6th Gen X/Y Quick Q&A (Read First Post)

What would be the best nature for charizard Y? Looking at specialising in special attack and speed?

I have perfect iv charmander (6 across the board) but their natures are hardy, bashful, quirky and serious.

Any tips for a breeding novice?

Either would be fine, really, since none of these natures actually make changes to your stats. If you could though, try going with Timid or Modest. They respectively give boost to your Speed and Special Attack while sacrificing a bit of your Attack stat. :p

How effective are natures? I have timid and modest charmanders, but they only have near perfect iv.

Natures add 10% to the boosted stat and take away 10% from the reduced stat, so they do a lot more than a couple of IVs. I would use the near perfect Charmanders.

Where did a couple misconceptions come from?

1) Why does everyone keep saying you can't trade pokemon with HM moves on the GTS? I just got a Rayquaza that someone used as an HM slave and it had Surf, Waterfall and Fly. Tons of people (on these boards and others) have said repeatedly that you can't trade pokemon with HM moves in order to prevent the player from gaining access to parts of the game earlier than they are supposed to which I always thought made perfect sense until I started getting pokemon with HM moves. I am only past the first gym and can't use any of the HM moves I got besides Cut until I get another badge that allows use of that move, so how did the misconception that you can't trade pokemon with HM moves AT ALL on the GTS come from? Nothing has stopped me from trading them on the GTS or on Wonder Trade UNLESS they were actively in my party. Once they are in the PC none of them are blocked from being traded.

2) You can't breed pokemon with their parents. Where did this misconception come from? Did older games prevent it from happening or what? Because I have routinely been breeding pokemon with their parents, sibilings, children, there's never been any restriction so where did this story come from as well? Was it just presumed or was it an actual restriction in older games?

I never heard of any of those!

Can someone recommended a good Medic Pokémon outside of Chansey?

I like Audino because both it's Defenses are decent, not just Sp Def like Chansey/Blissey as well as it can learn a good draining move (draining kiss) so it can help marginally when battling while at the same time healing itself. Plus it can also have Healer ability if you don't want to use a move slot on it for Heal Bell

Vaporeon is my favourite. It has incredible Defense and HP, and pretty good Special Defense too. It's a good Wish supporter, and can learn Heal Bell, although I prefer to use Roar instead.

I haven't heard of either of those. I don't think you can send Pokemon with HM moves when transferring between generations (i.e. Pal Park etc), and you couldn't trade Pokemon with HM moves via infrared in Gen V, so maybe that's where it came from? As for breeding Pokemon with their parents, that has always been possible. I guess that rumour started because it just seems wrong from a moral perspective :P

Does anyone else's have a wobbly charizard?

When ever I send out charizard as my first, he wobbles from side to side making some little noise as well.

Doesn't do it when sent out mid battle, and no other mon does it, so why does my charizard wobble!?!

does it have max/almost-max hearts in Amie?
if yes, then that's just your Charizard getting excited for the battle.

I've never heard people say the first thing. It might be because they're assuming that the GTS would act like the transfer systems where you can't transfer pokes with HMs. It could also habe something to do with the fact that in Gen 5, you didn't need a certain badge to use a certain HM move outside of battle:
Bulbapedia said:
This generation marks the first time that HM moves do not require Gym Badges for use outside of battle. Although most HM moves cannot be obtained before earning certain Gym Badges, if the player obtains a Pokémon that has learned an HM move through other means (via level-up, trading, etc.) the player will be able to use the HM in the field without restrictions.
Maybe you couldn't trade Pokemon with HM moves on the GTS in Gen 5? I don't remember.

And I THINK that it was impossible to breed Pokemon with their parents in Gen 2, but I'm not entirely sure about it. But since then, breding with parents was never a problem.

I can only assume the idea of not allowing HM move pokemon in your party to be traded away is so you can't get trapped?

I.E. you go into a cave with no dig / teleport / escape rope and you go over some water, then you WonderTrade your Lapras (for example) and you no longer have the ability to surf! Now you're stuck unless you can wipe out against wild pokemon, but if your team is substantially stronger that'll take forever!

Timid, Modest, Mild or Hasty. The neutral natures, Hardy, Bashful, Serious, Quirky and Docile don't do anything for the Pokemon's stats.

That is a possibilty, but I've always wondered "who would be stupid enough to do that?".

But Game Freak has, as far as I know, never given us a reason for why pokes with HM moves can't be transferred or WT'd.

1) Possibly because you can't take a pokemon with a hm out of your party when you're not at a PC. So someone might have tried to trade a pokemon from their party and got the message saying they can't be removed. Pokemon has never been clear on all the details.

2) I never heard of that, in fact all i've heard about it is that it's actually good

Two questions:
Where, how or who can I get a 6IV (Preferably not English) Ditto from and what is expected in return for it?

Poping by the trading thread hoping to find a good trade, but they are asking for Pokemon in certain balls and female that I have never heard of. Love ball for example, why?

1. Best bet is the trade forum here. A lot of people are offering them. I don't think they're asking for too much, because it's usually a simple clone job.

2. In Heart Gold and Soul Silver those balls can be acquired from Kurt, and if transported through Bank, you can get females in rare balls to breed down onto other Pokemon.

Items cannot be transferred through PokéBank, apparently. :( These type of balls cannot be held either, unfortunately, so if you'd like to have a Pokémon in Love Ball, the only option for you is to capture it with them in HG/SS then send them over to BW/BW2, and eventually to X/Y.

Oh sorry, that's what I meant haha, thanks for clarifying.

Do note that if a Lv. 1 Pokemon has 6 in all its stats, it doesn't mean that it has perfect IVs. IVs are hidden and can only be calculated for a higher level Pokemon. For a Lv. 1 Pokemon, go to the stats judge in the Pokemon Center in Kiloude City and check there. Use this infographic to interpret his evaluation. Feel free to message me if you have any questions :)

Also, here is the natures table for reference.
