i remember i was talking with a friend and he mentioned to me how playing pokemon was kind of an escape from the outside world. whenever he went through a rough day, what helped him a lot and what helped get his mind off of things was playing pokemon. this probably applies to some of us as well, but i'm curious to hear everyone else's answers!

what does playing pokemon mean to you? don't overthink the question, just interpret it how you think you would best answer it. is it just for fun? or is it more than that?

Well, as my name suggests-Dragon types are my thing and all time favorite type. I've been using Bank and OR to begin every new game with every single one, at Level 1, switching in and out of what fits best at the time, then of course deciding what's the best finalized version of 6 for the end game and sticking with it. Getting them evolved and training them to full potential I suppose reflects a lot about me in general. It takes commitment, perseverance, will, and definite dedication to use get every one of them up to around (well almost all) to level 48 or higher lol.

Before it was as some kind of escape and bc I was still actively interested in the games, but since the latest games came out I only play bc of nostalgia and for fun (no money so I emulate everything ofc). I guess that's why I haven't finished any of my latest runs.

playing pokemon means a lot to me. it sounds silly, but since i go through a lot irl, pokemon helps me relax and forget about what's happening around me even if only for a moment. like, a large part of me finds just about every main series pokemon game (even my least favourite ones) fun to play, if only for the experience of building a team and going through the story, beating the e4 and experiencing whatever post-game may be afterwards. it's a fun journey, and i don't really tire of it no matter how many times i do it. ^^

Something about journeying in a world where you befriend the non-human species, and work together feels fantastic and satisfying. I don't have as much work as many do here because I was just a high school student, unlike many who have professional duties, so Pokemon is not necessarily an escape from reality, but also a part of day-to-day activities. Arranging a team, catching another Pokemon never gets old, and then playing with them on Amie/Refresh is fun. It's been a large part of my childhood, so of course it means a lot to me.
But I do admit, I've found other games that I enjoy as much as, if not more than a Pokemon game, but Pokemon's formula is super-fun, and it can be seen why it is a billion-dollar idea.

it helps scratch that collecting itch! there's just something so satisfying with getting all of the creatures, especially since their designs are much better than all the other monster-collecting games i've seen. i can grow attached and build a personal bond with them that can't really be replicated in any other game. working towards getting good/shiny mons through breeding/chaining/etc is so fun too, and a lot of them are super cute or cool. it's easy to get attached to these characters. <3

It's a comforting reminder that some things will never change no matter how old I get.

To me these games have infinite replay value. Every experience will be different because you can build your team in so many different ways. I could use 3 dark types and 3 grass types, or make a team of 6 blue Pokemon. It's why I always come back.
