Unexplained Fears

I have a fear of tornado sirens.
Not the storms, mind you. I've gotten used to those, living in the midwest all my life.

I have a fear of the thing that forewarns us about the storms, the outdoor warning sirens.
It didn't start that long ago either, maybe only two years ago or so.
I didn't grow up fearing them (although they would startle me when they'd go off for testing) or fearing an event that would prompt them to be sounded (i.e. Cold War, I was born after the Soviet Union dissolved) and, again, I've lived through several tornadoes (one yesterday!).
And this doesn't extend to emergency responder sirens on vehicles, just the ones sitting on telephone poles at the side of a street or by your local fire department.

    Spoiler:

    It's something about the sound.

It's more that just annoyance or discomfort by association to a terrible or unforeseen event.
They are the danger for me. The thing that bothered me yesterday wasn't the storm about to hit, it was anticipating the siren that was to tell of it.

Does anyone else have an oddly specific fear? Or perhaps.. The same fear I do?

I guess I have a few oddly specific fears, although in my mind at least they have perfect context...if they didn't, then I probably wouldn't be afraid of them.

Maybe it's something to do with associating the sound with giant murder vortexes? As for myself, I have things that completely terrify me but nothing oddly specific.

Impending doom or something like that.
I have a few ideas as to where it may stem from, but they're all dream-based and not really trauma-related.

Not my biggest fear, but Mimes makes me uncomfortables. If one will creep on me or mimic me I will probably just scream and hit him. *Looking at you, Mr. Mime*

Oh and algae in the sea. I don't mind it dry or in a soup but if I have to step a foot in those I will lose my sh*t.

Both mimes and dolls and mime dolls are creepy.

But for me, probably onions? I'm so scared of finding onions in my food.

As odd as it may sound, the sea terrifies me.
I feel like I'm drowning every time I try to take a step further in the water.

No, I can totally get you there.
I've been on a number of cruises and I'm always afraid to stand too close to the railing in fear of either dropping something or falling into the ocean.
It gets really windy on those things, it's absolutely terrifying.

i can explain it, so its not exactly unexplained, but i have a fear of leaving doors cracked at night. Especially my closet. the door to my room doesnt have to be locked, and i prefer it not.

Cracked doors or windows really get me. I always need them closed or I can't sleep. It's not like scared of the dark or anything...it's just the void I see in those unclosed doors.

absolutely terrified of the thought of being pregnant. it doesn't stem from anywhere - i've never had a pregnancy scare and no one in my family has had a particularly terrible one, it just ... terrifies me. the entire process, and the inevitable childbirth. i'm not squeamish, against the idea of having kids, or classically-immature either so... it's kinda inexplicable. : - (

These fears arent really unexplained, it's just. Submechanophobia

Are you scared of water / swimming in general? I used to be absolutely terrified of swimming - would still rather avoid it wherever possible today too. No particular reason, as far as I know.

Okay I don't know why I haven't wrote this one but seeing a pregnent woman makes me tuck in my belly inside I don't even know why :o

I'm also afraid of spiders and bugs, which is a pretty common fear, but I always thought it was kind of irrational since they aren't actually harmful. And where I live, we really don't get any monstrous, poisonous bugs or anything, but I'm literally shaking even at the sight of like an ant in my home or tiny spiders, and I just can't explain it.
