Once I beat a Pokemon game, you can pretty much guarantee I'll spend at least four days using the Masuda Method to try to hatch a shiny. I recently found myself a wild shiny though, completely unplanned and unexpected, and I got to thinking. On the one hand, hatching a shiny could be satisfying since you know that massive amount of time and work you've put in has finally paid off; on the other hand some might prefer finding one in the wild, finding it unexpectedly would be a nice surprise plus it's rarer to find one in the wild if you hatch one using the Masuda Method. So I started wondering which one people prefer, so which do you guys feel is more satisfying: Hatching a shiny or finding it in the wild?

They're about equally satisfying to me, because I don't hunt shinies - at least not anymore - and any shiny that I get is a nice surprise to me now.

However, if I were to actively go for them then I'd find hatching one far more satisfying, because it would likely be the culmination of a lot of work to try and manipulate all those interesting little variables that people who make a habit of breeding manipulate, so it would be far more useful to me in the game.

A wild shiny makes for a nice surprise, but if I intend on using a shiny as part of a team, then I go for breeding in order to control IVs, natures, abilities and all that.

There are times I end up hatching a shiny that I never intended to put on a team. For example, I was trying to breed a Jolly Sheer Force Totodile with Dragon Dance so I started working on a Horsea first with high IVs (to make it easier to breed IVs later) and ended up hatching a shiny Horsea in the process.

I should add that I ended up also hatching a shiny Totodile, but unfortunately it had Torrent, not Sheer Force :(

I prefer hatching shinies, because I end up with better IVs, a good nature, and egg moves that way. Though it's really frustrating when you hatch hundreds or thousands of eggs only to finally get a Pokemon that doesn't quite match what you were looking for (like a Pokemon that needs its hidden ability to function sans hidden ability). I've mostly stopped actively trying to hatch shinies now, after some prior frustration, but I breed enough that I've gotten a few random shinies, and it's always fun. I've yet to breed a perfect shiny myself, though.

Wild shinies are definitely more surprising since you can hear the sparkles go off unlike when you hatch a Pokémon and all you really see is its different color without the sound effect haha. The shiny sound is really special and adds a lot to the experience of finding one.

I breed for shinies fairly often though so hatching one is better for me personally since it's guaranteed to have the nature I want and good IVs. I don't hunt for wild shinies as much and therefore they usually pop up suddenly and end up with poor natures/etc, which is a big thing to me post game. ; ;'

In ORAS I was looking for a Electrike under the cycling road when in my first encounter a shiny one popped up. I think it's the best feeling when you get an unexpected shiny Pokemon that you want to use in your team and I was soooooooooo lucky.

Personally, I think they're about equal in terms of satisfaction since both have their pros and cons. The surprise factor when finding that random wild shiny and hearing the unexpected sparkles go off is quite satisfying. As for hatching, the time and effort that went into getting the correct nature and even IVs and once the egg hatches and again, the surprise factor of a shiny pop out is quite satisfying as well.

I've never hatched a shiny, though I've ran into one unexpectedly which was really satisfying. I could imagine running into one would be slightly more satisfactory than actually hatching one imo.

My very first shiny ever was a random encounter in Lost Hotel, a Pawniard.

I've never hatched a shiny, only because Masuda Method is expensive and pointless without shiny charm.

Generally, shinies were probably meant more as a chance wild encounter to make wild battles and such more exciting or interesting in some way, rather than as something to be accumulated and generally given away in some form. Hence, the 'shiny' designation and animation refer to their sudden appearance in the wild, where they are to come across as striking, and in that sense such appearances are prioritised.

Well I voted hatching... but that's because it's the only way I found a shiny ever (two shinies, Treecko and Foongus). I don't know the feeling to find a random shiny.

But a reason I said hatching too it's because, for my xperience, my treecko was flawless and my amoongus only misses one or two IV. A random shiny can be disappointing.
