Watch out for Ghosts...

54. Verrry slowly. I'm still pretty busy with things, and I'm in a gaming mood right now so a lot of my free time goes on that. My glory days on the forum are over, now I'm just an ex-staffer nobody remembers. xD

55.

eh i'll always remember you as an active VPP staffer and participant :D

and i believe i'm about to start reaally slowing down in posting over the course of the next few days or weeks myself. my freelancing life is really starting to pick up and it's gonna get me busier than ever when i start handling (technically) 2 full time jobs graphic designing and video editing. tough life ahead, but strangely i'm more than eager to take it up. looks like there won't be any glory days for me either :p

56. 2 full time jobs? Yikes. I can barely manage the single part time job I have, although with my line manager signed off from work until further notice, I'm effectively trying to do 40 hours of work in 20. It's kinda destroyed my physical and mental health haha.

Good luck, though!

57.

one's the standard day job style a la 48 hours a week (yup it's 48 for us here in the Philippines bcs fuck us right?), and the other is a freelance gig with way more flexible hours, but has only recently really ramped up in tasks for me to do. i'm in talks right now to renegotiate my rates because an hourly pay basis just won't do anymore. i'm sending proposals for my flat rates per project type so i can finish shit fast and still get paid well. thanks btw! appreciate it.

as for your situation though, isn't that technically still doing 40 hours worth of work but with just 20 hours worth of pay? that's messed up. what happened to your line manager?

58. How on earth do you fit 48 hours of work in a week? I thought 40 as the max you were supposed to do...yikes. At least you have a little flexibility though - work/life balance is important and easier to achieve when you can choose your hours. You definitely need conditions to be the best they can be with those kinds of hours, your health is more important than your job after all.

Well, it could be worse, as I am now permanently working from home. If they wanted me in the office I literally wouldn't be able to cope because of my health. I spoke to my doctor last week and he's already unhappy with my situation, so yeah. My line manager was diagnosed with cancer in November, and even though she's responding well to treatment, it's cancer, so god knows when she'll be able to work.

companies usually make their workers come in on Saturdays too, so that's an extra 8 hours and Sunday's the only time we truly have off. i'm lucky the company i'm in allowed us to just be "on call" on Saturdays in case random stuff is needed. in a way i'm thankful for this pandemic happening, because i was able to realize that (1) i love working from home, and (2) there's so much better opportunities out there than simply being stuck with a corporate day job.

oh gosh that's terrible. i'm sorry to hear about the line manager, hoping you can continue powering through it. are you like me and Pokecommunity helps you cope?

Yeah, the pandemic has been a blessing in disguise for me as well - I never would have been able to do more than 16 hours a week if I had to go into the office, and prior to November I was in a really good place both physically and mentally. It feels bad sometimes when you consider how many people have lost their jobs, but...well, there it is. Gotta take opportunity where you can, right?

It does and it doesn't. I go through phases where I absolutely cannot stand being around other people when I'm struggling to cope, so I just withdraw entirely. Because I've been here for such a long time as well it can be kinda difficult both to be here and to not be here sometimes, depending on my mood. It's a good distraction when I'm in the right state of mind, though.

no wonder you were able to post that fast around that time lmao. and yeah it sucks to hear other people losing jobs and not having the skillset to find online opportunities. i gotta count myself lucky in that department, having everything done digitally paid off in the long run. i hope it stays this way.

i only get that feeling when i'm juggling trying to socialize with multiple people for more than 3 days in a row. a day or so of total isolation tends to put me right back in the mood. i'm just glad that Pokecommunity is sort of my constant right now no matter what happens. might change in the future, but i'm enjoying it for what it is for the moment.

62. Not being bound by the 30 second rule helped too, haha. I think WFH will become a new normal, or at least a new acceptable normal. It has a lot of benefits, mental health notwithstanding.

I used to be that way, back when I had a friends. These days I need longer because things take a lot longer to build up than they used to. But yeah, may as well enjoy the moment and see where it takes you. Life doesn't really allow for looking too far into the future at the moment generally!

i don't miss that cooldown at all lol. i wouldn't wanna go back to a regular user just for that reason alone. WFH is great for some, but crippling for others. i have friends who despise it because the line between home life and work life is blurred totally and they can't compartmentalize like they used to. different strokes for different folks y'know? i believe home working and office working could co-exist in harmony if people tried.

yeah gone are the days where people could actually be excited for the future. imagine being a privileged, mentally stable young adult with a steady job in the 60s. now that's the life right there.

We had two weeks of home office last year. Our "rulers" said that companies are allowed to suggest people the option to do home office. My boss was just "you can do it, but I wont" and of course everyone just said that they're not going to do home office, either. It's when keeping a broken system alive is more important than taking responsibility.

And yes, I'm aware that I'm a coward for going along with it, as well.

65. It's difficult to go against workplace culture - when everyone else is doing something, you don't want to be the only one not doing it.

Thankfully for me my colleague and line manager both WFH as well, and my manager pushed for us to get permanent WFH contracts - he doesn't want us in the office, and tbh we don't need to be there to do our jobs - but...well, I'd be out of a job if I couldn't WFH by now, because no way was I catching public transport to go into a small, cramped space in the middle of a global pandemic.
