Maybe BW because they were actually 2 people instead of one guy and they had legitimate personality and development and depth instead of "act like a hyperactive dumbass maniac " all the the time lmao.

Silver left the biggest impression as a rival. With how he always seemed to pretend the outcome was that he won the battle, calling the player weak.

swsh.

say what you will about hop, but imo he feels like a genuine rival to me. he wasn't an asshole like silver of course, but he didn't need to be. hop was basically the example of how a "nice" rival can still feel like a rival. aspirations of being better than the player and even leon aside, his general attitude and demeanor felt real to me. i think it hit hard around the time he fought bede and lost. i think many others that i've read put it best when they mentioned that he's basically frustrated he can't be the protagonist, which sounds pretty cheesy (and it probably is) but idk, it worked for me and i felt like he really had a character development moment which says a lot more than some past rivals imo.

of course, my favourite personality is barry's but hop is effective as a rival, i think. i like both. :>

I'm torn between the new rivals and the old rivals. I think Blue/Silver left a bigger impact on me, but that would make sense given how severe they were and how much younger I was. Alternatively I think I just enjoy the likes of Hau/Hop more because they're more complex and complete characters.
