Yahoo! to become "Altaba" if bought out by Verizon

Looks like Verizon is on its way to closing another acquisition with another large ".com" company, this time being Yahoo! Back in 2015, Verizon also acquired AOL and its properties, although those still continue to operate as subsidiaries.

So, what's your take on this news?

Yahoo! was a big company back in the 90s, so there's a bit of nostalgia to the name as a whole.

I don't use Yahoo! either, but from a business standpoint I don't see how this could help them because people will be confused over the new name for sure.

True. The new name is kinda weird and abstract. I just wonder why they decided to buy it and/or change the name.

Personally, I like Yahoo!'s name just as it is, so I hope Verizon wouldn't change it to other name. Besides, the name of Yahoo! is already iconic in itself because it's already been here in internet for quite a long time.

If it does go through, they really should keep the name as Yahoo! I mean I really don't see why they'd want to change it in the first place especially considering the history behind it.

It will be quite strange seeing Yahoo! operating under a different name for sure. Haven't used it in years myself but I will watch to see how this pans out.

Yahoo hasn't been doing that well so maybe they think a new name will give it more life or something. Maybe the brand is cursed and no one wants to invest in anything named "Yahoo" anymore.

I'd be more concerned what Verizon has planned for tumblr's fate if they buy out Yahoo!. Yahoo! currently owns/runs tumblr as far as I know, so I hope Verizon wants to keep tumblr around. One of my main sources of entertainment, lol.

I really don't see much going on with tumblr unless Verizon were to treat Yahoo! and its subsidiaries differently than how they handled AOL and its subsidiaries.

Just like how people still have @hotmail.com and @live.com email addresses through Microsoft, I don't see why @yahoo.com addresses would go away.

I've always been a Google user since I first got internet in my house 12 years ago, so this doesn't bother me. The name change is rather bothersome though since "Yahoo" is a rather iconic name at this point.
