Braille, useful for the blind but not so useful in a Pokemon game.

What was the point of this in a Pokemon game?

No little kid or for that matter almost nobody is gonna understand braille and how to read it, I don't see a reason for doing this but ehh, it means I have an reason to go on the Internet.

What are your opinions about it being in a Pokemon game? Are you glad it never got into any future Pokemon games?

it means I have an reason to go on the Internet.

These games came out in 2002-2005. an era where having access to the Internet wasn't nearly as available as it is today. Most people were still on dial-up connection until 2005.

There is a guide to the braille in the guidebook which comes with all Generation III games. It's not difficult at all.

I liked it personally, but I can see why people feel it was random and unnecessary but cryptic messages in games have always caught my attention. The Regis were supposedly locked away, their power too much for humans to control. The fact they're locked in via puzzles and braille amazes me.

I agree with bewbs, it was extremely interesting when I came across it in the game. Deciphering the code was an extremely difficult challenge without checking on the internet.

I don't think I knew about it before seeing it on the internet, so once I knew about it I didn't really think to try and figure out the solution myself haha. Even so, I really liked the inclusion of Braille because it was something unexpected and hadn't been done before, and it made me want to figure it out, even if I was only just looking up how to do it lol.

11 year old me, having just gotten accepted into Grammar School then deciphering Braille to unlock these secret pokémon? Felt like an absolute badass.

I still like it though, adds a complex puzzle that is solved by something other than how good you are with a Mach Bike (took me 2 hours to get up to Rayquaza, often still takes me about 10 minutes). Plus the idea that literally nobody apart from my character and an explorer in the desert who suspects ruins are nearby has any clue about them makes it even cooler. Then you find the Pyramid King is the only other who's ever seen them and feel even more of an absolute boss xD

I still remember trying to decode the Braille in Regice's chamber in Ruby when the door opened on its own XD It was a good thing it did, too--either the Braille sheet I printed out didn't have the correct corresponding letters or dots, or I was reading them wrong, haha.

Anyway, I liked this addition to the games; made it challenging if you didn't know Braille or couldn't access a decoder. Looking forward to seeing them in ORAS--and if the puzzles will be any different than in RS/E--and would love to see them in future games as well, if possible :>

It was so coooool. Like omg I loved this bit for real though.
It definitely made it more interesting, and it really brought out the "relic" side of Hoenn. I honestly wish the included a lot more of it, but oh well. What they had was great, and figuring out the puzzles was a ton of fun. I especially love that the impression that the Regis communicated with the ancient people with the braille.

    My first thought:
    "Wow this is so cool"

    My second thought:
    "so...what is this?"

It I had no idea what the dots were, I didnt even know what the Braille is, it took me a loong time before I figured it all out.

The first time I played through Ruby, I had to use the strategy guide to know what the encryptions said, but after that I would know what to do. I looked stuff on it up again when it came up in FRLG when you had to use it in the Sevii Islands. This is something that would NOT be enjoyable for children to figure out.

I had literally no clue what the braille meant, so I just looked up the solutions online. I mean, I was only a kid, so the fact that there was a direct translation to the full alphabet in there didn't come to mind.
It was so awesome walking out of those caves with Regirock, Regice and Registeel, though.

Pretty much this. Even after i figured out what Braille is, i just looked for what i actually needed to do instead of deciphering.
