I recently got a 3DS and was wondering which of those two(or 4 technically) I should get. I've played all of the previous generations but just recently got the means to play 6th gen pokemon games. I should add that I skimmed through the 6th gen pokemon when X/Y came out and wasn't a huge fan. On the other hand, 3rd gen was my least favorite gen that i've played(i know,i'm terrible). I'm still really excited to play 6th gen games though. Based on that information, which should I buy?

I don't believe it matters on which title we go with timeline-wise, but personally, if I were you, I'd select XY, as they give us more of an explanation to certain features we see leading into ORAS, such as mega-evolution. I hope I made some sense!

Each of them have it's own pros and cons.

While XY have player customization, it doesn't have much postgame content as ORAS
While ORAS lacks in player customization, it does have lots of mega mons to offer and interesting delta episode as it postgame content which is more awesome than looker postgame in ORAS

For now, I may stick with XY until I get better rating for ORAS (So far tried the special demo and I need more depth checking)

You better start with XY it explains anything about Mega Evolution and what's more lacking in XY is how easy the elite four and gym leaders you can barely beat them with your eyes closed and traveling trainers are tough to beat, the league itself was a cakewalk.

On the whole I'd tend towards OR/AS, due to all the improvements it made of X/Y, but like Blue Yveltal said, both sets of games have things the other set lacks. X/Y has the player customization, the PR videos, etc, while OR/AS has prettier graphics, more megas, and Hoenn. So it's tough to rank them definitively for me.

The others covered the basics, but yes as they said the two 6th Gen paired games both have their flaws and their benefits such as X/Y having customization and not much postgame, and OR/AS having tons of Legendary Pokemon to catch and also DexNav to find special Pokemon (and it's a godsend if you are a competitive player since you can find hidden abilities, guaranteed perfect IVs and egg moves).

I mostly would play X/Y first so you can get used to new mechanics although if you want a challenge, make sure you don't leave the Exp. Share on too much (it can be toggled on or off in the Key Items menu) or you'll find yourself overleveled and wrecking the Gyms and Elite Four with little or no effort. OR/AS has the same Exp. Share mechanic but there is slightly more challenge but still I'd recommend playing X/Y first and then OR/AS.

I'm going X/Y here. There are plenty of previous generation Pokémon to pick from if you decide you don't like the Kalos Pokémon and you can explore a brand new region instead of one you've already done. I do recommend picking up OR/AS if you can, but go with X/Y first.

Go with XY first. Definitely still play ORAS in the future, but XY will provide you with a good foundation for knowing how Gen 6 works. It also has a fantastic story with a bunch of new Pokemon. You may not be impressed on the first glance, but if you gave them a chance, you'll find that they're all really lovable.

You can't go wrong with any of the starters. Get a Fletchling, and a Vivillon. I could go on and on. I have nothing negative to say about any of these.

    Good luck!

What you want is in your perspective. You should think about which game do really want. Don't think about regretting your decision later, it is only so because you overthink about it.

To me, I see XY as a "have it your way" style game, because of how many Pokémon are present and being able to customize your character, and that's part of what I really like it for. ORAS does have things to enjoy as well, but I still prefer XY. If you like being able to play the way you want to, then they're my preferred pick.
