View Full Version : Life before and after you found PC

A pretty simple question, but do you recall what your life was like before you came upon PokéCommunity? Now, I don't only mean how you spent your spare time before joining the forum, but how has being on this forum impacted your life now compared to when you weren't part of the expansive member base we have currently. Was your life miserable, did you find yourself bored most of the time, or perhaps you were elsewhere on another forum or living a more public and social life outside the computer screen? Or for example, perhaps it even opened you up to newer interests or newly grown skills you never thought you'd find yourself doing. Do you remember what your life was like before you met certain people here who you've grown to connect with and feel like your life is now apart of their life? What has mostly changed since you found PC and how has it impacted you offline and online?

A ton of questions piled together, but really all expressing the same message. What was your life before PC and how has the forum and the people impacted your life now?

I was less social. I was less intelligent. I was a very isolated child. I knew nothing about the internet or people in general. I would probably not have developed as well as I did with the experience and knowledge PC has given me.

I was a crazy stupid self-centered arrogant child who vehemently disliked most aspects of herself.

PC has been my introduction to the world, basically.

Now I'm outgoing and relaxed and cheerful and I like other people and myself. :3

Life before PC.. I was more social, more trusting and less addicted to the computer.

lol pc u bin grate for me. Honestly though, my life before PC is almost unimportant in my eyes now. It really doesn't matter what I did. I joined PC in my freshman year of high school and I think PC got me through high school. Even though I was banned from the forums for a good two years. A lot of things have changed in my life since I joined PC and it honestly doesn't matter to me what my life was pre-PC cause it wasn't all that interesting. I mean, how interesting is a 13-year old's (or younger) life? I just played a lot of Pokemon lol. Hence my joining.

Ohh... Life before I went on PC (or forums) was less exciting. I barely went on the computer during those times... Plus once I came to PC ever since I go on MSN a whole lot and Skype more. PC has changed my online life a whole lot.

Before: I was a retarded kid who liked pokemon.
After: Now I'm a teenager with some actual knowledge and a changed perspective who still likes pokemon.

I was never on the computer until I discovered forums. Now I take my laptop wherever I go. Cause of PC I learnt how to write fanfic and make GFX. Before that I just played all the time on my DS. I didn't really have an online life before PC, now I have all sorts of friends from forum roaming. Let's just say my life totally changed when I was 13

No difference, really. The only major contribution I had for this forum was $15, but it's only a tiny fraction of my wallet. I plan on donating more soon.

PC let me talk to some people who I wouldn't ever have had the chance to and talk about things I wouldn't have been comfortable talking about with anyone I know in real life. So PC has been my confessional and I feel less burdened overall because of it.

It's hard for me to really recall what my life was pre-PC. It consisted of doing homework, watching TV, rarely seeing friends, and being bored most of the time. After I started actively posting here back in 2008 I truly became who I am today. My grammar drastically improved, my ability to socialize skyrocketed, I met some of the most amazing friends I could ever ask for, and I got a chance to see what a managerial position is like. It changed my personality a good deal too. For the first time I learned what it was like to be a part of a community that actually noticed if you didn't log on one day... I was a lonely child and the impact one person could truly have on others. If nothing else, it has been a stepping stone for me in my life. I'm so grateful that I found this place, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Not only that, but I've learned so many little things that I use all the time. The old tutorials on PC really taught me the first things about Photoshop, which I use for school and the like. PC first got me interested in programming, prompting me to take courses in high school. I've learned about, got, and enjoyed many video games, and countless songs through this community as well. :]

PC has introduced me to some really great people and some that I'd like to forget. PC hasn't changed my life, but it's certainly introduced me to some of the best friends I've ever had. It's given me the opportunity to say things I would've never had the opportunity to say in real life, plus talk openly and calmly about issues that would never be brought up in my group of friends irl.
PC hasn't made me more of a sociable person, if anything, it's made me less sociable. But I don't think I would've been much more sociable had I never discovered PC, anyway. I'm more or less a boring person, just going by day to day, watching movies, watching tv. If I didn't have PC, I'd still be doing that, but I'd probably do some homework for once, lol.
But basically, I came here for ShinyGold and now I'm here providing you all with sarcastic commentary about everything, hurrah.

PC really hasn't changed my life at all tbh. Or had a lasting impact on it. It's too me another social hub, sure I have relationships with people here, but nothing that changed the course of my life. I'd say internet communities as a whole let me see other people from a different perspective from my own, and let me more open minded about other people stances and what not.

I was a bit of a jerk before I found PC and after that, I don't feel as much of a jerk anymore because of the new friends I made.

Well before PC i'd only had an internet connection for about three or four months so i was just wandering around seeing what the internet had to offer. But before i joined PC i was very pessimistic and constantly bored. Then after joining here and posting around for a bit and growing out of my nubiness i started making friends who instantly cured my excessive boredom and over time i became a more positive person.

I was less addicted to the computer before I joined PC, and I hung out with my friends more often. D: After I joined PC I got a teenie weenie bit better at computers and stuff... that is all. o.o

PC is what made me choose to switch my major to journalism.
I met a lot of really cool people here who became great friends!
I lost most of my social life for about two years while my addiction grew.

Coming to PC has made me learn more about Pokemon and discussing with real Pokefans like myself.

It's like a Trainer Tip every time!

It hasn't really changed anything. Then again, I haven't been here for very long. But I've already learned a lot from BMGf, so I don't expect this forum to teach me anything new.

No real lasting changes have affected me from PC. Just something to fill the spaces with I guess.

September 24th, 2011, 8:07 AM
Not much of a change, just got into anime more than before. That's about it.

September 29th, 2011, 9:29 AM
sometimes i think that i wasted time here wanting to be modded. i only made 4000 thousand posts. by only i mean that's a lot of posts, a lot of which i spent a lot of time writing... but i spent so much more time lurking the forum. time i could have been studying/honing my musical instrument skills/talking to friends irl. friends who matter. pc played an important role when i was thirteen/fourteen. it served as a channel of escapism. but that's over - i'm a social academic brilliant success irl. i don't fit into pc's average demography

I guess because I was part of PC in the good ol' days, then had an elongated absence, then came back a few months ago, I'm not entirely sure how to answer this question, but I'll give it a go anyway

PC Round 1

Ask anyone of my offline friends and they'll tell you have I have the worst long-term memory of anyone they know. I barely remember large chunks of secondary school without severe prompting, and I've virtually forgotten all of primary school. As such, I really can't remember not only what life was like before PC, but most of my time in the one-and-a-half years I was actually an active member at PC. Suffice to say, I spent waaaaaaaaaay too much time on PC and my social life suffered drastically as a result. I must have had some happiness from being on PC all those years ago, or I wouldn't have been around for son long or have become staff the first time or anything. But, unfortunately, the truth is that I really can't remember. Sorry, kids!

PC Round 2

In the intervening period between then and now, I became a lot more sociable and a more well-rounded person. In hind sight, leaving PC was probably one of the best things to happen to me. Coming back all these years later on a wave of nostalgia - and becoming staff again, most of all - hasn't changed my life all that much, to be honest. However, that I can have a nice balance between here and real life obligations is a personal achievement in and of itself - baby steps if you will.

Eh.. It hasn't changed my life enormously... Sure, I've met a load of people I'm really close to and I value as a part of my life very much - It's made me smarter, and made me use correct grammar wen befor i spoke lik this and it was realy dum.

I think for a while I had less of a social life because I was actually an active member :x But otherwise no, no major effect of my life.

(I can't remember my life before it. I was probably bored more.)

Life before PC was pretty lonely because I was pretty unsociable and I always stayed in my room a lot, not really talking to my parents nor my sibling and compared to how it is now, it's a lot more busy and I've been able to become more sociable with people I don't know, plus getting into things more such as graphics and anime was another thing that happened once I found PC.

Before: Dumbass who had no social life
After: Got upgraded to a dumbass with somewhat of a social life

Well, I've been on forums since 2009 starting off with Serebiiforums but ignoring that, hm. I'd say PC has definitely changed my life; I spend a fair amount of time on here and I check in pretty regularly to see if people have contacted me and all that. I've made a fair few friends here too so far, and imo any friend you make is an important change to your life. I wouldn't say, though, that it has become my life. Basically if I have free time and I'm on the internet, I'm probably on PokéCommunity or talking to people from PokéCommunity over Msn. In another window I'll probably be Skyping offline friends or texting them, or whatever. When I'm not on PC I'm probably being social offline instead, playing in sports matches or just seeing friends and all that. I'd say it hasn't taken over my life as much as it has added another dimension to it which I absolutely love and now can't imagine my life without!

I guess I might as well as talk about how my life's changed as a result of being on other forums too. While PC has had a strong impact on my life, it's simply nothing compared to the impact which SPPf had, mainly because it was there that I really discovered the concept of having an online social life and all that. I also met one of the best friends I've ever had and probably ever will have there, and I've had him help me with so many big issues in my life it's unreal so in that way it's really made a gigantic impact on my offline life as well as my online life.

Life before PC? Haha.. I'm like... wait, I feel like I'm an outcast in school, actually. Haven't been really concentrating in school much, and wasn't interested in any hobbies whatsoever. Not particularly friendless, but.. With my social skills (which were all time low).. I guess you could call it that.

When I joined PC? I'm lesser of an outcast, but hey. I don't care. I'm not into GG. >.> I finally have great friends, and a lot of them. :) I've also improved in my social skills, actually. I learned many things, preferably grammar, word count.. etc. etc. I've gotten better in school, and somehow.. It's because of PC and my friends here.

Mainly, PC's been helping me increase my social skills, and that left a big impact on my life.
