Why do we Rom Hack? :3

    As more of these "what" and "why" topical threads pop up, I thought I should post what came into my head ;D.
    Essentially, I'm asking why do we Rom Hack as a rhetorical question, I'm not really wondering what the point of it, but what do each and every one of us get out of it. :3 More of a bring us closer together, all hail rom hacking question ;3

    I rom hack because of nostalgia. I remember waking up every morning as a kid, popping in my sapphire version, and watching this magnificent 2-D landscape crawl across the screen (Yeah, I was REALLY young, who actually likes the maps Nintendo made? x3). I get a exhiliration from reliving the memories in my now adult mind. I get to use the tools people made here to disassemble those original landscapes and making my own is what I really like. Plus, the aspect of me being the storyteller ;)

    Tell me why you rom hack ;D

    I do it...
    • To give me something to do.
    • To give give me something to learn.
    • To show off - mainly this.
    Also, because I played Red and Blue when I was a wee-lad.
     
    Because it is fun.

    I also like the sense of power it gives me! I CAN CONTROL THE WORLD MUAHAHAH!
     
    Why do people hack???

    well, actually I'm still working on my own hack right now, but its not posted here on PC... I don't know why?!!

    I hack because I can freely control the events in the game... Make new Pokemon, Characters, and others...

    It really makes me happy when I accomplish something in my hack, and I wonder how it feels to finish your own game/hack...

    so, basically that's why I hack!!! :D

    hm...mainly because i enjoy it
    that, and i don't feel like writing my own dang engine :P
    bleh, that would take ages for one person to make >_<
    but now that i have gtk...hm...:idea lightbulb: :D
    plus, its a challenge.
     
    I do it for the story I can create with the Firered Engine. Seriously, when I play a hack, Im not playing it for 'The most beautiful maps ever created', Im playing purely for the story. I wanna be able to dive into the game and feel apart of its unique world.

    Which leads me to why I hack, to tell an amazing story that other people may enjoy in the world of pokemon.
     
    It's nothing more than an easy way to kill time when I'm bored.
     
    I do it because I've always been an artist at heart, but had no real skill. This (mapping) is as close to painting as I can get.
     
    Why do I love hacking you ask?

    1. I love computers and programming!
    2. It's challenging!
    3. There are endless problems to solve!
    4. You can be as creative as you want!
    5. Pokemon is sweet!
    6 There aren't many who DO hack!
     
    I edit roms because I feel that the pokemon center, mart, and gym in fortree city are out of place XD

    I try to hack/mod because...
    ...I think they're fun. :3
    ...it's kinda related to programming. =/
    ...I can finally make a PKMN game that I dreamed when I was young. :3
    ...I can share it with other people. :3
    ...it kills most of my spare time instead of boring myself to death. xD
    ...it gives me headaches when scripting. :3
    ...it's a form of art and I love art. :3
    ...I love POKéMON. :3
    ...I found this site and the tools and now got addicted to ROM Hacking and I can no longer escape this addiction... D:

    And I guess that's all of it. ^^
