Ash was a great character to begin with & had great potential to grow, but GF really messed up, stunted his growth & kept him a child all throughout.

Game Freak have no involvement with the anime. Though in Sun & Moon, the Ash-Greninja you were able to get in the SM Demo had the OT name "Ash" so that may be a shout-out of sorts.

Well Game Freak's name appears in the end credits. They have to be involved with the anime in some way, they would have to legalize the whole thing isn't it?

Greninja sucks btw, Ash-Greninja even more tbqh, I really hate that thing.

I don't like Greninja, if only because I can't stand its tongue..I don't like tongues. Its just gross.

Yes I know & its not just the Director (there are actually lots of them) who makes the decisions it the whole creative Team :). But I will just put the blame on GF, easier that way lol :P.

I just hate everything about Greninja & its not the tongue, I mean I like Lickitung & Lickilicky, I just can't stand that thing, its ugly.

EDIT: Ninja'd again

EDIT 2: Okay, the counter reached hundred on my turn, which means I turn into a Regular Ghost & get two BOOs. But I'm already a Permanent Ghost & have all my 4 BOOs intact. So what happens now? Do I get to shake my BOOty two more times :P, I mean do two extra BOOs get added to my BOO count for a total of 6? I would suppose so ~_~?

It's all Satoshi Tajiri's fault we're in this mess. He stole my childhood and I want it back so I can waste it playing Pokemon games again

BOO!

Yup, that's correct! The effect essentially stacks together. ^^

In Diamond & Pearl and especially XY, he wasn't as much of a wimp. Best Wishes did see him acting like a total noob in battle, while Sun & Moon has made him act way too much like a toddler personality-wise.

I'm only on episode 24 of Sun & Moon at the moment, but so far I think I'm gonna have to disagree about Ash's personality. His personality in SM is noticeably the same as in XY — it's just that the writers occasionally like to give him goofier interactions with his surroundings. The early pre-release trailers of the SM anime pretty much complied those clips together, which... left an odd first impression I guess, haha.

Maybe it's the art style coupled with the lack of battling that's making me feel he's acting too childish. The fluent animation combined with that cartoonish art style is trying to put his goofball side in the spotlight more, and I personally don't like that side of Ash.

I'm just put off due to it being loosely based on the worst games they've made to date. xD
Outside of DPPt, I've never much cared for Ash as a protagonist, though...he doesn't really have much in the way of a personality.

He did have the potential to be a great protag. His goof-ups in the first couple of seasons actually made sense, he was a rookie Trainer trying to learn stuff. But keeping him the same for 20 years, big NO.

And now there's rumours of SM being an alternate continuity from the previous sagas. No wonder why I feel so disconnected with SM Ash, because he's lost all the stuff that used to make him likeable in the previous journeys.

In fact, the SM group doesn't even have that "family" connection that other groups had, especially XY.

I think the anime has come to mirror the games in a lot of ways, with it being less about Ash and more about the people he interacts with. From BW onwards I've always gotten the sense that his rivals (and in XY, his travelling companions) are more important than he is...and in the games the player character is a background, practically invisible presence.

Cutpaste protagonists aren't really all that engaging any more.

Each new outfit of Ash's is showing more evidence that he is used as nothing but a male protagonist stand-in. His SM outfit being the worst, since it literally does look copy-pasted from the games.

It makes a certain thematic sense, but it's quite disheartening...then again, I suppose we're not the target audience of the anime any more. Like we're no longer the target audience of the games.

Kids these days...I miss the 90s.
