What new features or improvements do you want for the Switch successor?

What are improvements you wanna see to the Switch successor? I'd love to see being able to add people without a friend code. Also a proper voice chat system would be nice for sure. Maybe even backwards compatible games that are on Switch 1, and would be ok with them making new game updates to improve performance on Switch 2. Maybe even allowing us to download our Switch 1 games to the new system too to play.

I'd love to see them lean back into the idea of it being a console you can take with you on the go again. I miss a lot of the portable and social features the DS and 3DS had, things like DS Download Play, PictoChat, Swapnote, the camera apps, and especially StreetPass. I loved when games like Pokemon B2W2 and Pokemon XY/ORAS had things you could do based on who you passed by and just happened to connect with without directly linking up in-game. Seeing someone in my passerby list was really exciting and having little side modes or games where I was incentivized to go out in the world with my console so I could find and connect anyone and everyone I came across was really exciting when I was still in school and going out every day. I think the Switch is a great console but it didn't feel like a handheld Nintendo console because it was missing all of those attractions. The Switch is a fantastic console but it doesn't feel like it was made so you could take it places and play with other people, it feels like it was made to be a home console and they just decided "I dunno I guess you can carry it around with you".

And I know this is a popular thing to say, but I really miss a lot of the customization options. I want my console to feel like my device. I want to organize my games and apps in a way I like, I want to have different themes or profile options or music for my home screen based on the games I like to play or whatever thing I'm fixated on at the time. Custom 3DS themes (while they're definitely too open, I figure the best we're gonna get is "Here's one theme based off this first-party game") were such a joy to have and really got me excited to turn on my 3DS and play games on it. I love cosmetics and I love organizing my belongings. Having a ton more options to make new profile icons was a nice addition to the Switch, but that's basically the bare minimum. Everybody's Switch menu basically looks the same even several years after the console's released. I want themes and other customization options, I want my menu to look and feel like something like the PS4 or 3DS.

The Switch was and has been a great console that I like a lot, but it really feels bland and kinda boring. It feels like a lot of the cool stuff from previous years were removed to make it overly simple, and I think that was a terrible decision.

Already announced backwards compatibility for Switch 1 games. Checks one item off the list.

Seconds customization options. Was it so hard to have more than black and white themes?

Wishes to be able to gift games directly. Why do you have to go through some third-party service to get someone a Switch game?

Oh right. I honestly am super glad about this.

Free and/or paid ones if they're cheap I'd be ok with! Nintendo themed stuff like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc.

Being able to make folders and put apps and games in it! Example put your cozy games in a cozy games folder, Mario games in a Mario folder, etc..

All I want is to be able to put cute themes on my Switch like I could do with my 3DS. I booted up my 3DS earlier today to check something and was sooo charmed by all the stickers and custom icons and stuff that I'd picked out. Switch is so boring in comparison. :(

Backwards compatibility and custom menus seem to be the popular option. What about bringing back VC to include with ultimate backwards compatibility? I know paying for subscription to NSO is going to continue on the next console including paying to use there multiplayer online services even if most don't play the entire library of NSO titles. I don't know, I just feel better with the gens 1 and 2 VC games on the 3ds and don't want to really pay every year just to access my save files besides I know despite being VC, feels more like you own it, rather then being behind a paywall. Low key, I agree with user Setsuna's opinion on PSS being a superior communication system in gen 6 Pokemon games. It was "way" easier to trade, battle, and communicate what you or the other person wanted off the PSS. I don't know, the switch kinda cut off the passerby system and makes this era of gaming feel somewhat isolated Pokemon or otherwise. No blinking dot indicating you can play with someone nearby, passerbys, acquaintances, or even friends found in most switch games. I kinda miss the notification that says "oh your friend is online" while battling a wild encounter or the orange led blinking. I know it's to curtail meeting dangerous strangers over the Internet, but it makes it feel like you can only play with family and close friends and not international friends from across the globe. This may also kill off friends list as people rarely use friends list anymore on switch, possibly kill off miis, but I actually want miis to continue on the next console and friends list to have an actual impact. Streetpass on a new console would be a neat call back to the 3ds era, but would have to see some tweaks in the street pass system as the only way to reintroduce it is to have a system that can do the streetpass like feature that activates while in sleep mode or should be done manually. Pictochat and swapnote like apps would also be neat additions, despite me never using them.

I know backwards compatibility is the big choice for people, but VC completely slipped my mind. I don't understand the switch heh from the way VC was handled on the eShop for the Wii/Wii U/3DS to the way it's done now under NSO besides "guys buying our online subscription is worth it I promise" because it feels like a massive loss. The console's been out for so long with still what feels like not many games worth playing and I can't help but feel like I'm paying more money for less games under NSO. I can't say I've ever felt like I don't own the VC games I play on NSO, but I think that's completely valid and I would rather buy my own small collection of VC games that I want to purchase rather than have a library of stuff they decided to throw at me I continue to technically still pay before despite never caring about.

Except Panel de Pon. I'm still thrilled it's available and basically what I'm saying is I want Panel de Pon on the new console too. I'd pay 60 bucks for that and I wouldn't even hesitate or question it.

Backwards compatibility and custom themes are the two big ones for me, and it looks like the former is confirmed at least. And save data better be transferable as well, especially if Nintendo intends for us to migrate to the new console as our primary unit.
