Yep, an unpopular opinions thread, but not for Pokemon as a whole, but just regarding Pokemon gaming. Now let's share some takes regarding playstyles and whatnot regarding Pokemon battling that we feel not many others would think of. And please, do not attack other users just because you don't agree with them. Other forum rules still apply
now as for mine:
-I see that in playthroughs people tend to spend way too many turns buffing their mons up with moves and stuff and... I really don't like that. I mean I do that too sometimes, but constantly wasting turns increasing your stats just leaves you vulnerable to getting critted or whatnot, and if they faint all your work goes to waste. Whenever I do that, I make sure that it wouldn't be that a crit or surprise attack takes my mon out. I guess it's not bad in competitive, but when watching any kind of playthrough of Pokemon and watching noobs constantly use stat boosters and leave their mons at risk greatly bugs me. I know I'm starting to sound like a conservation officer here, but I just can't stand it. In fact, why not just send in something that straight out can deal with the opponent rather than just throw in something that cannot and just overbuff it while risking it?
-Hyper beam is terrible, overrated, and i hate it more than ever for breaking a randomised Nuzlocke I just got back into. Easily my least favourite move behind Destiny bond. With Hyper beam, chances are it just leaves you vulnerable if you can't kill the opponent and it's just too strong when the opponent uses it. I will never use that horrendous cesspool of an attack again unless I have something that is greatly lacking in Normal STAB or moves in general. Honestly, they should just remove Hyper beam from the game and make Tri attack or Hyper voice or even a new cool Normal attack and make it that most mons can learn them. I can't think of one time Hyper beam has ever impressed me, it really has caused me more trouble than it has helped. Once again, I just loathe Hyper beam, that hellhole of a move.
