I've just finished the 8th gym, and...I would have to agree with the change of the low encounter rate. Some pokemon that are actually good are just...too rare to make it exceedingly time-consuming to hunt (same goes for starters). Also, having an egg move tutor available during the main story...

The new version still doesn't work on MGBA for some reason, even though I applied the patch to the correct Fire Red rom. Still won't reach the title screen.

Try different roms and/or play without a BIOS. Not sure if it helps, but who knows. I tried the Squirrels ROM, still the same problem. The Delta Emerald hack works fine though.

Just to further expand my point about mega evolutions happening automatically in double battles...I noticed that this mainly occurs if the pokemon holding a mega stone is in the second slot of the party during battle. Once again I do not know if this is a bug, or this is how it worked in oras...
