Which new moves and abilities do you want to see?

I made a thread similar to this a while back when the games were announced, but I might bring the topic back again to keep the hype up.

So, we're only three months away from Sun & Moon's release and so far we have seen a lot of new Pokemon with brand new moves and abilities, ranging from ones that automatically summon Electric Terrain to being able to poison any type, copy dance moves, raise Defense when hit by an attack, and a lot more.

Anyways, what other new moves and abilities are you hoping to see in Sun & Moon? And as a bonus discussion, what do you think of all the new moves and abilities seen so far?

I really want an Intimidate version for Special Attack as well. I've always felt like Special Attackers are neglected because of the lack of abilities that aid them. I'd also like to see some older abilities get reworked to make useful, such as Illuminate.

I think Intimidate for lowering Sp. Attack should be a thing, but Chase's idea of giving Illuminate an additional in-battle effect would be a nice buff to it, similar to how Pickup gained an in-battle effect in 5th Gen.

As for what else I want to see, if the island guardians being Electric, Fire, Psychic and Ghost is true I hope there's a new ability the Ghost-type one can get since I imagine the Psychic one automatically summoning Misty Terrain (since it's uh pink) and the Fire one getting Drought. Maybe something that summons dark clouds on the field.

And I also wanted a version of Moxie that raises Sp. Attack but I think Magearna's ability seems to have fulfilled that. That said, I am loving all the new moves and abilities so far and I'm hoping to see more interesting concepts used.

Freezing Point - This Pokemon is so cold it can withstand the hottest of flames.

Like seriously, give Ice Pokemon something to mitigate their weaknesses; they need the most help defensively out of like..any other type out there?

Could also call it Absolute Zero. Or we use either of these names for freeze on touch! MMmmm that'd be deliciously evil.

I love Angie's idea for that new ability for Ice-types. I was kinda disappointed with the ability choice for the Alolan Sandshrew and Vulpix lines (seriously why are Game Freak just slapping Snow Cloak on so many Ice-types?) and I felt that Ice-types needed an ability that would help them defensively and nerfing a weakness to Fire was actually the same thought I had in mind.

Pollination - Powers up the Pokémon's Grass-type moves if it's hit by a Bug- or Flying type move.

Because a lot of plants actually use birds and bugs to their advantage!
Maybe both Bug- and Flying-type moves is too much, in which case I would restrict to Bug moves only. Also, instead of powering up just Grass attacks, a more general Attack and/or Special Attack boost could be an alternate idea.

I don't have any preferences for new Abilities, but I really do think they need to revamp the Hidden Abilities. Pokémon from gens 1-5 (and 6, too) really should have access to all these new gen 6 and 7 Abilities not only for the sake of competitive viability, but also just for thematic appropriateness.

Although I do think a Sp. Atk. Intimidate is long overdue.

    Nerve Abilitiy
-Sharply raises Sp. Atk among one-hit KOing a pokemon

I'd like to see this, because many times in a trainer battle, your pokemon may be strong enough to KO the opposing pokemon in one hit, but not do as much when they send out their next pokemon. It's like Moxie for Sp. Atk. And instead of KOing a pokemon, a one hit KO is needed instead, since the Sp. Atk is raised by 2 points.

I want to see innate abilities. Mostly I just want to see Pokemon that levitate in their models being immune to Ground-type moves automatically without needing to have Levitate as an ability.

I agree. I've been thinking this for a while also.

I'd also like to see more weather/terrain team synergy. I had been hoping for a buff to hail teams in this gen since hail currently has no added game mechanics except blizzards accuracy and the hail dependent abilities are pretty lacklustre. Seeing the alolan ninetales and sandslash both having snowcloak makes me think that it might actually be happening. I'm expecting ninetale's hidden ability to be snow warning and we may get an ability that doubles speed in snow. I'd like a mechanic where ice types get a defensive buff in hail. Maybe hail could have an effect like weakening the power of grass type moves or decreasing the speed of water type pokemon.

I also like how they're making terrain moves more competitively viable. Tapu koko can summon electric terrain when it enters battle which instantly makes the move more viable since you don't have to waste a turn. Now they've revealed that alolan raichu's speed doubles in electric terrain. It really feels like they're putting more of an emphasis on terrain and weather teams.

I'd love to see grassy and misty terrains get similar abilities for summoning and abusing them. I would also like to see something to do with trick room like maybe an ability that halves the pokemon's speed when trick room is active. Maybe even magic and wonder rooms too.

These would make for a lot of really interesting combinations of team archetypes too since you can have weather, terrain and trick room up at the same time. Rain and electric terrain, sun and grassy terrain. Whimiscott with nature power in the terrains would be pretty cool too.

For extra evilness, it can be literal and have an ability that increase the chance of freezing an opponent with Ice-type attacks. :o

...Or just have an Ice-type version of like, Flame Body or something. That works.

I'd think that'd be broken and really hard to balance D:
But I too have thought about this but I feel like the cons outweigh the pros unfortunately.

    Abilities-
    1.Special Atk variant of Moxie.
    2.Hail variant of Swift Swim.
    3.Kicking variant of Iron Fist.
    Moves-
    1.Bolt Kick,Ice Kick,-Same Bp as Blaze Kick.
2.Power-Up-Beam-Special Variant of Power up punch.

Still trying to decide if to get the game or not... Or loose my girlfriend. Decisions decisions :(

I want a special attack burn status effect.

Well, gen 6 introduced the moves Terrains, so why not give more of them? Like Dark Terrain that favors Dark and Ghost pokemons alike? Definitely want more physical-based Fairy Move other than Play Rough, there's alot of possibilities, like Fairy-type Quick Attack or Double-Edge?

    As for new abilities:
    1. Download variant which boosts Defense / Sp. Defense
    2. Poison Heal variant (Heals when burned cause... reasons)
    3. Iron Fist variants that boosts power of kicks / tails

    Abilities-
    1.Special Atk variant of Moxie.
    2.Hail variant of Swift Swim.

I think Magearna's exclusive Soul-Heart ability kinda fulfills the purpose of a Sp. Atk Moxie variant, but it also gets the boost when its partner Pokemon get knocked out as well, not just the opponent, which I do find interesting.

I also love your idea of a speed-raising Hail ability since we already have Swift Swim, Chlorophyll and Sand Rush doing the same purpose for their respective weather, so it would be fair Hail had one as well since it's not very viable and it could give it the boost it wants.

I really want to see more attacks (and maybe even abilities?) that are based off of how much a pokemon likes or dislikes it's trainer. I feel like GF has only just barely scratched the surface of a really interesting mechanic. "Return" and "Frustration" are okay, and "Aime" also took it further and added in some other neat additions, but I really want to see much more.

I like the direction they have taken with new abilities for S/M. We've only seen a handful of these abilities but some of them seem more audacious than past gens.

Here's one I'd like to see:

Stealth - When a Pokemon is hit by a Physical attacking move, its Evasion increases by one stage.

I'd like to see Fire and Electric type priority moves. It seems like they'd have been given this a lot earlier since both of these elements are classically associated with speed.

Although it is not "new" per se, getting a Water-type with the Technician ability would be pretty cool, considering Aqua Jet and Ice Shard don't get this boost on any mons. I think Water Pulse would qualify as well if memory serves me right.

Electric and fire also need some good physical moves.
We only have fire punch and Flare Blitz , fire punch is weak and flare Blitz have recoil damage.
Same with electric type we have Tpunch and wild charge a weaker version of Volt tackle,i also want that Pokemon like Electivire,Electross,Luxray Should be able to learn Volt tackle. They have a limited move pool. Both fire and electric need a 100 bp Physical move without recoil.
