Uh, we've had 5 male champions (Blue, Lance, Steven, Wallace, and Alder) and 3 female ones (Cynthia, Iris, and Diantha interestingly both the latter's names are related to flowers at least in english (I think their Japanse names have similar meanings as their english ones). Zinnia's name is also a flower name in english. We've already had two Dragon champions though...actually the past two Gens have ended with Dragon champions) We've only had two female champions in a row (discounting remakes) as Alder is between Cynthia and Iris. In other words we can handle 3 more female champions before you can say that.

How many of those male champion are in active duty ?
Alder retired , Blue became a gym-leader , Steven quit to collect stone So there are only 2 active male champion in 5 Elite group (since Kento & Jotho share one Elite group).

I doubt it, as usually in the games it's either Gym Leaders or a member of the Elite Four that become champion if the same Elite Four is revisited in the same generation. Alain isn't even confirmed to be in the game, and if he is there's no guarantee he'll be the same person as he is in the anime. I don't need to bring up how different the same person can be spread across different mediums *cough*sabrina*cough*.

It would be cool though if he was a rival. My knowledge of the recent anime is very lacking to say the least but I have heard he's taking a more... antagonistic route. To date we've never had an outright villain as a rival unless you count Silver, and he snaps out of it by the end. Though of course we've never had a villain as a Champion either... not counting N.

Except Steven does make a reference to Alain in ORAS as the Boy with a Black Charizard that helped him.

But Aren't we already had enough Female champion ?
Gen 1 & 2:
Blue ♂ "The Demoted One"
Red ♂ "The Silent One"
Lance ♂ "Dragon Master"
Gen 3:
Steven Stone ♂ "P. Rockhard"
Wallace ♂ "Agent Peacock"
Gen 4:
Cynthia ♀ "The Mythologist"
Gen 5:
Alder ♂ "The Free Spirit"
Iris ♀ "The Girl Who Knows the Hearts of Dragons"
Gen 6:
Diantha ♀ "The Actor"
6♂:3♀
in conclusion, the gender ratio's off. another 3 females balances it & rounds up to a good number

Except Steven does make a reference to Alain in ORAS as the Boy with a Black Charizard that helped him.

Namely Lance, Wallace, Cynthia, Iris, Diantha.

But let's not forget that BW/B2W2 takes place after the events of Gen IV games and seeing Cynthia making appearance in BW/B2W2 doesn't make her active; her explicit mention on Distortion World kind of hints Lucas OR Dawn succeeding her position, otherwise I don't believe Cynthia's going to have a vacation in the Unova region for at least 6 months in a year! {XD} That would make her an irresponsible Champion, which doesn't really fit her character. :)

Therefore, it's perfectly fine if we get one more female champion in 'Z version'.
If you count the all Gym Leaders, Elite Fours, Champions together, I believe there are still more male characters with major roles in the Pokemon world. Just look at the leaders of each local crime syndicates, they are all men.

I was surprised that Korrina didn't take part in fighting Team Flare, to be honest... maybe Korrina and Diantha will play larger roles like that in the next game? I hope that they at least do something different with Diantha... IIRC, Cynthia was in a similar situation in D/P, but then got an expanded role in Platinum(other than her team being a complete beast).

Random thought, that'd be awesome if Zinnia comes back as a Dragon-type Gym Leader for Kalos. From what I remember, her team in ORAS was pretty decent enough for a Gym battle.

I completely agree on the topic of Diantha. She's a major character, as she holds the title of Kalos Champion, so it doesn't seem right to not see her utilized much. It'd be nice to see this changed in their next installment.

You kind of have a point there on the active ones...except that replacing Diantha with Alain or another guy would upset it to 3 males and 2 females (discounting if Cynthia and Wallace/Stevn are still champions (Steven called himself the Hoenn champ in HgSs and OrAs implies he only was taking a break off his duties to find himself. He also compares the main character to their fellow Johtian the RSE player, but those are different universes so...).
A girl replacing a girl would keep it 3 F and 2 M and bring the overall number ever up to 4 F versus 5 M.

Helped him do what? I regret to say I've never actually played ORAS, so I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to. Would be a neat reference, though it is important to note that in Pokemon Origins Red did have a Charizard, and it Mega Evolved into Mega Charizard X, which is black. And there's also shiny Charizard which is black as pitch (wait has that ever been done before? A significant character in the games with a shiny Pokemon?)... It is rare but it's also not entirely exclusive to one character, and while Red isn't exclusive to the anime, Alain is. It could still be a reference to someone else, possibly Red if Pokemon Origins is considered canon to the games considering this is an alternate timeline where FR/LG aren't canon.

With that buzzkill theory aside, it still would be really neat if he was a major character, be it rival or champion. It would also be really neat if they got someone besides Team Flare to be the main villains. Team Flare is just.... it's somewhere between Team Aqua/Magma and Team Galactic in terms of goals and humor, and it's really just meh. If they did decide to just summon forth Perfect Zygarde it would be really boring. We don't even have a plausible reason for Lysandre wanting to end everything, and since we have no backstory on him at all (and his very own friends absolutely refuse to stop him, leaving it all to you and your friends, who at least try to help) it would be generic doomsday stuff with you inevitably saving the day, and the world being in danger in Pokemon is something that's been done over and over and over again with very little change. Though it would be neat if they took a route where there really aren't any villains. We've never had a game where legendary Pokemon just went on a rampage. Imagine if Xerneas and Yveltal just woke up and duked it out.... and you had to help Zygarde stop them. That would actually be pretty unique.

I'm pretty sure Steven is indeed talking about Alain. The exact quote he says in the Delta Episode is:
Hm… You know, seeing that white beauty there that you travel with… I'm reminded of the Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza, said to descend at the Sky Pillar. I once had a chance to see it face to face. Although, it was a long time ago now… The young man who battled against Rayquaza beside me… I wonder whatever happened to him and that black Charizard of his… Well, regardless–you must go to the Sky Pillar and see what waits for you there. I don't know what you'll find. Be careful.

That line is only triggered if you have the shiny event Beldum that was given out the day ORAS was released. Steven uses a shiny Metagross in the Mega Evolution specials and Alain does face Mega Rayquaza together with him. It is a little odd that a main series game would reference the anime when they tend to not reference any of the other Pokemon mediums with a couple of rare exceptions.

Does it mean that Alain is going to appear in the next main series game? idk

I am starting to get depressed about next week's announcement as I got hyped for another series this week yet it doesn't seem to have revealed much and now we're left waiting for the trailer...I rather keep my hopes down with Pokémon Z before having two let downs in a row :(.

While another Dragon Champion would be cool, I think Korrina could be a good champion, a fighting type battle would be cool. Although, I'm surprised no one has suggested this:

What if Essentia was the Champion?

She has her super suit, unique background, was the only part of a postgame story in which she works with Team Flare but then redeems herself, and she worked with and was brought up by Looker. She is also the only one to bring up that your the champion of Kalos based on what Looker says. Plus they could do a post game story focusing on her rise to fame and tie in Looker's disappearance. Perhaps a new threat arises post game, Looker returns to Kalos, learns of Essentia's new role, and teams up with you, her, and others to stop this threat. But in the end something happens, and Looker ends up in the ocean and drifts all the way to Hoenn.

Ah I see! Well in that case it likely is him then. Though that kinda makes things weird, because that might mean the specials are canon... and since the specials are canon to the anime... that means the anime is canon...? What.

At first I was opposed to the idea of Ash Greninja being available in the games, but then I think it's a possibility of it happening as an event Pokemon once Ash receives it in the anime.

That brings us back to Ash Greninja...will that be canon in the new game(s)?

Methinks it's going to be a 'new' feature for the final evos of our starters, or maybe a feature only exclusive to the Kalos starters. Since Ash-Greninja looks like Ash, or at least has resemblance to what Ash is wearing, our starters in Z (or whatever the third game will be called) will also be getting this feature, 'evolving' or 'transforming' to look like us with temporary increased stats only during battle, like Mega Evolution. And if that were to happen, it's going to be interesting, since we can change our outfits. :3

Honestly, I'd love to see Alain play a major role in the next game. Mainly because he has been such an important character at the Mega Evolution episodes. What troubles me is the fact that we have only seen his Mega Charizard being used. That means he might be seriously involved at the later part of the story and that his team (if he's an e4 member) should be based around Charizard X, or Fire/Dragon themed, for which we have members in the elite 4 specializing in both types. So, to what extent could Alain be involved in the next games?

Also, back to the Greninja topic, since we have no official or leaked news about it, I am starting to guess that Gamefreak will try to implement it and see if it works as a new Pokemon feature. If the Greninja project is embraced by the Pokemon viewers, players and fans, then it might be introduced for many more Pokemon (maybe not only in their fully evolved forms). But I also like the idea of it being a rarer form. Not like a shiny, not that rare, maybe at half the odds rare. I'm waiting to see the episode to clarify things up, if an official announcement is set to take place later in time.

Mega Zoroark Dark/Poison confirmed?

That would be so funny if they announced next week that the game is going to be released worldwide in December next month, in time for Christmas. Highly unlikely since we would have heard something by now. I would be one happy nerd if that happened though, in that I would have gotten a double-whammy with "Z" and then The Force Awakens coming out on the 15th of next month.

If so then...(From Bulbapedia's RG Trivia section)- "The games were originally scheduled for a December 21, 1995 release, according to an old Nintendo of Japan flyer.[6] This could explain the copyright year of 1995 that appears in the games' introductory sequence, and all subsequent games and official merchandise." As you can see the 21st of December would be the most ideal date if they were to pull that off.

Of course, Joe is the bearer of disappointing news:

Apparently that's what it says in the episode description on the TV Tokyo website. Being stubborn, I'm going to hold on to the hope that he may just surprise us still. But to be honest, I'm starting to get a little infuriated even though I shouldn't be. We may end up waiting until January or February to hear something, that's around the time that Zoroark was first revealed with a silhouette.
