What's the point of shinies if they're so impossible to find?

There are ways to make it a bit more reasonable, but imagine your joy when you find a Pokemon that's so rare. Not just 1/100, or 1/500, but 1/8000 chance to be seen. It's one of the best feelings you can get in Pokemon, I'm sure :P

I had exactly that feeling when i found Shiny Makuhita :D

On the flipside, it must be the worst when you can't catch it for whatever reason.

I'm yet to encounter one myself. :(

I've captured a shiny... It was a red Gyrados XD in Gen II XD

Ive been lucky enough to obtain 4 through my gameing carear, one was a pichu that came from that person infront of the daycare in crystal *i was heartbroken whn the game memory failed :(* one was a shinny aron in saphire a zubat in heartgold and a starly i was traded by a friend..... i love that starly now :)

Ive only met one...Red Gyarados. Gotta love HM Slaves <3 *cracks whip*. So far, never met any other. I had a friend meet a shiny Zapdos ;o.

A nice feeling, though it seems fleeting. :\ And I can anticipate that it must get annoying seeing others with a box full of legitimate shiny Pokemon, when you've yet to encounter even one (not counting the Lake of Rage's Red Gyarados or the pre-programmed Battle Frontier shinies).

Yeah...I've been fortunate to encounter more than one shiny Pokemon in my Pokemon Trainer career, but I've lost nearly all of them. The only one I have at the moment is a shiny Whismur from Hoenn's Desert Underpass.

I think it would be nice if the 1/8192 shiny probability rate were lowered to 1/2048 or 1/1024 (keeping in with the 'powers of two' motif). Employing the Masuda Method during Pokemon breeding would result in recalculated rates of 1/512 and 1/256, respectively (using the same "divide by 4" calculation of the Masuda method's modified rate of 1/2048 from the original 1/8192). Also, it really wouldn't hurt to bring back the PokeRadar application of the Poketch in another format...maybe an additional C-Gear feature for Gray Version.

If necessary, shiny Pokemon can be rare, but not that rare to the point where a large amount of people have never even managed to sight one in-game. A reduction in the current shiny Pokemon rate(s) could be beneficial for the Pokemon experience...

The rareness of shinies makes it better when you find them, I was in the ghost tower thing in Pearl (I've forgotten its name) and a wild battle started, and A SHINY ZUBAT! It felt amazing, I was so happy I had some Pokeballs so I could catch the little green guy, now if only I could find my copy of Heart Gold that its currently on...

But you make a good point, I wouldn't mind seeing the rareness decreased slightly.

No-one noticed the Alex Day quote? D:
/started singing when she saw it

It's the reason why I clicked on the thread =D

The fact that they are so hard to find is the point of them; people hunt shinies for the reward of saying that they tried and succeeded after a long time and a lot of effort.

I've never caught a shiny Pokemon and it's really annoying me now. I haven't encountered one or caught one except for that stupid red Gyrados. -_-

I would love it even if the shiny encounter rate was lowered a bit because it's ridiculous now that I've never come across one.

There's not much point. They just incorporated shiny Pokémon into the game to make use of being on the Gameboy Color. ;p

I've never encountered a shiny before and I'm not really too bothered by it.^^ It would be nice if they lower the rate of encountering one, so that players have a chance to actually capture a shiny, without having to resort to other means of obtaining them.

Shinies were originally put in G/S/C to showcase the color capabilities of the Game Boy Color. Right now, I think the point of shinies is for bragging rights. There might be people out there dedicated to finding the shiny forms of their favorite Pokemon.

You imply there's any other point to shiny Pokémon than bragging rights.

I could accept shiny Pokémon if they were all naturally powerful (all IVs of at least 20, say), but given that their sole distinction from any other Pokémon is their colour and the sparkles, I really just don't see the point to them. I don't do the bragging thing, and it's a pretty bad way of artificially extending gameplay.

No, I don't like shiny Pokémon. I would prefer more examples of more reasonable differences, like the gender differences and Spinda's random spots.

The main reason that shinies are oh so rare, is the sense of accomplishment when you finally find one. However, having the shinies have higher IVs than normal pokemon may actually be a good idea.

I nearly jumped for joy when I found a shiny starly in my copy of pokemon platinum, and it is now a great member in my team.

If upon spotting your first shiny ever, you don't think to yourself, "oh my god this is so rare, it's the only one I'll ever see," they've done something horribly wrong.

If the Masuda method and Pokéradar aren't enough for you, learn to be more patient.

Shiny Chinchou in Gold, Shiny Tentacool in Silver, Shiny Weedle in FireRed. None of these were intentional encounters. The Chinchou, I was only like 10 and didn't even know what a shiny was. Oh, and Gyarados in Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver xD But yeah, never really tried, not much of a point to actually trying in my opinion.
