The new year is here!

But from the decade or so, what is your "Pokemon Generation of the Decade"? I've also provided a poll too, so feel free to vote, and explain why you've chosen your pick.

(Just a note: yes, most of these games were released from another decade ago, but this is more so catered to you. You can pick which game you've enjoyed the most that you've played since 2010).

i know a lot of people would vote gen 5, but i just can't agree. battle subway soured gen 5 for me for a while until B2W2 released. i know i'm sounding like a broken record at this point, but it shouldn't have to take until a sequel to get post-game content right when Game Freak could've gotten it right the first time around. @__@ i won't go into it any further, but gen 5 was a solid 7/10 at best with majority points going into B2W2. that's just my own opinion and i value content and post-game more than story, which understandably most people place BW higher on.

that said though, my vote goes to gen 4. before anyone says anything, the gen 4 games aren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. the HP draining thing that gen 4 is infamous for is just terrible, and not to mention D/P's surfing speed was awful. these are pretty much common criticisms of gen 4 alongside how super long HGSS are and how long it takes to complete with its pacing. i get it. but regardless of all of that, it gave the player something to do and then some. players who aren't invested in the story don't have to be, because for people like me who care about battling, they can battle their hearts out at the battle frontier with all sorts of wacky conditions that honestly, for me at least, don't get old. for HGSS, the pokeathlon was super fun and also something to do as an alternative.

but gen 4 brought me more than just D/P/P and HGSS. gen 4 also brought with it Pokemon Battle Revolution and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. as someone who grew up on pokemon spinoffs more than the main series, i just cannot ignore that there's more to a generation than just the main series alone and that's where other generations post gen 4 fall short, to me. i had a blast with PMD and, again, as someone who cares a lot about the in-game battling side of things, Pokemon Battle Revolution was endless fun seeing my Pokemon on the big screen, interacting with each other using different kinds of moves, etc.

i still hope that one day TPCi would bring back good ol' days of spinoffs, but alas.

I spent the most time in the early decade with Gen 3 and subsequent rom hacks.

However without Gen 6, I believe my interest in the franchise would be dead. The new 3D captivated me, hence it's my choice.

It's still early so we'll see how it goes, but I am a little surprised that Gen 5 currently has a significant lead. I mean, I placed a vote for it too (Gens 5 and 4 are my #1 and #2), it's just that I thought that, while opinion on it has improved at a lot since its release, that there's still more love for some of the other generations. Like where'd all the Gen 1 and Gen 3 stans go lol

I'm inclined to say Generation VI because I found Generation V a little underwhelming. The faster pace of X & Y onwards helps, I think.

Gen 6 because Serena. I've also put over 500 hours into my copy of Y.

Gen 5 had a better storyline, but also had other critical flaws including pixelated battle sprites and the season mechanic which required waiting and needless backtracking to access some areas.

Gen 7 was a total dumpster fire and I've used tax preparation software with better characters and plot.

I also put a lot of time into Leaf Green and Platinum (especially in the 2010-2013 span), but since they were released before 2010, I had to set a limit.
