. Trainer's butts with a whole lot of Double Teams, Tail Whips and Quick Attacks.
-Beat all trainers on the way to Mt. Moon. Saved in the Pokemon Center.

Ultimate Water Platinum:

Not much progress here, i've gone from hearthome to veilstone, training Nipsy the Finneon on the way (Where were my thoughts when i nicknamed it?)

Ultimate Bug Emerald:

I'm really in a mood for adding useless members to my teams these days, Yesterday a Finneon, today a Shedinja. I thought it could be handy in the next gym, as they only can hurt it with Supersonic, and now i suddenly have another unexpected team member.

- I've gone from dewford to mauvile without problems, and am now training for the gym
- somewere on the way Speed Bug evolved to the Ninjask Speed Bug and the Shedinja Dead Bug

Final Update (#3) on Crystal.

- Went from beating Clair in Blackthorn all the way through the Elite Four and Kanto to beat Red!

Shock took out Gyarados with Thundershock, Elektra took out the 3 Dragonites with Ice Punch, and Light took care of Aerodactyl and Charizard with Surf.

- Got everyone to L60 (2 Rare Candies on each one helped) - no E4 grinding necessary - then took on Red.

Spark took down Pikachu and Espeon with 2 Thunders each, then fell to Snorlax. Elektra took Snorlax out with a couple Returns thanks to Iron Tail lowering Snorlax's defense. Then he was able to take Venusaur out with 2 Psychics and an Ice Punch. Elektra fell to Blastoise when Thunder failed to OHKO him. Light came in and finished off Blastoise with Thunderbolt, then 2HKOed Charizard with Surf to win!

Gonna do Hoenn on Sapphire. Lol. Team Aqua is gonna be cake.

If you are doing a Normal Run, then unfortunately you are not allowed to hack anyone in, as there are plenty of normal types obtainable early in the game. You also cannot hack in order to make them appear as traded.
