  • Update #7 -Legend Badge-

That was quite peaceful segment. I caught some new team members and trained them up a bit. I got lucky with some crits from Octillery, so the Dragon Gym wasn't much of a problem. Too bad I have to box it so soon. However I have my eyes set on some new team members already.

I like how the ruleset makes me use Pokemon that usually appear very late and I rarely get to train them otherwise.

  • Variety of horrors - For the next segment, you may not catch any Pokémon who shares a type with one that is already in your team.
I wasn't sure if this was referring to my team at the time of gaining this rule or at the time of trying to catch a Pokemon. I played as though it was the former because the latter has the easy exploit of just placing a Pokemon in my PC to catch a Pokemon of the same type. Overall it stopped me from just catching a bunch of ground type Pokemon for the electric gym because I already had Spungus the Marshtomp.

    Gym 3 Defeated
Since this rom uses the modern Exp. Share, I deposited Spungus the Marshtomp straight away he wouldn't accidently go past the level cap; I really needed him for the Magneton. I also deposited Queen the Vespiquen and Bugger the Butterfree because I knew they'd be useless and I'd need more slots.

SIMBA the Litleo carried my team as far as regular battles go, but wasn't a lot of help for the gym. Magneto the Alolan Graveler and Stumped the Phantump beat everyone in the gym except for Magneton which I withdrew Spungus for. Funny side note about Magneto: I caught him at lvl 11 then immediately found more Alolan Geodudes at lvl 17-19, but I decided not to catch them because of the new rule, maybe should have scouted a bit more.

Odd team - All Pokémon in your odd team slots gain 5 more levels for their level limit and all Pokémon in your even team slots lose 5 levels from their level limit.

  • Update #8 -Wave Badge-

Oh dang, I had no idea how many pokemon are shorter than 2m. I'm lucky snake-like pokemon are measured by length or I'd probably have to go with solo Jellicent.

The available choices were still very good, so the Water gym wasn't much of a problem. The next and last segment is a bit scary though with all the story stuff and E4. I wonder how the new rule is gonna mess with my plans :P

Clay was difficult. I needed a lot of grinding up and a couple new team members to succeed, but finally I managed to get a nice team and get the badge. I caught some new Pokémon, but due to the now reduced level limit and the rule I received, I hardly needed their help at all. In fact, while the game was still getting more difficult, it still happened to be rather forgiving, thanks to some nice Hidden Grotto encounters and repeatable trainer battles.

Heracross was especially useful here, but so were Gothitelle and Blastoise. I didn't want to go in with their unevolved forms, and that choice paid off! And while Blastoise is already getting close to the level cap, Gothitelle is still usable for a bit. Same goes with Eviolite Roselia, who still helped out against Clay's Seismitoad. The next Gym battle will be much more interesting though~

    My team right now is...

at the time the odds +5 and evens -5 was applied, that gave dustox and shroomish +5 and taillow and mudkip/marshtomp -5. bittersweet tbh bc that gives me shroomish/breloom for longer, but i was gonna ditch dustox. and i really wanted to have mudkip/marshstomp for a good while, but rip lol. taillow was going to get boxed anyway. so it's whatever tbh bc the team got a big overhaul between badges two and three. wattson wasn't too bad...i almost fucked up my marshtomp, tho. i quit training it bc the plan was to evolve it at 16 and get mud shot and just bring him to wattson's gym for back up, so i gave mudkip exp share then accidentally got caught in a battle w someone that had a full team. so it went from 15 to 17, making it miss mud shot...i had saved a bit before so i took the loss and reset. it was worth it bc i needed it to take out magneton. just awaiting our next set of rules before making our way to flannery's gym.

  • Badges #5 and #6 obtained!!

omg... this was a rough segment. the 10 level limit + my rolled rule saying any Pokémon that evolves loses 5 levels from the limit was tough enough, but the fact that I could only catch the very first mons I found in a new area added to the difficulty. my first encounters in new areas were:

    1) Rattata #1 - accidentally fainted
    2) Rattata #2 - accidentally fainted
    3) Magikarp - accidentally fainted with a crit!!
    4) Koffing - captured

I couldn't do much with Koffing since it was only lv. 14 when I obtained it, meaning the max it could go to was 24. I didn't foresee it being too helpful against Chuck and Jasmine with how low-leveled it would be, plus Jasmine resists poison moves. So I ended up boxing it. The rest of my team were going to hit the level limit so they had to be boxed as well... meaning I was only left with Sudowoodo.

Lost to Chuck around 5 times thanks to Dynamicpunch doing insane damage and then me hitting myself. So I decided to level up on the remaining trainers on the way to Cianwood even if it would bring Sudowoodo closer to his level limit. :x Fearow was also at 21 so she was still eligible, and I tried using her when Sudowoodo was fainted. On the 6th attempt after training, it worked out!! yaya

Jasmine was easier than I expected. No Thunderbolts from either Magnemite and a lucky Low Kick crit took out Steelix. I have a new appreciation for Sudowoodo. Now I need to brace myself for making an all-new team.

I also caught a Krabby earlier for Surf, but it never participated in any battles at all. As soon as my eligible mons were fainted in a battle and I only had an ineligible mon left, I had to try again.

Burning Souls - Halloween Event 2020

    Sudowoodo ♂️ Lv. 38 (caught lv. 20 - max lv. 40)

    Ruleset Update!

    💀 Sheep / Badge 5 and 6:
Embargo - You may no longer use items in battle for the rest of the game.

Back to square one - All Pokémon currently on your team lose 20 levels from their level limit. (If you're left with no Pokémon or need HM moves, you're allowed to catch some in the tall grass using your current team, but they can't take part in any trainer battle).

I've added you two, Aeternum and Superjolt, to the board!
Since I was there, I updated your rules as well, Sheep! But... the Ghosts are really strong in Johto. Even when all odds are against you, though, I'm sure you still have some life left in you! The whole region is counting on you.

Welp, there goes most of my team leaving gym 3. Fortunately there are a bunch of places immediately north of gym 3 where I can do a team reset.

    Gyms 4-5 Defeated
Right away I'll say I'm very glad the rules specify that the 10 level limit only applies to Pokemon caught AFTER gym 4, because my whole gym 5 team was caught before gym 4. Otherwise I'd have to try beat the gym with just a bunch of underlevelled ground types. I found a Yamask with Will-o-wisp which would've been awesome, but alas, my level limit on ghosts is 0 now.
I used the exact same team for both gyms, but had to grind everything up between them. It took a lot of tries for both gyms because I was stubborn and didn't wanna be too high a level. I beat them both by just learning the team and swapping out to best manage my health and get off status conditions when needed (I don't think I ever would have beaten the Slaking if not for Flame Body burn with Kantonian the Rapidash.

so i had no ghost moves, meaning my entire team suffered -5 to their level limit, which knocked marshtomp out of the running. sucks bc i wanted it for at least back up in flannery's gym, but a challenge like this, you just. can't bother getting attached so it's fine. i was going to swap out a lot of them anyway, which is evident in this update. i know that i don't get a new rule for this stretch, i just like to update after every badge bc it's just. you know. a good point to do so. i imagine the team will look drastically different after gym 5, too. i would also like to note that everything on the team currently as well as in the box were caught pre 4th badge so their level limit is 20 (unless otherwise messed with in the rules) and i have a note pad i'm keeping track of stuff with lol. i don't know what i'm going to do to prepare for norman tbh, he's typically one of the more difficult leaders, but truant can easily fuck him over so i'm sure i can figure this one out. as far as this segment, this was honestly the easiest one, i think mostly in part due to the variety of pokemon available at this point in the game. this is the most rounded my team has been and likely will ever be lol.

    PART 3

After boxing Shroomish, I went to Steven and encounterd Abra, which I was lucky enough to catch. This is like 4th run I use Abra this year. Say hi to Locke. What is also great is that not only Abra, but also Kadabra and Alakazam fits "Short ghosts" rule.

My plan was to catch more Pokémon in Granite Cave, but it's not accessible until I get bike, so I had to skip catching them for now. Marstomp got pretty close to his level limit, so I decided not to use him until I can beat Wattson. So I had to use Zubat and Abra, who evolved into Kadabra and Alakazam straight away on level 16.

On my way to Wattson, I caught Kant the Voltorb and Bontar the Plusle. I played with DexNav again a little bit and ended up overleveled. Before I could get to Mauville, Marstomp got to level 24, so I boxed it until I was ready to face Wattson. I cleared the Gym with Alakazam, since I couldn't really use rest of my team, picked Marstomp back and challenged Wattson. And it was probably the fastest byttle so far. Few Mud Bombs from Marstomp and Psybeam from Alakazam later and I got another badge. And Marshtomp didn't even get that one last level, so I can use it next time for a while.

Next time I'll probably finally go back to Granite Cave and catch Sableye and Aron, then I should look for new Water-type or Ground-type.

So, I caught a lot of Pokémon (now at 2 full boxes) and trained a lot as well. There were many new areas to explore and, while most of the Pokémon were rather pointless to get (the level cap is now very low, bonus levels are almost necessary, and most of the Pokémon that I caught before the fourth badge were still holding up thanks to bonus levels and such), some were absolutely essential to beat Skyla. You could say that I made my team specifically to counter hers, and... I can totally confirm that because normal trainers with random teams proved to be much harder than expected! The Gym battle though went rather well, despite me being rather underleveled (her ace is level 49 in this hack, just so you know). I'm now ready for the next segment, which is actually going to be very long...

    My team right now is...

  • Got my second badge.

Since the last gym, I caught an abra at level 9 on the way to grinding up wingull before brawly and went ahead and taught it flash. Due to the new limitation placed on me, I had to drop combusken to the box. Brawly was a bit of a challenge since Wingull is just too weak but I didn't want to overlevel by too much in anticipation of flannery.

    Party: Wingull Level 19
    Abra Level 9

This sounds like such a fun concept. :D I'm going to play through Y and fight 'fire with fire' or rather picking Fennekin as my starter. Gonna be rather intense changing up the team a lot in the later stages of the game. :D Also as a reminder I always play on SET, so if any rules like that shows up they wouldn't affect me much.

EDIT: I beat the first gym! Wasn't too much problem with the help of Fennekin!
