UPDATE: Hi everyone, this week's contest is officially over! Click here to access Week 19's puzzle! ^^

    Who's That Pokémon? (Week 18)

It's time to put your Pokémon knowledge to the test with our weekly contest of "Who's That Pokémon?"! Once a week every Sunday I'll post a zoomed-in section of a Pokémon and it's your job to tell me which Pokémon the art belongs to. All of the art used will be from the Pokémon's official Dream World art and will be a 30x30 px section of the art cropped and zoomed in 8x. Once you think you have an answer, send it to me in a PM and you could be our next prize winner!

    Overview

    • Guess the Pokémon whose art is being featured!
    • The clue is a 30x30 px section of the Pokémon's Dream World art (found here) cropped and magnified 8x.
    • Send Revise Librarian a PM with your answer once you've figured it out - you may answer as many times as you want per week, but only your final answer will count!
    • Do not post answers in this thread - you don't want other people to use your answers, do you?
    • Feel free to chat about the puzzles and how easy/hard you find them; that's the fun of this game after all!
    • Submit your answers by next Saturday (August 15) before 11:00 p.m. EDT if you want them to count!
    Rewards!

A winner is a winner and a winner is you - assuming you won! Here's what you can expect to win from correctly guessing each week's Pokémon. (Hover over for descriptions!)

    Clue - Week 18

As of May 31, 2015, Mega Pokémon are now included as possible answers in the standard "Who's That Pokémon" rounds!

Good luck, everyone! Starting with Week 13, I added a poll to the contest thread to get an idea of its general difficulty level. I'm always happy to listen to any feedback or suggestions, so don't be shy to vote or post how easy/difficult you found the puzzle! :D

Also, feel free to discuss any previous puzzles in this thread if you'd like!

Hi guys! As I've said before, I plan on making Week 20 another "special" week just like how Week 10 was the shiny week. I still haven't decided what it'll be yet, so feel free to share your ideas if you have any! I'd be glad to hear them. :)

(There's a chance that it might be another shiny week if that's the most suitable option, but we'll see how things turn out!)

You have to admit last week's was tough, given all the red Pokemon with similar markings to what was shown. I do wonder what the special entry is going to be though, maybe a Mega or a form difference?

Do another shiny week but don't use sprites.

Oh god, I didn't see if I won the event last week xD What was the last week pokémon then?

Oh ^^ Then I gave Revisian Librarian the correct answer ^^ Thx Hikamaru =D

Yep, Hikamaru was exactly right! In fact, the old thread is still around if you're interested in seeing the full post! :D Here, I'll put a link to it:

Do another shiny week but don't use sprites.

I would really love to do that, but unfortunately there isn't an entire batch of official shiny artwork for every Pokémon (as WriterRaven said), meaning I might have to resort to using sprites if we do end up with another shiny week.

On another hand, someone suggested that I could do a "Sugimori Challenge," in which the source material is taken from Ken Sugimori's artwork (found here), rather than the Dream World art. While this sounds like a pretty neat idea, I'm not entirely sure if it would qualify as a "special week," since it's basically the same as usual but with a different artist. Do you guys have any thoughts on this?

Hmm... biggest issue I can see with using the Sugimori artwork is that you might need to specify which 'version' the art is from: all the Pokémon from the first two generations have more than one piece of artwork, which may affect the source image used for guesses.

Other than that, I'm okay with a Sugimori week.

All you need to do is specify that it's the most recent one, which is either FRLG and HGSS for Gens I and II, and the debut generations for the rest I think. Megas are included too!

I'm happy for a Sugimori-themed week if that's what the others want. It may be a tad trickier but we'll see how everyone goes with that.

I'm gonna spend my time pressing my eyes into the screen to see if the pic resembles something in the Pokémon's Dream World art linked above until my eyes bleed.

LET'S DO THIS. /smacks face against the screen.

Whew, I'm quite glad to know that you guys would be fine with a Sugimori week, especially since sprites aren't the most friendly thing to work with. ^^

I'll be sure to fill you guys in if there are any new details, but for now I think jdthebud's suggestion would work out just fine.

Ahaha, I wish you the best of luck! This week's clue might have been a tad more painful than the past few weeks, so I must apologize for that. xD

By the way, just a quick reminder to everyone that you guys have only 8 hours left (as of this post) to submit your final answers! Good luck, you all! :D

Alright everyone, are you ready for the moment of truth? This week's contest is officially over, so it's time to reveal the answer...

    Malamar!

Specifically the upper part of its head, which sort of resembles hair! Congratulations to everyone who guessed it correctly! Now let's look at some of the other answers that we saw...

This week's winners: WriterRaven, Mewtwolover, Hikamaru, jdthebud, kingdenas, Embernight, Wizardman11
Other answers received: Seadra, Rhydon, Garchomp

(Please let me know if I accidentally missed your name on the list of winners! If so, I'll be sure to double-check my inbox and get everything sorted for you! Also, if your name is italicized on this list, then that means you have guessed every single week correctly so far!)

This week's puzzle may have proven to be tougher than the previous 7 weeks, possibly including Week 13. There's only one more puzzle before the special Week 20, so that should hopefully be something to look forward to. Some of you might be receiving your 3rd and final emblems pretty soon, so let's see if you guys can keep it up!

Anyway, stay tuned for next week's puzzle, which should be coming up tomorrow morning (Eastern Time)! I will either edit this post or make a new post here as soon as the new thread is open. Until then, feel free to discuss this week's puzzle (or Week 20's "special" puzzle) in this thread. Peace out, everyone! :D

EDIT: Hi guys, the new thread is up! Click here to check it out! Feel free to discuss this week's answer in the new thread!
