The title says it all. Which one do you think is most convenient to you and why? making a thread or participating in a discussion?

Well, for me I think participating in a discussion is more ideal rather than creating a thread since you already have the topic to reply to, unlike when creating a thread you have to think of an interesting topic and the fact that if a thread gets no response, it would be pretty frustrating. What do you think?

The easiest thing is being one of the first people to respond to a new topic so you don't have to go through other people's responses to see what they've said.

But I agree. It's easier to have the topic already there. If you're like me you don't usually think of many interesting topics.

I...tend to prefer making threads, which is usually why I feel inactive if I haven't posted at least in like 15 threads a day, whereas with making threads, I can make two threads and feel completely active. Idk, it's weird.

Usually, though, I'll only make threads here or in B/W, cause I don't feel like I can make successful discussion threads in other places as much. :(

Plus in general, seeing others responses to your threads - if they generate a lot of discussion - is a real bonus. :3

Making threads makes me nervous, I much prefer replying to them. I already today once went to start a new thread, got halfway through an opening post, and then just deleted it because I was afraid no one would want to discuss it and I would look silly. xD; On the other hand, I love replying to threads because if you don't want to write a long post, you don't have to, and if you want to write a tl;dr, you're more than welcome to. It has a lot more freedom imo. But because making threads is so intimidating for me, I feel much better about myself when I make a thread compared to when I reply to one.

Like Toujours, I get so anxious making a new thread, especially a discussion thread. I'm always thinking that no one else will care about the topic, and so no one will discuss it, so then I'm left with an empty thread. Or, if people do respond, I always feel like I have to check every reply to hold up the conversation.

It's replying to threads that I feel most comfortable doing. I can respond to it without caring if people actually read my responses and leave the thread alone if I want to. I have more choice in the matter with simply replying.

Oh god, I can post in all the threads here I want but I am so picky about the polls I make I hardly ever post them. >_____<; It's like they have to be so deep and thoughtful and original that nothing comes up to my standards. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so picky.
Which makes me feel like an awful mod -- I do keep an eye out on the place and I post pretty much daily, but I don't feel like I'm contributing as much as I should because I hardly ever start topics. :( *watches as the h-staff plots her demotion due to OMG NOT ENOUGH THREADS SAM*

I tend to reply to threads than make one. Thread that I make usually get on responses, so I just gave up on that. I'd rather jump into a discussion than start one.

Like Toujours and Astinus have already said; making a thread makes me nervous. I rarely ever make any threads, unless I'm feeling pretty confident. Creating a topic for discussion isn't one of my strongest points anyway.

Replying to a thread is much more easier and comfortable, where someone has already laid down a topic for discussion. I feel more confident with replies, than creating a whole new topic for discussion. Not many people pay attention to my posts anyway, so yeah. derp. o3o

I'm terrified of making threads too, for the reasons already stated and also because I'm petrified - even if I've done all the research - it'll either be a duplicate thread or put in the wrong place. So I've made a few semi-successful threads, but I prefer to just reply.

    Those reasons stated are the reasons that I don't make many threads anymore. ^^;

Replying is easier, I don't have to right something lengthy, and people won't hate me for starting a stupid thread.

It's easier for me to post in other threads. I'm paranoid when I make a topic because I'm afraid it may belong in the wrong section. I've made a few topics without getting in trouble, however.

I like posting to a thread rather than creating one. What if it gets locked? That would be sad. If it had no posts? That would be embarrassing.

I prefer posting in a thread rather than create my own. I do make threads occasionally, but just posting in a thread is a timesaver for me.

Creating a thread, because it means I don't have to formulate an opinion on whatever happens to jump into my head.

I think it is hard to formulate discussion out of thin air then reply to something already present. Not to mention wording it, and making people interested in taking part in the discussion is a pain as well. I like making topics and try to comment in as much topics as I can to generate activity and create some discussion, but replying is quite more easier to do for me.

I do find it more satisfying though to generate discussion and then participate in the discussion throughout the topic you already created, so you can bounce off each other responses so to speak.

creating a thread, because usually i tend to have ideas backed up for miles, and then every now and then i just let them all pour out and eventually end up flooding a particular forum with my threads.

The two are used for different purposes.. Creating a thread is to start a discussion about a new topic, which you haven't found around the board. Replying is taking part in said discussions.

They are both equally easy tasks to perform lol
