    When do you feel awkward?

There are many moments in peoples lives when they feel awkward, but what are the main times in which it sticks out for you? The awkward moment a sexual commercial comes on when watching TV with your parents? Telling someone you like them and for them to say "That's nice?"

For the most part, I feel awkward when meeting new people. On the outside, I'd like to think that I project a calm, outgoing vibe... but all too often I'll be thinking: "What if this person doesn't like me? OMG this is going to be so embarrassing! Don't screw it up. Don't screw it up. FOR GOD'S SAKE, DON'T SCREW IT UP!" I've gotten better at it as I've grown up, but there are still times - and probably still will be times in the future - where I'll just want to run away and hide when confronted with someone new.

One of the main reasons I feel awkward is because people often tell me information that I already know and then I feel awkward for them telling me it so I just wanna hide because I ALREADY KNOW IT AND THEM TELLING ME MAKES ME FEEL WEIRD. I guess on the other hand when I know something and I can't say it to someone that also makes me feel really awkward. I dunno, things along those lines! Actually, since you mentioned something in the first post, whenever Nan/Pop mention marriage, which is surprisingly more often than you'd think! I also feel awkward naming people since I feel like it'll cause major issues or something.

I feel awkward when I meet other people. I also feel that way when I'm about to do something I've never done before.

At school when people smile at me and I smile back and it turns out there conversing with someone behind me so I run away

    This is probably also my most awkward moment. I can't count how often people have started talking to someone behind me and I replied back thinking it was for me. Ugh. ;_;

Meeting new people's also a tough one. I tend to get a little fidgety when a friend introduces me to their friend.

Mostly when interacting with strangers. Worst of all is when I'm at work and some flustered person who doesn't have their stuff together starts rummaging through their purse looking for something and can't find it. It's even worse if there are other strangers around because they'll look to me with this glance that says "Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" or "Can't you do something about this weird person?" Ugh.

I can't help feel awkward for other people, too, like when someone else does something embarrassing and doesn't quite realize it I feel awkward for them and want them to stop for their own sake as well as mine.

When someone I know waves at me so I wave back and smile BUT THEY WERE REALLY WAVING AT SOMEONE BEHIND ME OH MY GOD. I'm cringing now just thinking about it. Moments like that I wish I could instantly turn invisible and just weep.

Or when you're walking towards someone and you both decide not to get out of the way until the last second and during that last second you both go the same way so you quickly move the other way, but then they move that way too and oh my god it may only last five seconds at the most, but it feels like AN ETERNITY.

Besides those all I can think of is just being around people I don't know. I'm just generally shy when I don't know someone, but then if I'm getting just idk bad vibes I guess then I just freeze up and don't know what to say and all that runs through my mind is how to escape the situation ughhhhhhhhhh it's horrible.

i feel that when someone understand me without explaining...and when i found someone talking about something i'm thinking about at the same time....i feel awkward when someone act like he\she knows me while we just met!...i feel awkward also when i'm in a place with lots of people..god i hate being around lots of people..i love the quite places...i feel awkward when i call my own name..lol if a person have the same name like mine!

I feel awkward when around people that I'm not familiar with, especially if it is a large group. I might try to talk and be social, but if I get ignored, I just assume no one finds me funny or interesting which in turn causes me to be more shy and awkward and I eventually get to the point where I just wanna leave lol.

I did feel awkward when I was watching tv with my bf's mom and I was laughing at the sexual jokes. Eeeeeeeeeee. Also the waving/smiling thing that has been mentioned a ton of times lol.

    I feel awkward when:

    - I meet somebody new and can't think of things to say because I do not know them.

    - I mess up an interaction at work. Some examples of this are when I ask them how they are as they enter the store and then again when they come to the counter thirty seconds later; when I go into robotic autopilot and ask them for their loyalty card out of habit after I've already scanned it; when I say "Would you like the receipt" instead of "Do you have FlyBuys" at the beginning of a transaction etc.

    - I watch a TV show I like around other people and I'm the only person who likes that TV show.

    - Two people I know are fighting while I am present

    - Somebody on TV talks about how all guys masturbate while my mother is sitting in the room. This mainly happens on Chelsea Lately :P

That was a pretty easy list to come up with haha

Meeting groups of people I don't know. Not like being in a crowd or anything, but meeting a decently large number of people at once. I go super quiet because I don't want to make a bad first impression... which causes me to shut up and be super awkward. >_>

    It's counter-intuitive, that's for sure.

On the other side of this:

    >Come up to pay area at buffet
    >Pay for meal
    >Woman: "enjoy your dinner!"
    >Me: "you too!"
    >awkward

Also once someone said "NICE HAIR (my name)!" and I thought it was for me but it was for someone with the exact same name behind me and it was so embarrassing because I felt super good about the compliment lol. :(

Any time I mess up on anything. Ever.

Or those times when you ask an innocent question and the answer turns out awful. Few days ago at work: customers mention they're out of town. "Oh, why are you here?" "Our cat has cancer." INSTANT AWKWARD.

Walking down a long hallway and someone is approaching and you can't help but look at each other because there's no where else to look. You can tell that neither of you feel comfortable, and you end up staring at each other in the eye until one of you look away, and then you do it again after a few seconds of looking away. That's an awkward moment.

Talking to someone and answering their question, and then neither of you say anything for a while, and then you just decide to walk away. That's an awkward moment.

Waving at someone you think is waving at you, but they really aren't. That's an awkward moment. Likewise, when someone says hi and they start approaching you, and you smile and say hi back, but they're really saying hi to someone behind you. That's a super awkward moment.

Doing something you wouldn't want someone to see that isn't inappropriate, but something that you still don't want someone to see, and then someone sees and then you just fade away into shyness. That's an awkward moment.

Talking on the phone is awkward.

When I'm checking out of a store, and someone tells me to come again, and I tell them you too, and other things like that because I'm so used to having people say "Have a nice day!!!" and replying you too to that, so I reply to anything at stores with that. That's an awkward moment.

Those are really the only things I find awkward, and those are also things that people already said.

Im awkward around people in general. I have a lot of social awkwardness. I also feel awkwardWhen I cant think of what to talk about/have nothing to talk about.

Lately, I haven't had any. Last two I remember are:

    1) I was hanging out with two of my friends, one of them being my crush for, like, 3 years. I have asked her out, and she knows I like her, just saying. Anyway, it was the end of the period, and we got up to leave. Another friend called me over to talk to, and I told the two people I was with that they could go on, that I'd catch them later. Anyway, I go up to the guy who called me over, and he just asks "Why don't you make a move? You guys look really cute together". I go on to explain that I did and he asks if she's with someone. I said she was, but they broke up. He sort of gave me a look at that point that I didn't catch, and then went "We'll talk later". I'm like, okay... and I turn around. Turns out she was right behind me for I dont know how long. SO FREAKING AWKWARD.

2)I called one of my friends, and the first thing she asks is if I was flirting with her on FB. Kinda awkward way to start a convo. I denied it, since I didn't.

I am such an awkward derp sometimes. I'm neither an anti social or a socialite but I have my moments. Mostly it happens when I hang out with my friend who hangs out with a bunch of friends I don't know and I just stand there while they chat about stuff... I just hate moments like that...
